Well Canadianfly is right. Just because you now have a visa doesn't erase a previous visa refusal.
I've been refused Canadian visit visa twice and I now have a 3 years valid Canadian TRV yet I still declared the previous refusals.
While some people get away with it, unfortunately some don't ( it's called Misrepresentation).

It's importatnt to do the right thing not what you feel. You may not be part of the lucky ones that will get away with it.

And yea, I don't know why Nigerians feel like if they declare a visa refusal it infringes on their status in the society or dents whatever record they are trying to keep clean, hence they make up rules to excuse that. Mine was never contacted. However, I read someone's story on canadavisa where her application was refused because of "inconsistencies in her employment history" or something like that. An experienced forum member had explained that it may have been because her HR did not corroborate either her job history or job functions when contacted. So, while I do not personally know anyone whose HR has been contacted, I'd say it probably happens at CIC's discretion.
