This weekend alone in bundelisga, we have seen a dubious penalty call rescinded, a yellow card reverted and a red card given in it's stead all courtesy of VAR. Makes you wonder if Matuidi would have remained on the pitch after injuring Onazi had VAR been used in the world Cup.

OMANBALA1:

He probably wouldn't have won the MOTM is we played a top team. Some of the shots he saved were mostly poor attempts from the Siera Leone's. However,I am not taking anything away from him because I have always believed in him.

Stephen Eze of the home-based SE is another Balogun in the making. Dude is a top performer with excellent aerial abilities. He is good with his feet and nothing go past him. He marshalled that defense like a trojan....In fact,he is my MOTM.

Ariwachukwu is another hard man with good ball playing abilities. He is persistent and never lets off, also he is equally good in the air.

The left back Chima Akas of Enyimba is yet to recreate the form he is known for....His famous thunderous left foot has been missing and why is he taking free kicks like he used to. The is a fantastic ball player and loves going forward.

Osamudiamen Okoro was poor in defending and fantastic going forward...Fine,he is an adventurer but must remember his primary goal is defending. His position was exploited all through the match as Aremu and Stephen struggled to keep the highly technical Siera Leone's at bay.

Stanley Okoro is a Plateau United player.
He was signed just before the second stanza of the just concluded season.
Is he still with the club?

Is that the same Stanley Okoro that played with Omeruo in Nigeria U17 in 2009?

He also played for Algeria in Spain.

i understand the spirit in which you are critiquing the team that is we are not there yet which i happen to agree with 100%. in saying that i think it will be a disservice to unduly downplay the amazing results the team has gotten so far against tough opposition.

cameroon may not be indomitable as other teams in the past but they are still a solid international team. they bested senegal, ghana and egypt countries with better or similar level players as us. they also beat morocco on their home turf in a friendly months back. even in their poor confed performance they were beaten by eventual finalists germany and chile. as much as they performances was not up to scratch
they gave fair account of themselves (which is not uncommon for most african reps) so it's a bit of a stretch saying they are not a strong team.

algeria as of the time we faced them were ranked africa's best team and gave us a run for our money forget their recent implosion they will go toe to toe with the best on the continent

zambia as we all know are the best team in southern africa who are always a tough nut to crack.

in all viewed from this single point their results against these power houses is highly commendable but it will be of no effect and a distant memory if we cannot build on this result to get even better afterall didn't ghana thrash egypt 6-1 in the last qualifying campaign before this current one yet where are they now football wise. humility hardwork and constant improvement should be our mantra going forward

Mickael2:

first and foremost don't give up common sense just because you want to be patriotic, thank you.

number two, Cameroon were the punching bags at the confederations cup, so the point about them being a strong team isn't true. the last time we met they collected three. Algeria just lost twice to Zambia, hardly the toughest opposition we have ever faced. now don get me wrong, these are strong teams in the African continent Nd we are doing a marvelous job bossing them in the group and the boys have been doing very well but the truth is that we ain't close yet, not at all. we need to keep improving, if that performance against Cameroon is our best then we need help and quick too. most of the people who started this argument with me later got the point and left, your headache I don't know.

Which players did the Spanish team have prior to that world cup in 98? this is their golden generation. as at then all our first team players were playing in top clubs, we had just won the Olympics two years earlier.

I think he joined Abia Warriors at first.

hmm hmm hmm so many mentions. Where do I start?
Thank you all for keeping the thread bubbling. In fact, I've been in spying mode.
Congrats to our Super Eagles Team B! With what Rohr said about improving the league after the World Cup in his interview, and from what I can see with the NTA partnership, together with the promising performances from the local league boys, I can say there is hope. LIVE matches will expose erring referees. So it's always a good thing. I know for one thing, that as long as I am in this country I will watch our league more than the EPL, a provided the matches are shown as promised.

wasn't such a brilliant freekick remember rufai escorting the ball into the net. most fond memory is definitely that oliseh scud missile. spain was really fancied then. i remember pre-world cup spain had been unbeaten for like 20 or so matches before france beat them 1-0 in a friendly

TheGoodJoe:

That Raul's goal was fantastic. What a way to start the game. I think the long pass came from Hierro. With Mobi Oparakwu running and then jumping to stop it. But the young Real Madrid assassin just tucked it in like a Boss. Hierro also scored a brilliant freekick in that game.

That was a big victory for Nigeria and the highlight of our appearance in the World Cup. We celebrated like we won the World Cup.

Ifeanyi Ifeanyi is a player with so much class and elegance...He controlled the midfield seamlessly. He passes are so simple yet causes so much headache for the opposition. With the more experienced Rabiu Ali on the pitch Ifeanyi was playing a little deep in the center.

Rabiu Ali is a top performer any day. For a guy of his age it looks like he still has a lot to offer. Full of skills and tricks and never stopped running and combined well with Mathias and Ifeanyi.

It was brilliant. It looked like the freekick was going out but it was a brilliant curler. Rufai was escorting the ball to pick it for a goal kick only for the ball to head to the net.

exactly my point rufai made it look better than it actually was. ball would have been a routine save for most goalkeepers

I understand the fear. Especially after Shorunmu who was a superman before injury came back and was a shadow of himself. I believe Enyeama can rise to the task. Either way, after drills in camp, the trainer will know if Enyeama is ready for the Super Eagles.

Rohr has received good news from Chippa United regarding the fitness of his experienced goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.

The 31-year-old netminder missed Nigeria’s two World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon earlier this month due to injury, with Rohr not willing to take a risk to field him in both matches in Uyo and Yaounde.

can exclusively report that Daniel Akpeyi is now in tip-top condition, so much so that he has been named in the starting line-up for Chippa United’s clash against Baroka in the Premier Soccer League on Tuesday evening, barring any last minute change of mind by manager Dan Malesela.

The Super Eagle wanted to return to Chippa United as fit as possible and trained with a local club in Lagos before his trip to South Africa to rejoin his team after the international break.

In the current season, Daniel Akpeyi has no minutes under his belt in the league, whereas he was in between the pipes on 28 occasions last term from a possible 30.

Meanwhile, Rohr has expressed confidence in his team “I am not under any pressure at all. I watched the game yesterday night (Tuesday) and I am very confident the Zambian’s will fall when they come to Nigeria.
Rohr further revealed that he has no plan to change his winning team going into the crucial encounter with the Zambians on October 7 in Uyo.

“I will stick to the same tactics that saw us (Nigeria) see off Cameroon. I see no reason to change a winning team as the boys were fantastic and we must continue to work well as a team to ensure we have a proper team ahead of the World Cup in Russia next year,” hinted the Eagles supremo.

He admitted that he is very happy with the support Nigerians showed his team during the last round of matches of the Group B qualifying series.

Rohr urged all football-loving Nigerians to continue to support the Super Eagles in good and bad times, as he bids to build a formidable team capable of conquering not just Africa, but the world.

Gernot Rohr is expected to announce his squad for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Zambia in the next two weeks.

Once again lets give the NFF some kudos for thier foresight in hiring that coach. The new gk trainer has helped Ezenwa a great deal. Hopefully he will assess Enyeama without sentiments.

Then during one of the Pre tournament foreign programmes shown on NTA then they'd just show a man's face and say 'this is the face of Raul'. Fear would just run down my spine. Raul did show his face on that day but the victory was ours at the end of 90 minutes

Reminds me of the story a good friend of mine who went to France 98 narrated. He said when fans where making their way into the arena. Spanish fans would come over to the faces of Nigerian fans and scream, RAUL! RAUL! making gestures of 4:0.
When the game ended, they (the Nigerian fans) went to the faces of the Spanish fans and screamed RAUL! RAUL! grin
