Dont spoil that your nice Lexus, just because of saving a few thousand Naira!
Consider your Shock absorbers since Tiles are very dense and heavy articles, especially on this our bad roads.
It is not about space, it is about what it wil do to that nice vehicle.

Go to Orile, you will get good prices and assorted types but please dont transport them in your personal vehicle.

I concur. The floor/wall tiles are very heavy and will put a lot of stress on your car. Consider that most of them are ceramic and the bad roads that we have. I hired a ‘911’ Lorry to transport mine. I can show you the pics

PHOTO CRITIQUE: FOUNDATION MAINTENANCE

It is sometimes shocking how some home owner neglect the maintenance of their foundation. It is without saying that the foundation of a building IS the building. So it is vital to familiarise oneself with the vital rules governing foundations. The first and most important rule is keeping damaging water away from your foundation by all means, even if the building is marine/riverine based; the design concept will excluding damaging water.

Take a look at the photos below: from the first photo, one will notice the gullies that have been created around the foundation of the building. The gullies will store water at the foot of the foundation leading to rising damp. You can see the consequence of this with the rest of the photos. Even after the inner walls have been plastered, the building is still experiencing rising damp. The situation is not helped with the lack of DPC (German Floor).

If the gullies are not maintained long term, the foundation might settle deferentially leading to top to bottom cracks.

No matter what or a contrary opinion, for all projects please do a DPC and subsequently keep water away from your foundation, no holes or gullies around your foundation.

@all...Thanks so much for the input... At this point, I have to give up the idea of conveying the materials in my vehicle.

PHOTO CRITIQUE: ROOFING

Take a look at the first photo: what do you think? I think the arrowed spot is a big point of reference which may cause the home owner lots of
long term trouble with water penetration. The building is fantastic but that spot raises one or two questions which have not been answered going by the final outcome. It looks dodgy and not well executed.

The best practice of roof construction is to clad the roof frame with plastic sheet before laying the roofing tiles or sheet, but we don't do this in Nigeria. We just lay the tiles or roofing sheet straight on the wood frame. Any breach on the sheet, water goes straight into the ceiling causing damage immediately. But if the plastic sheet approach is adopted, any breach water is kept away from the ceiling in the short term giving the owner time to effect repairs.

The best solution where the roof meets a wall is flashband and not felt as currently being used in Nigeria and possibly on this project. See rest of photos

Great ideas.

What we do here is to lay plywood on the wood frame then tar paper before the actual roof material.

Leaks still sometimes occur because water takes the path of least resistance.

Special thanks to all the people that tried to help with my WhatsApp chats transfer problem.
This forum is very, very helpful when you needed help.
I have decided to stay with the new chats database just for my own sanity.
But the easiest procedure was the one that @adanny01 suggested which I tried on my wife's phone and it worked,
by just copying the old chat database to the new phone and then reinstall WhatsApp and tell it to update from old chat.
Thank you very much guys, I am very grateful for all your suggestions. We all learn as we progress in life.

Seasons greetings Hajj, any chance to use this opportunity to switch to the Apple ecosystem? I recommend iPhone 8Plus with 256GB. Just gift the new Samsung to Spyder880 and be done with it grin

Oga mi Sir. No Apple for me o... I actually almost bought the Apple iPhone 8Plus. But comparing it side by side with Samsung Note8, the size made me choose Samsung. I have a big hand and so the fingers are big... I need something big in my hand.
I bought the Note with 64GB because they did not have the 256GB version, but since Samsung can also accommodate external sdcard, I intend buying 1024GB (1TB) card to add, but I have 256GB card in it now. But you are right, I think Oga Spyder deserve a good phone... I will get in contact.

As an expert who keeps classified information, is always better to go for blackberry phones (like blackberry KEYone), they are business oriented and one of the safest phones in the world. You wouldnt bother about malware, call tapping, data hacking et al.

What! Do they still have those things around? I have never used any before... but they were popular at one time.
I also heard that WhatsApp is not supporting them anymore. Thanks.

They're still gasping for breath and are sadly now powered by Android. I'm going to assume that WhatsApp will run on the new ones since they run Android.

What nearly killed blackberry was that android and iOs became popular and everyone dumped them but they now build on android OS. Blackberry is really back and booming. To show you how good they are in building secured phones, they co-manufactured boeing black with boeing, a phone used even by US security chief. Even iPhones has not been certified safe as it stil prone to hacking and security threat.

Hi engineers in the house,
I told my site engineer that i didn't have money for german floor at the time. However, i hve a change of mind and will want to do the german floor now. The problem is the house is already at lintel level.
Am asking if german floor can still be constructed in this house?

I’m not an engineer but have studied this in detail.

Unfortunately the barn doors have been left open on the opportunity to do a monolithic floor. All you can do now is a compromise.

I wouldn’t loose sleep over it and you can take your ideas to your next build.

Good luck Sir.

NOTE: for others, the professional builders amongst us show us the standards. Let’s make them proud by showing them that we’re good students.

@kaybthaniels.
Its just that here in nigeria the percentage of the people that follow standard building code to erect our building and others related structures are few.

Although the problem is the country we are i beleived every body like good things at the right time

The country economy doesn't permit most poeple to follow the standard which caused building collapsing everywhere now.
Some that dont have money are ready to wait and save somemoney to start the project but before you know land graber will sell off the land.

Already this building as attached by biological defect,
And you need to correct it now so that you building will not become sick. ( dont be surprised building do sick and they do diagnose it)

SOLUTION .

What you wanted to do now, i can term it as floor finishing/finishings (BECAUSE what is entails to be oversite concrete is no more there.)

You need to uproot any small trees there and prepare a well good grade of concrete mixture may be gade M10 and of well workable concrete and stuffed the block holes there with hardcore (because i can see that you use 225mm block for the substructure and 150mm for the superstructure which gives gap holes). You can .make the concrete thickness to be 75-100mm , this is not the oversite concrete standard but just because you wanted to safe cost and as i terms is as floor finishing

Also when you wanted to do the outer wall rendering and inner part of the building plastering make sure you use standard mortar ratio for the job because that biological deafect as affected the block to be weak a little.

With the right tools, you can introduce a DPC (German floor) thereby arresting any eventual damp by as much as 80%.

Look for a concrete bore machine like the photo attached and bore two holes per block with good spacing about 2 inches above the floor. Board the external walls and pour your concrete mix. It is recommended you do this for the whole house, but if money and time are any issue, you may only remedy the external walls. But the result may be limited.

To prevent the risk of collapse, it is recommended you do this section by section. If you can't lay your hands on the recommended tool you may use a light duty hammer with care to avoid collapse.
