The Law took effect post Evans arrest..In any ways, the Law cannot touch Evans because Evans did happened before the Law came into effect.
Having said that, I still believe that Evans needs 100 lashes of koboko every week for the rest of his life.

Generally, criminal statutes cannot have a retroactive effect i.e. ex-post factor law: the new law only kicks in from the date it was enacted/signed into law.

But Evans alleged crimes predate this new law, so it I believe it won't be applicable to his case.

That will put an end to all these Evans drama. He deserves what is coming to him.

They should sentence him to live imprisonment at least he will be useful once in a while ,for intelligence purpose whenever any serious kidnapping issues arise .

if the law specifically states only when the victim dies... then he would not get the death penalty but if the law states that if the victim or any of the victim's associates dies then Evans is getting the death penalty, because a police officer was killed when his gang tried to kidnap the boss of the young shall grow motors.

the applicable law is the law that was in force when he committed the offence not the law newly signed by the Governor today. This is the position in section 36(12) of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. Laws does not operate retrospectively. retrospective law is a bad law in Nigeria. evans will be tried by the old law not this new one

The best you can do for Nigerians is to hang Mr. Evans.

If he's kept in prison, he will run the highest, biggest and most dangerous kidnap cartel ever known in the history of man while in prison.

For the new law signed by Mr. Ambode, it has nothing to do with Evans, he will be tried with the kidnapping law existing before this new law.

That alone makes me doubt if he will be sentenced to death.


This is also another clause any lawyer can exploit to beat death sentence because none of his victims died in their custody.
