Giving back has always been part of me having enjoy much from people who have taught me on several capacity, i will like to give a free councelling services on ICT Career especially with my over 12years experience spaning Graphics Designing, Web Development, Web designing, Graphic Illustrator, Office Suites, Video Editing, CAD, 2D Animation and still counting, one of the question am oftenly ask is about choosing ICT CAREER either as a graduate or someone with no academic stuff so here is a kind of 10 points to factor ICT with your Career

1. ICT field is vast and vast and everyday new areas are added and others outdated.

2. If there is anything you need to cope with, it is the periodic update, releases and patches.

3. ICT is a factor to all of your future endeavor, hence knowledge of computer is now a must.

4. ICT is like a football game, you can be a good winger, striker,...keeper but you need a team

5. There is always everything that portrays your career in ICT, hence the proverbial saying of "iron sharpeneth iron"

6. Most services will be replaced or aided my ICT, Hence you need to rethink about your future, profession or course of study

7. Currently only those with ICT SKILLS can comfortably ignore the fear of unemployment, sack, retrenchment, fire, downsizing etc

8. NIGERIANS are still on the consuming part and not on the production part as we always buy or want the latest phone, system, gadget without thinking on how this gadget work, learning the behind the scenes and studying it and contributing to it development...a case study of china products.

9. ICT is not a service you acquire for free, it requires your commitment, time, patient, finance to master the tools

10. ICT is not a gender base, tribe base, religion base, age base or what ever...so you too can break even and soar high in any choosen ICT Career Path. See You at the top that is if you determine to climb.

BONUS: should you need help on chosing any Pathway on ICT no matter your academic qualification or location, be sure to place a call for free ICT CAREER Councelling Services

Two ways for an answer 1. Is it an ICT course that is related to your field then in that case an idea of your field of study will be necesary 2. Want to just venture in Ict irrespective of what you study then still fine, make your choice and will get back to you.

three factors to consider are Location, relevance and demand, if you do not have any idea in computer, start with Ms office suite, this is a general level entry skill then further with the top demand high area 1.mobile apps development 2. Networking 3. Software Dev. 4. Animation 5. Database Management while On the low budget is 1. Web design 2. Graphic Design 3. Repairs /Maintenance/Troubleshooting (not only laptop but other ICT Gadgets)

Warning: although, this area is quite lucrative and tailored base on the fact that they are selling and keep selling (They are the top in any Ict jobs adverts and note also that jobs in ict are of high ranking than any sector reason is simple, ict cuts across all sectors)

make up your mind from the above areas and i will follow you up.
Thank me later.

I appreciate sir.
Please i really don't know what these top-in-demand ICT courses are all about/what they do and the industries where they find relevance in Nigeria.
Kindly enlighten me on ''mobile app development'', ''software development'' and ''Network''.

BTW i am surprised to see ''Animation'' in the list of the top-in-demand ICT courses.

good to know that you are following but first, some clearification, high end means it will require more capital to learn, they are also more technically oriented, and takes time to master it. Training hubs are not that common in some states but lagos, abuja, portharcourt, enugu (still up coming) you can have one especially via NIIT, AFRIHUB, APTECH and afiliates to prometric and testing centres. Of recent, people prefer learning from field under someone but people varies and could be so reservative in puting others through. Regarding your questions, well ask your self the games, application etc on your phone how come? Networking how come isp services, w/lan, telecom in banks, offices etc. The animation area is a full virgin land ask why FG puts it in Npower? Hope have given you a clue.

First, let me commend you for the diligence and time u put into helping others here. Well done bro.

To the main reason I quoted you, recently, I picked interest in networking, so I started watching YouTube tutorial videos and I must say networking is very interesting and I am catching up pretty well. Now I want to sit for the Cisco certification exam(since that is the only way one will be employable as a Network Engineer) and I need a good training Institute, one that offer enough practical/hands on networking. Don't know if u could recommend some good Institutes for me.

Also learnt that IIHT lagos is one of the best in the country right now, if u have heard of the company, want to know if they reliable?

As a newbie, I also would love to have u as a mentor, that is if u don't mind.

I really commend your willingness in learning! As far as going to youtube? That must have been a good courage to dig millions of videos...how did you cope with speed video and settling for the videos of your choice? Were the videos from instructors or students? All, the same Bravo. In my own opinion Youtube Video can only take you with little to wonder about and Never a substitute to the real life training else, by now everyone will be expert and never a good start for beginner or be prepared to waste Mb, try several videos from several chanels from unverified tutor, experience speed video or long dragging boring video in the name of tutorial.

To your questions, Why do you Want to go for Networking? Successful venture begins with reasons, your why reason will bring the how solutions and this is the only known line that connects dream with reality.

Your choice already is IIHT, so by that am sure you have settle for it, but why should you join others for IIHT, is it just the name or fame, have you visited them before, enquire about them from past students, generally, education like ICT is not about which school name but what you can do afterward.

I want to challenge you to make effort to compare and contrast interms of delivery, costwise, facilities, student benefits and past users before settling for any ICT training centre.

Here is what you must know about ict training hubs, 1. Exhorbitant fee but waived through scholarship kind of exam (periodically). 2. Are partners with major technology vendors like Microsoft, Sun microsystem, oracle, cisco, comptia, ibm etc. 3. They are accredited prometric and pearson testing centre 4. Have international presence 5. Offers credit unit exchange with foreign universities or colleges 6. Have direct link with industry in need of such workforce and retains the best for Interns.

Any ICT centre that offer the above feature after making due deligence on your assignment just go for it.

Bonus: NIIT (note the name-its our own Nigerian brand.) awards Diploma and Certificate that is even recognise by Federal Ministry of Education and National Board of technical education.

List to check with
1. IIHT
2. New Horizons
3. APTECH
4. NIIT
5. AFRIHUB

Hope, have given you a clue!

Actually, the YouTube videos I consult are just to get me acquainted with basic networking concepts and ideas. I have always had it at the back of my mind that I will enrol in a training Institute...

I opted for networking because it's an aspect of IT that I can thrive in considering it technicalities(analysis and calculation) since I am an engineering graduate. But away from this reason, I am really enthusiastic about networking and it's a Ventures in which i feel challenged and compelled to learn more.

Sincerely, IIHT tops the list of institutions on my mind and reasons are tied on the encouraging reviews online, though not popular like it's counterparts. And they also provide the benefits u listed above.

Let me also make it known that I am open to corrects, I look to get more insights from u. You are most appreciated.

God bless!

For web start with Html, Graphics start with corel-draw

For laptop any good one can serve except if Graphics is killing you, then you go for ones made exclusively for good Graphics

when you say graphic design do you mean the normal graphic design in printing press or is there more to it.

those two are big time rivals and will not suggest you even do both at same time rather one at a time and if you must start with, networking is simpler in the sense that no preknowlege in coding is required and no multiple language needed as seen in software dev that you have to learn different programing syntax. Networking training is cheaper than apps dev and the learning curve flexible bt am not saying any is hard to learn, it depends on the trainer and the trainee. Am not presently in Lagos, but am sure lagos have overflow of ict training centres not to mention the mushroom computer school scattered over there, so first decide on which path to take, check your ability to learn quick, have it that certification will certify that you have a knowledge but the knowledge pulls the cash not certificate, get a system. Get some cash as training in this field is not free, decide if you want to be trained in a professional school or under someone, make your own research about such person or school (have given a clue on this before on this thread) have it helps, good luck.

Thank you very much sir.

I did some findings on networking and i discovered that there are levels in networking (CCNA, CCNP and CCIE) one has to attain in order to remain relevant in the ICT community. Each level has its own cost. And i heard that CCIE certification has to be renewed every 2years.

Mobile app/Software app has nothing like that.

Please after all these, i really don't understand how network is cheaper and more flexible to learn compared to mobile app/Software development.

Please kindly enlighten me on what is obtainable in choosing any of the two. Because to me now, network seems harder and more expensive.

God bless you sir.

Alright, let me start this way, you spend 6yrs in primary school, 6yrs in secondary sch, 4yrs(minimum) in university. YOU can stop there or go for Pgd, master, doctorate, professorship. To become a professor is it easy? can you do master without Bsc? But don't you need 5waec papers as requirement for bsc program? There are also different job for different people based on their qualification. To be a lecturer, you must hold msc right? To climb the ladder will you not upgrade ur qualification, the process involved will it be just for free or automatic? That is just an analogy for your personal consumption.

To clearify you on my earlier facts, Ccna, ccnp, ccie are from one source Cisco. Difference is that na is the fundamental level, np is intermediate and ie is advanced. Did you find out how many people are ie holders in Nigeria? Ok that school to start with. Get the bsc which is na, you wil stil get job, gather experience and ask if you want to climb the ladder, then go for np. Most of your teachers are in the np grade. I hope you know that you cant get np without na and ie without np and there are sub specialties there. Back to ie, what do u want to do with it, want to leave Naijacartoon alone in Naija? Lol market and pay package and benefits is at peak for i.e holders. YES i said cheap in the technical sence as na,np,ie are just one line certification and you can do something even with na. To mobile, we have android, java, windows and apple platform, different vendors, diff learning curve except u just want to pick android and concentrate then be prepared for the headache of downgrading and upgrading to latest version, post version and previous version compartibility, code rewriting and bug fixing and what if i came to you and say i want my naijacartoon to have android and Ios app and you say no to ios, then your just a 1leg footballer..so that was the direction that i meant. Lastly on update, i just laugh while typing this part, update cant be taken away from technology it plays commercial role, maintenance role and relevance role if in doubt ask microsoft and miscrosoft own certification is leading interms of update and invalid certification, let me free my phone pad for now, have a lovely day.

Sir, i heard Network is of different parts, but the two main parts are the Server Admin and Network Admin with Microsoft and Cisco as the vendors respectively.

I also heard that there is the Linux environment and Microsoft environment in Networking. Also Network Architecture/Network Engineering and Network Security.

Please sir, i want to draw from your ocean of knowledge and experience as regards these various fields.

I need clarity on these Networking fields. I don't want to waste money studying irrelevant ICT courses.

Your right no body wants to waste money but of a truth, i would not see it as a waste but rather as an investment. NO knowlege is really a waste but what we do with such knowlege matters. To your question, Networking is like Engineering, we have electrical, electronic, civic, mechanical (did i miss any) branch of it. First ask your self what do you really want from networking and why do you even what to venture into it in the first instance? Perhaps, you mix up some points, all the networking from cc(cisco certify) is all about cisco product like switches, hub just any networking device by cisco and if you focus on cc (not confuse with creative cloud- hope my student in adobe suite will forgive me for this usage) you become certify in na,np or ie in tiers of series of exams and in the na, you have options to product line of choice specialty just like electrician (technician this time around) specializing in conduit wiring which is just an aspect of wiring. CISCO is more of Hardware products and making it work, troubleshoting and using it to setup network connections basically. MICROSOFT, this people just want to be notice everywhere but their area is only significant in software and precisely their software and in the era of cc (cloud computing- i just hope i don't confuse you with this) microsoft networking is not a fancy world to behold so make a u-turn to cisco. Except you want to play around with microsoft internet explorer, porting and routing, domain name configuration, ip mapping and of course restricting you only to microsoft software products like Azure. To deviate a little, windows networking should actually be what you should be contemplating about..especialy workstations(reminds me of windows NT) but following a career line in windows networking will turn you into a windows server administrator with much to care about windows server running (remember microsoft have a windowserver version for this and this will be your area of specialty) away from windows to linux, hmm..i wonder how many people uses linux operating system let alone deploying it for networking let alone need for networking specialist in this free opensource operating system well may be not in Naija presently but have only appreciated linux in webhosting platform (don't just go there, it is out of our context) the linux shell line alone to start with will be friendly if your system is runing on linux so try ubuntu, then prepare yourself for a switch to linux operating system networking...but why will you give yourself such a stress. Hope to hear from you.

I am a pharmacy student and I am very much interested in ICT.I am looking at coding but I don't know which programming language to start with.
sounds good from someone who must have mastered several nnemonics of drugs, pathways and pharmacokinetics-suprise? NO! You need that skills in coding so get back to me after you might have answer two questions (1) am i going to learn coding to boost my pharmacy career or just a fresh independent journey to coding (2)just 5 reasons why i think its coding not any other thing not even graphics designing or animation like my self naijacartoon.

.

Thank you sir. I appreciate.

I want an ICT skill that will easily get me a job.

Going by what you said about Network Engineers carrying network cables/wires and network tools around, i am not cut out for it.

Instead of that, i was thinking of going for software architecture, but i was informed that i could go for Network Admin. Just that i have to learn coding and ethical hacking.

Please how true is this?
And what is the difference between software architecture and software developer?

I heard that with web development one can learn all the basic or foundational IOS/Android/Windows coding language needed to be Mob app developer. Is this true?

Thank you sir.

where people runaway from is where the money is, if you have the passion, well just hope that your uturn is for good and base on personal informed decision. Every Ict skill no matter what level you attend is enough to fetch you money if you actualy know what you are doing. But why money first? Learn the skill, be exceptional, passionate and patience money will find you, its a promise. To your question i will give a summary to it thus: software architecture is all about the anatomy and physiology level of the program already or about to be developed like example Windows OS architecture comes with 32bit and 64bit which means that program compartibility on the architecture is essential for such a program to be installed let alone running have you ever observe 32bit verson of software? Networking administration is more of server configuration, security and uptime optimization, runtime checks etc a knowledge of hacking will help you build and configure server that is security proof but security flaws cannot be overlooked. Ethical hacking is a field of hacking aka white hacking and will help you in forensic, server networking, software developer builds software from scratch, code it with the right frame work aka architecture and flesh it up with functions and response through a development cycle. Coding a website to be responsive for mobile device is different from building a mobile application. Website uses scripting language while app/software development uses high level language. Knowing scripting language can be a foundation to how coding works and not necessary the aspect of coding it. Example in Qbasic print is and output statement but in php echo is an output statement the underlining word is output and you will better catch up than someone with no idea at all. Have a lovely day.
