I'm sure he wouldn't have made those grammatical blunders if he wrote in Hausa.

I've stopped wondering why we celebrate a language that is not our own so much.

Jeez, I can't believe this arrant myopic thinking.
You call someone who can't express himself in English brilliant? Isn't English the dominant language in Nigeria?
And you even shamelessly suggested that vernacular should be adopted.
Whoever spent money to send you anywhere close to the 4 walls of a school made a mistake and wasted his resources.
You are a monumental apology!!!

Is English really that dominant in Nigeria? I think you live in a make believe world.
The sooner you and folk like you wake up the better.

How many Nigerians do you think know the meaning of words like

INFECTION
INTERACTION
RECREATION
LEISURE
At best pidgin English may be dominant in PARTS of southern Nigeia. In the North Hausa is the dominant language
Very few Nigerians even at graduate level converse in English without reverting to pidgin English which is an entirely differentt language

We need to learn from countries like Tanzania that now teaches their school children in Swahili

Teachers are been sacked in Kaduna, they are complaining,if they start sacking in sokoto now am sure his protest placard will be the largest.

This shows that the education system in the country needs total over-haul... Imagine teachers who are to impact knowledge into students can't even express themselves in English especially on social media platform. While Nigerians are still recovering from the situation in Kaduna were many teachers were sacked after failing basic competency tests, a teacher in Sokoto state is in the limelight after "releasing a banger" on Facebook. See below;

Is it "impact" or "impart". The OP must be from the North.

I think it would be better you start posting in your native language to prove to me that the English language is not effective or should be dumped for our native languages.
Why then did you go to school? Were you taught in your native language.
OK let everyone of us start posting on Nairaland and let's see if Nairaland won't go down within 2days with Seun banning use of Native language on his platform.
How delusional of you to use English Language to tell me that English Language isn't worth it.

The people who cling so tenaciously to English in Nigeria are often those from impoverished socially disadvantaged karosin using backgrounds with little capacity for deep reflection
Where have I said English is "not effective"

My Language is not "native" ,whatever that means and your statement that I should post in it is foolish.
THIS is an English language website

What do I know is your language before I stat posting to you in mine.

Rather than spout ignorantly why not do some research.
Your own understanding of English is atrocious anyway
Did I say English is not "worth it" ? What do you mean by "worth it"?

I am saying we should formulate a strategy to educate ourseles in our own languages

This has already been adopted with Swahili in Tanzania ,Welsh in the United Kingdom and Maori in New Zealand.

We need to confirm Prophet Mohammed's WAEC Certificate, maybe he had parallel F9s
Be mindful of how you talk about a religion you are ignorant of,and please I'm begging you to stop bringing prophet Muhammad (SAW) on issues like this because all Muslims in the whole world regards and respect the holy prophet same way they regard and respect prophet Isa (JESUS) A.S.so please take note

The countries you mentioned, do they have same social and ethnic diversities as Nigeria?
You can't be comparing two extremes or expect that what thrive in one extreme can thrive in the other.
Nigeria is already too polarized along ethnic lines. The English language has always been a common unifying ground. Let's leave it at that. Pls shelve the clamour for ethnic languages for the mainstream. It will only divide us the more.
Besides, since you ascribe for native language can you do justice and experiment here and let's see how far it goes.

This is the problem with you Muslims you think through your anuses

Christians believe Jesus is God therefore if you call him a prophet you are being disrespectful to Christianity. The entire basis of Christianity is that he is God not a prophet. Now you believe differently which is your right just as I believe Mohammed is a fraudster and a paedophile. Is is not better to keep these beliefs to youself ? No , you believe Islam's view is correct so you are free to air it no matter what.

Well first of all I am not a Christian either and I do not believe Jesus is son of God either but I do not claim anything is sacred. So no one can offend me by insulting any deity or belief

If you want people to respect your Muhammed or not insult him do not insult their Jesus by insisting he is a prophet otherwise you startan argument of deliberate provocation. Everyone knows what the other person believes ifyouu wan peace keep quiet on those things that are controversial like publicly saying Jesus is a prophet .That is insulting and provocative

Some of the students in the core North were taught with Hausa Language in primary and secondary school. I know a university student who passed only Communication in Arabic and failed other courses because he only understands Hausa Language and Arabic.

Yes I said some not all. Please try and ask corpers from other zones who are teaching in their public schools. The students do tell them to teach them with Hausa Language. I am a lecturer in the core North so it's the fact. A student in 100l came to my office but can't speak English Language to me and later disappeared. Some of them told me they failed my course because of the English Language.

The path you are advocating is saying we should KILL our own languages .WHY should we do that?
I hear your view that English has "been a unifying ground" .There is nothing to say that should stop but it is not serving our educational needs.
To say leave it at that is not a debate .
The truth is there are many countries where people learn English but are still educated in THEIR OWN language.

We should not mix the two things

No one is saying discard English as the langage of goverment and law but the truth is very few Nigerians can speak English properly. If I go out in Nigeria I do not meet such a person everyday. Most people speak pidgin English and NOT English
In Northern Nigeria education would be better served in Hausa Language and people learn English as a language separtely.

Most people in Holland and Germany speak English but are educated in their on languages and that is how it should be.

The fundamental misjudgment we've made as a country is to assume everyone is cut out for the formal education. Some of these peeps up north will do well as semi skilled artisans.
And the North needs not compete with the South by forcing their people to be educated; they should concentrate on their strength and focus on agriculture.
English is not Education. Norway, Germany, China, Poland, most have their education in their Language.

I think you will find that the greater number of English Brigade campaigners are those from low socioeconomic backgrounds who were probably taunted about solecisms in English as kids.
One of the things I admire in Hausas is when you see them count money. They do it in THEIR OWN language. How many southerners can do that.

Is that a thing of pride?

I am glad we are witnessing the renaissance in our music .
I am sure in life time I will see an algebra textbook as well as a physics textbook in Yoruba

You see some peoplego to school to learn other people' ideas while some go to learn how to think and ask questions.

I am asking why can' we study Biology,Chemistry,Physics Mathematics,Geography and so on in Nigerian languages

Why not?
If we can what are the benefits

If we canhow do we get there? What preparation do we need, how long will it take. Will it change the status of English ?

That for me is how to think

If thats how far educatef u are then i rather be illitrate forever

The truth of this matter is that this teacher is probably more intelligent than most of the NLers who are making derrogatve remarks on this thread.

This teacher speaks both Hausa and Arabic very fluently, and does not teach his students in English.

You will find many Italian, Russian, Spanish, or even Israeli teachers who do not speak a word of English yet they are effective in their profession.

Sadly, many Africans remain afflicted with Colo Mentality. SMH

I'm not surprised at all because these guys have missed it long time ago. You can't plant maize seed and expect to harvest something else. Their boko brothers had destroyed those regions scaring away many of their best brains.

I won't be surprised if El-rufai discovers another mass failure should in case he decides to conduct another screening exams for these new recruits.

Finally, our northern guys will need many years to meet up with other regions because too many damages had been done both physically and psychologically.

God bless Nigeria!!

Am proud of some of the best schools in sokoto Iman, khalifa, caliphate etc, but guess wat? 75% of the staff of these schools are southerners. But from wat i saw last time i was in the north, education is really driving into their lives though it will take a long time before they can in anyway come near the south
yes the southerners are educated but only lack common sense because majority chooses to worship a man, some one called jesus christ who have an anus and penis. U guyz believed God can go to toilet with his anus and penis to excrete shit, thats the problem with us,we dnt believe a God need anus and penis at all,we do believed that God is pure and never near such dirty things, what is God have to do with anus for God sake
