Though communicating effectively in English language is a good way to transfer knowledge its never alone the only way to. He could be a good math teacher but pretty bad at speaking Queen's English. If he could deliver in his field effectively and the students perform well in that field then his poor grammar should be excused.

I can bet my 30,000naira that 90 percent of nairalanders bashing these teacher will not get a hundred percent score in a primary 4 exam!! We all need to understand that the north uses hausa as their lingua franca in their daily activities and this usually makes it difficult for them to interprets communication in English unlike most of you who claim you are civilized by dumping your native languages, bearing silly foreign names and adopting everything western.
