You know know it was aguiyi ironsi (an igbo man) dt turned Nigeria from a regional to a unitary govt right? Azikiwe campaigned hard for a "strong centre". Ezeogwu killed for a "strong centre". Awolowo did neither of those things.

I think in years to come Nigeria will start rivalling South Korea and Japan when it comes to suicide.
Why can't some people hold on and try to solve the issues they have on ground or talk to a counsellor/psychologist if they know they can't handle tough situations. Now, this lady just put her parent in anguish. I don't waste my RIP for people that commit suicide. Only cowards commit suicide.

Took time to read through the story and realised young people are getting so crazily bold in the wrong way these days; a reflection of serious problems in the society?

When life was even more analog, monochromatic and more arduous; people thrived on necessity being the mother of creativity making ways where obstacles existed. What if Mandela threw himself off the rocks? Or Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill? Or do we think our own Azikwes, Awolowos etc didn't face their fair share of life's challenges?

Sometimes, we need to call spades by their names and face up to the fact that a lot of suicides are perpetrated by people who simply blew up their personal issues out of proportion. Challenges are part of the human condition and we will all get our fair share of problems.

Adversity breaks some men, yet the same Adversity makes some other men rise to Break Records!

I'd wanna ask who was her bf, who were her friends, was she her own person or who were her major decision influencers, what was her home life like, did she have any emotional troubles, was she the brooding type, how did she process past disappointments, what were her expectations from/of life (how did she process them) etc.

It's not enuf to waste RIP's when some other teenager is planning to snuff himself next week; issue's how to get proactive and mitigate or cease the causative factors altogether!

There is a massive vacuum in people's lives these days. Consumerism, competition, vanity, insecurity, decline in family & traditional values are part of the mix. As we inch closer towards Western individualism, we are sadly going to experience more of Western problems including loneliness in the midst of urban jungles, stiff upper lip (keeping your problems to yourself) and pretending all is well and more.

What could compound the African scenario is that we do not have the social systems, the welfare state, the relative affluence and gainful employments the West have to partly cushion their situation.

Especially teenagers. You should see what social media is turning these current crop of teenagers into. Uve hit d nail on d head. So much vanity, insecurity and competition. Much ado about a whole lot of emptiness. And d bullying is on another level. These kids need professional guidance counsellors in all these secondary schools.

And that's an development I dread so much because never in history have we ever being so out of sync with everything we stand for and that we should be achieving!

With our heavily divided status, fragmented factions, faithless governments, rapidly shrinking resource-pool and the meddlesome, mediocre, self-serving "polithiefcians" with their flaky anti-people governance; I doubt the center will hold before too long except something happens to mitigate and ameliorate the rate of personal discontent on the rise all over.

And, the unsuspecting youth generation no luxury of time to really identity, assimilate or relate to these facts, they just see themselves waking up on the "battlefields" and concrete-jungles i guess.
