NIGERIAN AIR FORCE AIR WAR COLLEGE GRADUATES FIRST SET OF PARTICIPANTS

The Nigerian Air Force Air War College (NAFAWC) today graduated the first set of participants in Makurdi, Benue State. The NAFAWC was established on 5 September 2016 in fulfillment of the aspiration of the Chief of Air Staff to reposition the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) into a highly professional and disciplined force through capacity building initiatives for effective, efficient and timely employment of air power in response to Nigeria’s national security imperatives.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Defence, Muhammad Mansur Dan-Ali, who was represented by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, stated that the participants have been prepared and adequately equipped for national service. General Olonisakin added that the knowledge of the participants would be required in joint military operations in general and airpower in particular. The CDS also used the occasion to commend the successes being recorded by the NAF in its air operations in the Northeast. In his words, “As the air arm of Armed Forces, the NAF has been playing a crucial role in the counterinsurgency operations in the Northeast where our officers, airmen and airwomen have performed gallantly.”
In his remarks, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Mashal Sadique Abubakar said that he was confident that the graduating participants had been given the necessary training and knowledge to effectively understand the intricacies of air operations. According to him, “I am convinced that the product of this College is comparable to the product of any air war college around the world." The CAS stated that the course was to bridge the gap existing between senior staff course training and the National Defence Course.
Air Marshal Abubakar disclosed that the NAF would “continue to make the College environment comfortable and conducive for teaching and learning through the improvement of facilities and teaching aids". The CAS added that the numerous achievements recorded within the last 20 months would not have been possible without the “unrelenting support and exemplary leadership of Mr President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhamadu Buhari”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commandant of NAFAWC, Air Vice Marshal James Baba, said the participants had been adequately trained in the College and were ready to contribute their quota to the effective employment of air power in Nigeria and beyond. He disclosed that the pioneer Course was inaugurated on 18 November 2016 with 29 senior military officers drawn from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy and the NAF. The participants were exposed to airpower concepts, principles and operations as well as air elements, assets and related issues during the six-month duration of the programme.
Highlights of the graduation ceremony included the conferment of Air Force War College certificates (afwc) on the graduating participants and presentation of awards. Group Captain Olayinka Oyeshola emerged as the best all-round participant while Group Captains Michael Ekweme and Simon Peter won the Chief of Air Staff and NAFAWC Commandant awards respectively.

Boko Haram Staged A Suprise Attack On Soldiers At Sambisa Forest.

Boko Haram terrorists coming out of Sambisa forest launched series of attacks against troops of 114 Task Force Battalion. According to an exclusive report from a soldier to NAIJ.com, he said “Today, troops of 114 Task Force Battalion came under three-pronged attack by Boko Haram terrorists fanning out of Sambisa forest from Damboa, Tokumbere and Pulka axis.”

“In the first attack 2 Boko Haram insurgents paid for their atrocities with their lives while several others sustained gun shot injuries.”But the fate that befell those that attacked Pulka was more dreadful as troops rose to the occasion by repelling the attacks and killing all the 16 attackers and captured one of them alive during the exploitation. “The gallant troops also recovered 11 AK-47 rifles, 3 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), 1 Browning Machine Gun (BMG) and 2 Toyota Hilux vehicles. “Others are a 60mm Mortar tube, 7 boxes of 12.7mm ammunition and 1 belt of 12.7mm ammunition. Also 3 soldiers sustained minor injuries”.

Probably unless there's a coordinated final push on bh, Seems they still have large pockets of space they can spring up camps, regroup, ambushes etc.

Not sure of the dynamics on ground, but sometimes I'm not sure if they army prefers the model of the endless battle of Pakistan army against Taliban in the mountains of Waziristan or would a model of timed troop surges like Iraqi army against 'shitty state' totally clearing out enemies from a geographical location be better. The latter option is best but who knows with Nigerian army.

There are alot of reason why terrorism will persist in the north east of nigeria

-the vast nature of game reserve of sambisa and other game reserves in yola and adamawa state.
-porous boders that runs into thousands of kilometers. etc

now that BHT has being degraded, the next phase of the warfare is to block every terrorist funding's & and kill the ideology. in no time the menace will become a thing of the past.

This is going to cost us massively economically if it goes on like this. Costs of oiling the machineries (weapons, missiles, bullets, etc) of war plus loss in productivity in the areas in question; Borno and the whole affected sub region. Time for us to fix up, I don't envy those in charge but its their gauntlet, let them handle it.

It's the sad unfortunate situation we find ourselves. This was always going to be a Turkey type insurgency. Long and drawn out, coupled with extreme poverty and one of the world's worst illiteracy levels, the campaign in the North East was always going to be bad.

Our main priority would be to contain it, which we have been largely successful at. We desperately need to create a Military Industrial Complex, so we can source our equipment locally and look for other sources of generating revenue.

The Insurgency in Nigeria is also tied ideological to that in the Middle East and North Africa. If the insurgencies in the listed areas collapse, we can begin to hope that ours will die off.

The effort from the Military has to focus more on the capture/interdiction of their Leaders.
Also understand the difficulty of the situation apart from Nigeria, they exist in three other countries.Total annihilation in Nigeria means the remnants flee to Chad and Cameroon and No man's land in the Mandata Mountains.
Chad for all it's bluster had a Deadly encounter with BH last week.
Going into Q2, Focus has to be on the Lake Chad areas
and the Mandata Mountains.

The best option is just to declare a full scale war. Imagine them as an enemy invader threatening the sovereignty of Nigeria.
Give them everything we have got and finish this once and for all.
All this slow and expensive operations they are conduction daily is not yielding the wanted result. The longer BHT continue to exist the stronger they will get. Fact!
