Overran and taken over back. We lost 3 streit APC. HF radio and other weapons. Those streit APC are well armed and that is a very big loss on its own.
Over 200 BHT and the attack went on for over 1 hour. What happened to the tactical air command? 1 hour is enough to scramble F-7, ALPHA JETS, MI-17 or MI-24. They would have destroyed the streit or either force BHT out the vehicles, leaving them to run.

Over 200BHT, we could have had at least 50 kills if we had air assets deployed immediately.

Another reason for Nigeria to work on forming an Air Mobile formation.

1. Why waste your most maneuverable assets for area denial & security - thats what MBT's are for

2. Your fleets of all of the above seem to have suffered serious attrition

Base security can 100% be conducted by effective use of indirect-fire as well as direct-fire crewed weapons. Provided, of course, your fortifications have been properly conducted.

Mortars + HMG's + ATGM's = a secure base
Mortars + HMG's + ATGM's + CAS = Fort Knox

I always preach mortar, mortar and more mortar.

A remote base should have a dozen mortars. Shell them while they advance, it breaks their formation, slows them down and if you hit them so hard they might even think of aborting the assault.

However, if they advance then as you say HMGs, ATGMs and MGLs should welcome them. This forms a perfect defensive solution. They'll be pinned down, while you slaughter them with mortar shells at close range.

It's one of the reasons why Seleka couldn't take the SANDF Bangui base.

Preach, preach let those who have ears let them hear.
The APCs can be hunted down, the ammo recovered, it is the men lost that put me in a bad mood this morning. Hopefully lessons will be learned about what happened at this base, leadership, training and tactical training is key when facing an enemy that has more numbers than you 3:1. I am bummed out but in war these things happen.

It's one of the reasons why Seleka couldn't take the SANDF Bangui base.

Next SANDF rotation for the FIB coming up

- 5 SA Infantry Battalion is currently honing its jungle warfare skills ahead of deploying to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of the MONUSCO Force Intervention Brigade (FIB).

-5 SAI has been at SA Army’s jungle training base outside Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape since the beginning of April.

-When this section of training is completed the unit will move to the SANDF mobilisation unit in Bloemfontein for final mission readiness training and mobilisation before moving out to the eastern DRC in June.

-The deployment is a 12 month one and will be 5 SAI’s third to the central African country.

-To better equip deploying forces, soldiers are prepared in a forest environment where current battle tactics are adapted to suit circumstances and conditions in the DRC

-Utilising the SANDF approach of “we train as we fight and we fight as we train”, deploying soldiers will focus on patrols in jungle areas, house and building clearance, fighting in built-up areas (FIBA), river crossings and fire and movement in dense terrain.

-The emphasis will at all times be on command and control.

-While at Port St Johns soldiers will also undergo helicopter operations training and controlling aerial fire on ground targets from combat support helicopters, including 16 Squadron Rooivalks.

- The country’s total contribution to the UN peacekeeping and peace building effort in the DRC remaining at the 1 300 mark.

That's why we decided to do the comms tests now. If all goes well - an appreciable decrease in comms black-outs when troops are in dense jungle - then the augmented equipment will be in-country in 6 months.

The Nigerian army needs an air wing. This BHT should be a war with a specific date aimed at ending terrorism.

Be ready to deploy air assets when needed. Just look at US operations in the Middle East. The stolen Radio is a bad thing. sad

If you're abandoning base for whatever reason. Destroy the essentials as quickly as possible. That's why special operators carry C4 to destroy their assets while in enemy territory if they feel like they're compromised beyond escape. You can't allow the enemy to have radios, special weaponry, maps and gathered intelligence.

They can be made operational.

Look at how quickly the Nigerian Army's AML-60s resurfaced with new coats of paint when they were needed.

There is nothing to stop them from bringing the ERC 90 Lynxes, EE-9 Cascavels, and AML-90s out of storage and reactivating them.

Even if the fleet has suffered some attrition, Nigeria bought such large numbers of all three types of vehicle it's unthinkable that all of them are too far gone to be rescued from the depots.

AML-90s can't be useful in defending bases in these kinds of assaults. You need intense firepower like 20/30mm IFVs, you can use rapid fire 57mm like the one found on the Mbombe 8 to halt fast moving technicals (but most African countries don't use that gun).

Today 20/04/2017, certainly is one of my more memorable days. On this day, the Nigerian Air Force paid my home town, not just my home town, but my own parents home a medical outreach visit. From where the team provided humanitarian service to my home community.

I felt so much joy and was completely overwhelmed with happiness.

While members of the NAF regiment provided perimeter security, the Nigerian Air Force team Led by Medical Centre Command officer, G. K Eluka, provided free medical care to more than 400 people.

Totally nice guys, after i took permission from the CO, I brought out my mobile phone and photographed away.

They were all so nice and so damn professional. My folks offered them refreshments , but they politely refused.

Still under development.

I don't know with others but the 20/30mm guns will operate or fire single shots if necessary followed by 2-3 shot bursts. That's why the EMAK-30 has a single shot sniper mode.

57mms autocanons are largely available in Russia. Just import and fit, perfect solution for killing technicals. You don't need single fire, you need rapid fire.
