Story for the gods. I said my piece already.
The northerners can gamble with Nigeria's unity but not Yorubas.
I'm not shifting the goal post, that's what you guys do.
The moment Nnamdi Kanu started his agitation with the Igbos, Yorubas came out with restructuring. Since the northerners won't agree to disintegration like them, they want to chip in restructuring.
The always try to get what they want by scheming instead of facing their fears.
Cowards!
Why beating about the bush na after you've shifted your goal postcheesy ?

Real igbo's are patriotic nigerians who don't care about biafra. All those miscreants following Nnamdi Kanu cannot even afford three square meal let alone passport. They have been brainwashed to believe money will grow on trees when biafra is declared. They think a change of country name will change their poverty stricken destinies. Ask those millionaire business men igbo's in let's say Alaba or Ladipo market if they care about biafra. Biafra is for the brainless IPOB failures of the east grin

Are Igbos agitating for Biafra?

Which poll has ever been done that proves that Igbos support the agitation?

Regarding the sit at home, widely observed is such a vague term, because the sponsors of IPOB agitation also control our news media they can paint a fake picture that the sit at home protest was observed when it wasn't.

Some of your points - like requirements for Visa - were not valid though.

Ever traveled to any part of West Africa? Did you require Visa? Rarely, also, would you have any issues starting and running a legitimate business in those places as an Ecowas citizen.

The other issues you raised were extreme too. I want to believe that Nigeria would be smart enough not to take extreme measures against Biafra. Extreme measures won't be to Nigeria's advantage at all, as there are a plethora of political options which Biafra may adopt in such cases.

For example, ever wondered how the tiny Eastern European nations (like Estonia, for instance) are able to keep the assertive Russia and domineering Western Europe in check? Go figure.

In our context though, Biafra cannot be called tiny by any stretch of imagination.

There is something very common in NL; people are very comfortable with generalities. Once we get into specifics ( remember I gave concrete challenges facing the Biafra separatist movement; I listed specific laws and regulations that would affect rights and assets) people get uncomfortable and either try to turn it into a joke or to resort to insults because they don't have the resources or information to deal with the issues.

I am a little disappointed Because you led off with something that sounded like a political and legal reality but immediately I tried to turn this into a debate on facts you retreated into some escapist route.

Your generation 25-37/8 are meant to lead this nation but you can't do more that generalities, jokes and insults.

It's fine. I get it. I wish you all the best.

Good I have been looking for someone to talk to on this topic.

First off, the laws I quote are extant laws. No one would be applying punitive laws against Biafra. Rather, Biafra would require exemptions from current laws through new legislation or more likely amendment of current laws.

Secondly Biafra does not automatically become a member of Ecowas. There are admission requirements and processes under the Lome treaty that have to be complied with. This can take at least earliest 3-5 years - this is with the full consent of all current council members.

There are a myriad of legal minefields to be navigated. Let me take double tax. With a specific double tax treaty passed by the house and signed by the president, biafran citizens in Nigeria would pay two taxes. It might not look like much but it's a big deal.

I would be interested to know the "plethora" of political and may I even add financial options available to Biafra in the event that Nigeria chooses to have a " hard Biafrexit"

Let me conclude by saying that I support Biafrans right to self determination and I fully support its exit from Nigeria. I believe that Biafrans share greater ethnic affinity to the Cameroon and central african nations than they do with any of the major tribes currently in Nigeria ( outside of mixed marriages). The yorubas have affinity with the beninoise of Benin Republic, the Saros ( of Sierra Leone and of course the Togolese and outside Nigeria Brazil and Cuba. The North connects with the Maghreb region and ultimately Arabia. The reconnection of Biafra to Central Africa is ultimately unavoidable and perhaps even necessary for both Biafra and the Central african economic union. Cameroon and not Nigeria is likely to pose a greater irritant to a sovereign Biafra.

However, I do not see its current feasibility. In my opinion it would take at least 15-20 years to actualize because it would require a massive domestication of its economy within its own borders. ( let us even leave the issues of borders) as a prelude, and the exit of all characters involved in the the War. That generation is too emotional about the topic . Transfer of assets and economy must happen before the separation because what are currently local bank transfers and the movement of currency would come under an entirely different legal regime. A change in the mindset of igbo businessmen to locate and relocate assets within Biafran borders is an absolute must.

My advice is that supporters of Biafra tone down the rhetoric and begin with immediate effect, the fundamental pre requisites of economic domestication.

I look forward to your comments and observations.

Modification. I thought to add that Ecowas laws regarding setting up of businesses does not oust the supremacy of local laws. An Ecowas visa is an on arrival, time limited one and I does not grant automatic right to residency or business activation. Just so you know.

Good and so refreshing to hear your narrative.

Unfortunately I have no background in Law as seems to be your case. Thus my views on the legal side of the issues may not be adequate. Nonetheless, my thoughts are as follows:

1). I am actually not so sure I understood what you meant by "domestication of the economy". Neither do I see why that should be a pre-requisite to Biafra restoration. Is itfor the avoidance of double taxation??

Well, if by "domestication" you mean the RELOCATION of businesses to the Biafran territories, then I would say NO, that won't be necessary. On the contrary, I'd advocate the outward bound movement. Rather than moving existing Nigerian business back to East PRIOR to independence, I'd prefer they move those businesses further away into other friendly continents or countries, pending when the exit treaty is ratified.

2) I think taxes are paid where the earners live. Thus, there can only be double taxation if Biafra chooses to tax its diaspora population. The other likely causative scenario is where Nigeria chooses to impose a punitive tax regime on all remittances to Biafra. Otherwise, folks with businesses in both Biafra and Nigeria will just have to operate the two as separate entities registered in different jurisdictions.

3) Regarding Banking systems, that won't be an issue. The framework is there already. The only new policy that may apply is the new exchange rate and currency conversion logistics. And if Nigeria decides to get off its primitive behind and do a good job (rather than seeing Biafra as a threat) they may even have Naira adopted as legal tender in Biafra - at least at the beginning.

Ordinarily, we buy stuff from all over the world using our debit cards. In fact, as we speak, it's possible to have funds sent to your local bank account from the US without using a wire transfer system. So why not from Nigeria to Biafra and the other way round?

4) I am not sure about the Central Africa reconnection or politics. And I assume that there is no need for a forceful exit. Thus the negotiation for Biafra exit can go on AT THE SAME TIME with consultations for Ecowas membership. So this will help to speed things up.

And yes, your right to setting up a business in an Ecowas state as a visiting Ecowas national does not invalidate the domestic requirements of the host nation. But no, I don't think you need a visa even on arrival.

https://www.uneca.org/pages/ecowas-free-movement-persons

5)Regarding the "plethora of options", I think for instance, Biafra may have an option to enact a "hugely controversial" Bilateral relations with distant foreign countries, if Nigeria makes the terms for harmonious co-existence and synergy unattractive.
