Of worthy mention is the actions of this CIVILIAN JTF. *Let us recall that Boko Haram was attacking and killing these NORTHERNERS, raiding their community, kidnapping and raping their women. *Let us also recall that the "official" security forces (Police, Armed Forces, etc) are trying their best but it was NOT ENOUGH. *Then the Citizens "banded together" .......to DEFEND THEMSELVES * They got Guns and armed themselves, to DEFEND themselves. The Govt did not arrest them for trying to defend themselves or "carrying unlicensed weapons" *The Citizens were doing these so well, that the Govt decided to "Co-opt" them into a fighting force...thus the birth of the CJTF. Now, all these happened in NORTHERN Nigeria. In SOUTHERN Nigeria, we can draw a PARALLEL: *"Herdsmen" (whether we agree they are of Fulani extraction or from Libya or America!) were attacking, Killing, raping, kidnapping and destroying Southern Communities, especially in the Eastern part of Nigeria (maybe due to proximity, compared to Western Nigeria) *Civilians of SOUTHERN Nigeria were just crying and fighting each other on the Internet, pointing fingers and making unnecessary jest of each region (Igbo Vs. Yoruba). [ *The "Official" Security Forces have been unable to assist in quelling their murderous actions of these Criminal Herdsmen! Infact, they have supported then discreetly (Remember that Governor that always come out to bail them? Remember what that Police Commissioner did in Osun state recent;y?) *Civilians in the South did not come together to form a Civilian Fighting Force. *Even where they made a tepid-attempt to arm themselves, the Police hierarchy controlled by the same Northerners, quickly foiled such attempt. The above scenarios raises a few questions: - Are Northerners allowed to defend themselves against attacks while the Southerners are prevented from defending themselves? - Are our Security Forces (especially the Police and Army) under the command of their echelon, complicit in the attempt to desecrate Southern Nigeria, while protecting the North? - Are our Governors, being the "Chief Security Officers" of their State, doing anything about this? Even raising the Issues at FEC Meetings with the President? - Are our legislative Representatives |(Senators and House Of Reps members) doing anything about this on the floor of the house and coming-up with forceful positions and laws to combat these issues ......... or just going there to collect allowance and better their own pocket? - Can for example, the recently launched "Community" Defence Corps in Lagos, be trained to fulfil such role, as the Civilian JTF is doing in the North? ..... or are they just there to harass the natives/locals and extort "fines" from them? We all need to take a sit-back and reflect on these issues. BTW: I know someone from the North will come here to attempt to trash what l wrote (even claim to be from Ibadan or Awka! ) but those who are affected by the menace of these murderous Herdsmen, need to express their opinion. |
