Tithing is a form of offering to the church. For most people a tithe means the giving of at least ten percent of their income. Some churches and youth groups put an emphasis on the giving to the church, while others tend to skim over it.

Yet developing the discipline of tithing early sets us up to feel a responsibility to our churches later and helps us with our money management skills later.

WHERE DOES TITHING COME FROM?
There are several examples of tithing in the Old Testament.
In Leviticus 27:30 and Malachi 3:10 we are asked to give an offering of what we bring in. After all, everything we have has been given to us by God, right? Even in the New Testament, tithing is referenced. In Matthew 23 Jesus even reminds the Pharisees that they need to not only tithe, but also pay attention to things like mercy, justice, and faith.

BUT I ONLY GET AN ALLOWANCE!
Yes, it's easy to find excuses not to tithe. Many of us are privileged to live in some of the most affluent countries in the world. Sometimes we get caught up in comparing what we have to what others have around us, but truthfully, we are really lucky. Even if we only make a little, we can live our lives in a way that we give generously no matter what we're making. Remember the
New Testament widow who gave her last pennies in offering? She had nothing to give but those two pennies, and give she did. She knew that giving an offering was important spiritually.
We all have something we can spare to give. Sure, it can be a sacrifice. Yet, it's a sacrifice worth giving.

WHAT YOU LEARN FROM TITHING
When you tithe, you're expressing something from your heart. If we move beyond the excuses we create for ourselves why we don't give, we gain more than we ever thought we could.

Learning to tithe early teaches us a lot about discipline, stewardship, and giving. Giving a tithe comes from a generous heart. It means we overcome the selfishness inside. Sometimes it's easy to focus only on ourselves and what we need, but really, we are called to think about and protect others around us, too. Tithing takes us a little away from ourselves for a moment.

Tithing also forces us to be better with our finances. Yes, you're a teenager, but learning to manage your money will be one of the most useful skills in your life. Tithing also teaches us stewardship over the church. We love all the youth group activities, instruments used in worship, mission trips overseas…but each of those things takes money. By tithing, we are caring for the church and the church body so that it can continue. You may think your contribution isn't needed due to it being small, but every bit counts.

We also learn how to be grateful for what we have. Gratitude for all that we have been given is easy to forget. In a world of affluence, we sometimes forget that others have less. As we tithe we are reminded to thank God for all He has provided. Giving up that money humbles us.

HOW TO START TITHING
It's easy to talk about tithing, but a whole other thing to start doing it.
If 10 percent seems too much at first, start smaller. Work your way up from an amount that feels comfortable to an amount that is seen more as a sacrifice. Some people are able to give more than 10 percent of their income, and that is wonderful, but the amount you give is between you and God. If giving makes you anxious, try a little at a time. Eventually, tithing will become far

Malachi 3vs 8-12 will help you to understand. Paying tithe has nothing to do with age. If you want God to be with you and bless you, obey the scriptures. Paying tithe is a commandment from God.

fallacies from the pit of hell. You encouraging young children to pay tithe, u really don't have conscience. Tithing is not an avenue to get blessings from God point of correction ..... Mt 23:23 Jesus clearly told the pharisees that they pay tithe of Cummings n herbs n forget to do the most "important" thing, which is justice, faith n mercy.
From that reference Jesus carpeted the so-called tithe every pastor takes sacred as avenue of blessings. Tithe is a law given to the children of Isreal , and they were to pay to the levites since they have no inheritance in Israel. Quote me wrong..... Tithe is not mandatory, rather is voluntarily. You OP, you didn't encourage or teach the children about justice, faith n mercy. Rather u teaching them tithing, may God forgive all of you who preach tithe like a sermon

Ok. Lets look at it objectively and like someone who actually has some form of education. What is the real purpose of giving tithe? According to the bible it is to receive in return multiple fold right? This usually means financial increase. Guy, what you call tithe is basically what normal people call investment. Is it not pure stupidity to give someone your hard earned income in the hopes that some imaginary god will repay you in the future? There is a site called powerpay.org that will basically help you begin a lifetime of investments that will guarantee you wealth over a period of time. Your 10% if invested wisely will yield guaranteed fruits and not this ignorant and irresponsible fraud you have all bought into. Only a lazy, greedy man/woman will hope for something out of nothing. This is usually prevalent with poverty stricken people who have no hopes of a future and are determined to get out it by hook or crook. I hope you guys wake up one day

The Church (and the hypocritical pastors and pastor puppets) is the main reason why thousands are leaving Christianity in droves.

you can still do both. there is a place for tithing and there is place for arms giving. don't make excuses my brother as long as the earth remains , seed time and harvest time remain

Have you tried reading Deu 14:22 down?
Tithes are meant for the following'sj

1. Levites
2. Widows.
3. Orphans and
4. Strangers in your land.

Mind you, you are to share(partake) with the levite, and not hand over your tithe to him.

Let’s get a few points correct. Are we tithing like Abraham or like Moses commanded? I suppose that every Christian will answer, “…like Abraham.” And that is good since we are not under the laws of Moses. The laws of Moses were commanded for the children of Israel as part of the covenant enacted on Sinai. Our own covenant is the New Covenant, it in the blood of Christ and has a different set of rules and codes. So it is easy to see that we are not following the codes of Moses. Yes, Abraham tithed before the Law and we are of the faith of Abraham. If we are tithing, we have to do it like Abraham and not as commanded by Moses.

So, how did Abraham tithe?

And Melchizedek, who was king of Salem and also a priest of the Most High God, brought bread and wine to Abram, blessed him… And Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the loot he had recovered. Gen 14:18-20 GNT

Now, this is the only record we have of Abraham giving a tithe. Please note that he did not pay but gave. That difference is significant because it shows that it was actually a freewill thing; he was not under any law to do it. It was actually a gift of honour to whom honour was due.

So, we see that Abraham gave his tithe to someone. We are already answering the question. The person, Melchizedec, was a priest of the Most High God. Melchizedek, we know, is a former-days type of our Lord Jesus (Heb 7:3). The Lord Jesus is a priest after the order of Melchizedec. He, the Lord, has a new order of priests, and we are part of His priesthood (1 Pet 2:5, Rev 5:10).

Now if we want to be legalistic and follow the letter rather than the simple spirit of Abraham’s tithe, it means we have to give to our own Mechizedek, which is the Lord Jesus. Ok, but how do we go about doing this? How did the Lord Jesus say He collects his things? It is simple; it is through every one of His children.

"Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You… And the King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me. Matt 25:37-40 NASB

It is clear therefore that if I gave something to a Christian in need, I have given it to the Lord Jesus Himself. No one can argue against that. All His children are priests under Him and are authorized therefore to receive gifts on His behalf.

To insist that the tithe belongs to the “house of God,” or the storehouse, referring to a church building or organization, is to be tithing like Moses commanded. That type is under the law.

FACT: The generous and constant giver is the New Covenant faithful tither.

What about the promise of protection(rebuking the devourer) promised in Malachi when you paid your tithe?

Answer: The nation of Israel at that time was under a curse for breaking the laws of Moses, and God promised them that if they started obeying the law He would remove that curse. That was part of the things that happened when they broke the Law of Moses which they have sworn a covenant to. There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION for those who are in Christ Jesus and who walk in the spirit of the law (Rom 8:1).

To insist that the tithe belongs to the “house of God,” or the storehouse, referring to a church building or organization, is to be tithing like Moses commanded. That type is under the law

One fearful thing about the former and present generation in Nigeria and Africa as a whole is that we hardly ask "questions "....We follow blindly.....No explanations.... No research...Just do as others do....No wonder we are so backwards....

How is it possible that, despite the bible being the same one both the leader and d follower uses and yet none has seen Deuteronomy 14 Or numbers 18?

No wonder there is now an even wider gap btw the rich and d poor.....make una continue!! smh
