What do we get for free in America? cheesy
At least you see what to pay for in America... In Nigeria, it is during fuel scarcity you know even with your money, you are suffering!

One is the personalized letter from the doctor accepting you as a patient, the other is simply a list of prices that you can use to estimate your budget or if you are questioned regarding prices at the interview.

so should I use the hospital with the personalized doctors letter as her primary hospital instead of doctoresparati that I have not a single letter headed paper from?

how does doctoresparati come in when we have no documentation/s with them at all? I really need answers cos my wife's interview in coming up fast 19th, I'm so worried

Hello Guys,

Not to sound harsh, i guess you should have read and understood what our people have said over and over again on this thread.

@Vlesparza already gave an explanation of the document doctoresperati sent to you.

One is the doctor's letter accepting wifey as a patient i.e doctor's/hospital correspondence

And the other list of prices to show the VO you know how much and that you are aware of the cost.

Doctoresperati is not a doctor neither are they a hospital.

So i want to believe the two documents are good to go for the interview.

Take the documentation you received. Doctores Para Ti provides the billing and admission of patients for several doctors (this is standard with most private practice doctors in the US). The only documentation you will need (if asked) is the doctor's letter. The other document can be used if you are asked to provide proof regarding the numbers you used on your budget sheet.

my goodness dear...I have to say you have some issues...

Go back and read & sort your emotions out.

what you posted is my response to someone else...and not to her....

Go back & read my response to her & understand why I responded to the person in that way or maybe it's you...

The person said she tried & would not have been able to take those kind of insults & I'm Saying...anyone who knew what they had done at their interview to get the visa would probably swallow it up at that point...

Abeg sorry I didn't read your whole post because its seems like you like to argue more than learn or listen...

Na broken english I speak o!
If you know say you lie...you for de more humble than she....that response was not even directed at her....

Please have some rest...it's better.

Hello lovely & beautiful expected mothers & fathers...

A very big congratulations to you in advance from me...

I believe bringing a child into the world is something words cannot describe & i celebrate each and every parent doing their best to give their child the best...

Also I want to specially celebrate the men in the house, you husbands & fathers rock . You being supportive through the pregnancy and delivery will bring you nothing but blessings.

That being said I wanted to shift add a few things to our conversation here & I hope this will be helpful for both those that would deliver in the U.S and in Nigeria as the case may be since this group is also about birthing a child(or children).

So much preparation!

Since so many of us travel very close to our due dates to deliver...I want to briefly & quickly talk about our hospital bags, having it packed up & ready before the rush to the hospital, clinic or birth centers especially in the U.S.

A hospital bag is what we take to the hospital with our frequently used personal items pack up in it for you & if your husband is there with you & him as well.

Here is a brief list for us:
1. Hospital documents from previous Nigerian Hospital & updated documents from the birthing hospital.
Along with writing materials just in case you want to journal down somethings, experiences...
That's a pen & a journal

For Baby:
2. Diapers/ Nappies (1 pack)

3. Minimum or 3 change of clothes according to the weather (long sleeved inner wear)

4.Head warmer, gloves, socks,

5. A car sear or stroller for when you leave the hospital.

For Mummy
6. Your Phone, Phone charger, ipads, tablets & their chargers, earphones.

7.Your go home outfit after birth (should be loose & free as though you were 6 months pregnant)

8. Your labouring outfit like a singlet, bra top or sports bra...(though the hospital, clinic or birth centers provide a gown)

9.A healthy snack bar, a drink or a bottle of water(though hospitals don't usually allow eating)

10. Toothbrush, toothpaste

11.Your favourite bathing soap & body creme.

12. Nursing bras(2 just in case) & breast pads.

13.Black underwear (pants)

14.Heavy duty sanitary pads for after delivery.

15. Coins for vending machine (just incase)

16.Tictacs for our breath.. smiley

17. Your make up bag incase you will take pictures or record.

18. Camera & camera charger incase you will take pictures or record.

19. Deodorant Ooo!

20. socks...we are likely to feel a little cold during the process.

21.A hair band or hair packer as we know it or a rubber band to pack our hair do up because our hair may get in the way during the process.

For Daddy or Partner
22. Tooth brush & tooth paste

23. Snack bars (they get hungry too) & a drink
They make use of the vending machine change to get themselves other stuff.

24. Body spray, deodorant, bathing soap is provided in the facility, they usually make use of that...

And I think we are set to go ladies...

As Africans I didn't put shampoo, conditioner...because our hair is usually made down or braided so...if you want you could add it.

I hope this was helpful!
Please if you have anything you think should be added help us...

Much love for you guyz!

Hello Ayokunle, hope ur fine and ur fam?

Please I would like to find out more on Emory Midtown because myself and the wife are considering them as we are a bit familiar with Atlanta. Please can you send me an email with how to contact them and also Dr Tate..because I have called them and even sent an email..but I didn’t get any concrete information.

My email is Oladeji.sulaimon@outlook.com

Thanks!
Ayokunle07:
Hello house.

I'm grateful for the gift of this forum. I have consulted nairaland at almost every point of my adult life since 2007 - from the time I came fresh out of school, then NYSC, job, relationship, visa interview, and now birthing in the US. In the course of this journey, I have made interesting friends from here, and received countless invaluable contributions from guys here.

So here is the full account of the missionary journey of my DW.

She flew Qatar Airways at 34w4d to Atlanta in July. The journey was long. The layover was about 9 hours and Qatar pulled an unfortunately ugly card. We had arranged their complimentary hotel from Lagos (they call it STPC) and on the morning of the flight, we got the printed voucher. She got to Qatar and she was told her the airport hotel was full. They gave her a city hotel but Qatar Immigrations would not allow her in. It was later I learnt that Qatar immigrations won't allow entry to people flying for medical purposes/pregnancy.

Fast forward to Atlanta airport, no fireworks. The CBP asked her what she was there for and she told them to have her baby. Dazol! The man then told her to always carry her receipts. Not one document asked or presented.

Hospital: Emory Midtown (Dr Tates)

I'll skip the details that most of us know but I believe some other info here may help mamas contemplating Atlanta and Emory.

We paid for CS and epidural, about $6,525 and Dr Tate's $1,500. On the first appointment, he recommended a test that cost about $100 or so at another location due to the peculiarity of her pregnancy. Dr Tate said she'd need to be induced. She was induced at Emory on Saturday afternoon. All this time I was afraid of the bills that would be slammed at us as we seem to have clearly gone out of the provisions of the package by the induction - but DW's health was paramount to me. But, God, being so good, she pushed without epidural on Sunday afternoon and was discharged on Wednesday. That's about 4 days in the hospital.

Then the big bills came. About 3 weeks later, the adjusted zero balance statement came in. To cut it short, our prepaid money covered for the induction and the 4 days stay in the hospital (that was amazing). Since it was VD, we got a refund of the exact difference. Epidural refund was to come a month after the delivery. Because we paid with a USD card (GTB), refund was easy and straight. We didn't open any account in America. Emory's in-house paed, Child Healthcare of Atlanta, CHOA charged five hundred plus for 'professional' fees the first time with a discount of 40% if payment is made 30 days after receipt of the bill. About a month and half later, the same CHOA sent another bill of 283 for the '2nd physician'. DW argued and shouted and told them she cannot pay after already getting a zero balance from the same CHOA. They offered the 40% discount but DW asked for a 70% discount! They accepted and we paid. We also engaged an external paed after delivery, Kidcare,..cost $140 on first visit, and $90 for the second visit.

SSN came in by mail about a week after delivery. DW waited for me to arrive before we picked up the BC and the other documentation (that was about 1 month after delivery). We got the Nigerian passport after 3 visits to the Consulate at Roswell. $77 fee, $30 for the business centre that we paid through, and $65 for money order to expedite it. If you are in Atlanta, you can PM me to give you tips because expediting is not really an option for all. You must have proof that you are travelling in a few days time. Got the passport one week after. US passport was expedited ($165 I think, not sure now) and collected same day, in fact in 3 hours sef. Infant ticket was bought over the phone at $150 or so.

Special thanks to God and all the contributors on this forum especially cfcchick, Eilenora, reniduke. I am available to assist expectant Emory mamas. God bless you all.

Is time to share my very own Story. I had posted my Visa/POE transcript here. On the 10th of August, I woke up with this energy drive, I never knew it was the baby that was making her way. I asked a Doctor Friend what it is like to be in Labor, her response was like, they no dey tel person, say me sef go know when time reach, I was not feeling any serious pain but I was not too comfortable. I spent more than 4hrs in the Mall that very day, on getting home, I ate hot fufu n soup as if my life dependent on it. I was like let me try and rest after a hectic day only for me 2 have this discomfort feeling, I decided 2 go to the Hospital @ this point even if it was false labor atleast 2 be on the side of caution . I informed my Host which she decided to call Uber for me. I was about to make my way outta the house when I noticed I could not move @ this point. Felt this sharp pain,i screamed and told my Host it looks like the is here, I just laid flat, nex my PRINCESS popped out (I did not push), she came out all by herself right there. It was like a movie. My Host was there 2 grab her otherwise she would have fallen but thank God she was on time.(Did I hear say u Hebrew women kinda delivery yes it was grin ) D umbilical cord was detached. We made our way 2 the hospital. On reaching the Hospital, the baby n I were admitted, they were all overwhelmed that I had a home delivery without any form of complications or tears (God @ work) I was monitored and certified ok after 24hrs, they had given my Discharge Order 2 go home but I refused because the Contract Agreement stated 2days stay so y wanting 2 discharge me after a day? Afterall no b me say make the baby come the way she did. In all there was no Complications, Mother and baby are doing fine, we just returned back to 9ja on Monday. Some useful tips that will be of help to others especially those who don't have time on their side are;Insist u are given the birth Cert form to fill once u are at ur Recovery room. Call vital records after 3days (3126037790) to find out if the BC is ready for collection, once is ready pick up @Downtown Chicago -Daley Center, 50w Washington St Chicago. 1st copy is $15 while subsequent copies are $4. I got my baby's Passport same day I got the BC, both Offices are in Downtown, imdtly I picked up the BC,i headed Passport Office @ 101W Congress Parkway, 9th Floor. Downtown. It was expedited @ $165 collected it that same day. I was told the SSN is likely going to take 4 to 6weeks. Hearing this information, I decided 2 go 2 their Office @ 77W Jackson Street,Downtown is about a5mins walk from the Passport Office. I filled the form and my baby's Ssn was mailed to me within 6days. Lastly, ensure u send ur application for visa on arrival on time, in my case I did not get any approval, I kept sending remainders until I was left with the option of using an Agent that charged me 10k when I just had a day to leave! if only I had known I won't have suffered myself in the 1st place because I knew the kinda pressure I went tru because of their no response. With this, our Missionary journey came to an end. We are back home. I saw the mighty hands of God. 2 him alone be all the glory. Am so happy I found this thread, most of the information was gotten here. Special thank 2 Nerf, freshdad and to all those that took out time to respond to my questions no matter how awkward it sounded. God bless u all.
