What kind of education did someone like Kanu receive and he has several investments round the country.

He probably didnt just surround himself with the right set of people

A lesson to our players still in active service.

I hope his former team mates like Kanu, Okocha, Oliseh, Amuneke and co and other well meaning Nigerians can come to his rescue.

I so much love this guy. He was one of my favorite young footballers then.

God please heal him of this one. And give him a new means of livelihood.

Hope you remember Kanu was duped too,it's not about people you moved with and till today Kanu never get over it,he should thank God for his great personality that's paving way for him now through his foundation.

My man let pray not to fall victim of 419 syndicate or a close pal whom you trust but is looking for a way to swindle you

Austin Okocha too almost lost his hard earned money when SGBN had issues but God smiles on him cos he is a top personality, did you know how many Nigerians who have lost fortunes through bad investment.

My man education is the key though we seems not to appreciate it any longer due to easy money in sports and entertainment industry but i realized that educated ones always manages their little resources and earn respect.

Pls compare Segun Odegbami and Adokiye Aimeseameka to their mates, the two are up there leaving a very good life cos they are educated.Felix Owolabi too who had PHD in PE. is having it good.

Seyi Olofinjana despite little money he made is doing well cos of his education and moving faster than his peers in sports entrepreneurship.

Pls check Mike Emenalo rising profile, this is a graduate of Boston university and had poor career as a footballer saving for WC appearance but his education is pushing him up everyday.

Jonathan Akpoborie a US university graduate too had serious issue relating to illegal migrants to the extent his contract was terminated but till today his education is helping him out by having a decent life.

Waheed Akanni also a US university graduate is leaving a cool life despite having a short career as a footballer. He is now the rally point for ex internationals just cos of his education and exposure.

My man education is the key cos if a man is down but looking at his certificate, smiles always comes cos it pave ways unannounced.

I believe education can take different forms. I do not think everyone can get the BSc/MS type of education. Not everyone can get it.

Players could get coaching badges which would help them transition into coaching life. Others could get qualifications and become agents. Other become pundits and earn money.

There are several ways to go. Players should be thinking of the end of their careers at the beginning. This is where education comes in..

Finidi has been coaching youth teams in Europe, Ojokojo too

Amokachi was coaching in finland

Oliseh is in Holland.

You were on point.
It was clear you had some insider information.

ChrisKels:

When I broke the news of Rohr's progress in the pursuit of the German boys sometime late November last year, some people thought I made it up, while some were questioning his continuous pursuit of these boys while the pro innit boys were tagging him a nepotist who is biased with his decisions when it concerns the Germans. People like Kog45 and tbaba1234 tried to be smart, hence, tbaba1234 said Uduokhai would be a lost curse, because, out of the trio, he was the only one with a feasible German dream as he is immensely talented, many reasons were given as to why our pursuit of him was a pipe dream. I jst giggled, and ignored the various quotes because my insider never gives me fake news. U all can now c for urselves

To those pro innit boys, PLEASE which of those average innit players can boldly say he is open to playing for Nigeria? People want us to worship whack players like Adarabi just because he is a mancity prodigy, tomori etc. Though Felix is head and shoulders above those innit guys, did u all see how respectful he sounded to the GWG? No innit player as talented as Felix will admit Nigeria is an option late alone being open to playing for Nigeria

Believe it, or not Jordan and Akpoguma are seriously reconsidering their earlier stances.

I agree but disagree.

Education that is interactive, relevant application led and participatory deliberative gives competitive advantage. In addition increases personal capacity and widens ones knowledge base.

My Father is an academic and taught at UNN that's why I speak Ibo.

In my experience Of Nigerian education. The Lecturers projected themselves as infallible and unquestionable. The lecturers are small god's who require total reverence and must always be obeyed . The modus of study was more about rote memorisation that is cramming and quoting everything the lecture has delivered and never to be in contention and or contradiction with your lecturers.

I went to two Russell group universities in England. I found it shocking to call my Prof. not sir but by his first name Ryan,at the time I thought oyibo deh craze. I remember at a lecture contending and disagreeing with my lecturer. In a large 200 seat lecture theatre.

Crazy but true, he simply got up handed me the microphone and asked me to take the lecture that on this occasion I clearly knew more than him. I can never imagine that happening in Nigeria. Infact the opposite will happen you have just failed that course.

So I think formal education increases and enhances your understanding and your knowledge capacity. It is not an end in itself but a catalyst to widen your appreciations.
that's why in my first paragraph, I opined that a University graduate in Nigeria is not necessarily educated.

You nailed it @the bolded. I was swindled by a trusted partner back in 2011 when I wanted to invest in heavy duty dump trucks.
This guy perfected his strategy because he was an insider and just like Shakespeare said"there is no art to know the construction of a man's heart, in the face". I could never have have guessed such a trusted ally had it in mind to dupe me. I learnt from it and moved on even though the episode set me back but thank goodness I didn't go loco.

Falling victim to fraud is not about education but trusting the wrong person. In Oruma's case, he trusted his pastor. He didn't do no wrong by trusting his pastor.

Yes i agreed with you not really compulsory to be university degrees but they should find a way of educating themselves even if it's NIS but i don't see big deal in it in getting degree, being a pundits is not that easy even a coach but if they they can get certificate that would give them wider opportunities would be better not necessary they should continue in sports.

I still remember my university coach in person of ex international Amusa Adisa who was goalkeeper trainer at 2002 WC,he had his first and second degree in PE as an old man.He was able to get those degrees when he was a school coach and the man is doing well now,our players should try and educate themselves cos is not easy after football career.

I quite agreed with you.

Fallimg victim to fraud is not about education

Some level of education can prevent poorly designed scams. Players can avoid getting swindled by agents and signing slave contracts if they know what to do to protect themselves.

Yes fallen victim is not about education and i believe is not about people ones surrounded himself with cos icon4s was like Oruma moved with bad group but i don't think so.

My major point is Oruma can pick himself up if he is educated even as a coach though not easy earning little,Agali,Akwuegbu are now coach in Nigeria league,so hope is not lost, he should just brace up and face it.God w help him out though not easy to be in money before and looking for the same money again, that's life.

this does not necessarily hold water in Nigeria. This country, even when you are not down, your certificate can only do so much.

What is the point of a certificate if the holder can't even defend it? That is the state of Nigeria, majority certificate holders can't defend their certificates, they enter with nothing and come out even worse.

I'm here saying a girl in 300 level thinks Britain is in America, of what use will her certificate be if she is so ignorant? Most times, current affairs is what employers set as interview questions.

Most Nigerian youths do not know what is happening in this country. Last year, 400 level Sociology students wrote an exam where the lecturer set current affairs questions for them, he asked about the tussle that the Executive and Legislative Arms of Government were having as at then (the Maina issue) and about 97% of them did no know it. Even worse, they were justifying their lack of knowledge with the excuse that being in school doesn't afford one the luxury of watching the news on TV or listening on radio! Imagine, final year students with smart phones. Is it those ones that will now hold faith with their certificates?

Opportunities cannot open for you if you do not prove yourself worthy of them, many people get offered jobs simply by conversing with a person in the position to give jobs. Not because they have the certificate, the certificate will just give you more leverage over someone without, but in today's Nigeria, having a certificate isn't enough

Are those players better than Dominic Iorfa who has been waiting for a call up while the NFF are playing hide and seek with him.
you are funny big bro....

they both start play this hide and seek...with the cliche that his son will play for Nigeria when he clocks 23 as if that is a ritual...unkmow to them...that some smart guys in nff perfectly understood their gimmicks...thinking they're smart...
him and his son were stylisly waiting for 3 lions call up which never materialised...

There are graduates in Nigeria that might as well be uneducated. Just visit any NYSC camp. Sadly, It is getting worse.

That is why i believe that formal education is just one of several solutions. Professional sports certifications and badges could actually serve players better.

Absolutely you are right, just try and have interaction with these players even the foreign based ones you pity their low IQ.

A friend of mine stayed with one of the most respected Nigeria footballer in Paris and he told me that i should forget it that truly they have money but education is seriously affecting their way of life.He was the one that God used to shape up this footballer's life and till today they are inseparable ever when it comes to decision making.

Education mixed with street smart could help in preventing poorly designed scams, but in my case it was just about trusting too much someone I considered family.
The guy knew my investment plans, he simply partnered with some individuals who posed as importers and I trusted him to go check out those trucks because I wasn't in the country at the time and I never suspected anything. That was the end

In Oruma's case, I think hedging all his investment in a business venture which he knew very little about was a mistake everyone should learn from, not just football players.
The saying " never put all your eggs in one basket" is as old as time itself.

As a business man or an investor you definitely would have fallen into the hands of fraudsters in one way or the other. Although the extent of loses vary. If you have never lost money in one way or the other in the form of investments then you have not started investing.

I am not completely putting the blame on Oruma for his predicament but for him to have fallen so low due to one investment gone wrong tells a lot . When I say surrounding himself with the right set of people I don't mean the average person on the streets.
I am talking about Financial advisers.

Although I am not an investment expert but one basic investment principle every one should know is not to put all your eggs in one basket. Which obviously it seems he did. And that begs the question again, who did he surround himself with? Again I mean who were his financial advisers?

And again I am not saying this to rub salt on Oruma's injuries. This is something we as young people need to learn from.

Oruma worked very hard for many years. Played in different countries. Emersed so much wealth only for one Church consortium to wreck it. Too bad.

I buy your point on education being a key factor. But also know that not every educated person is successful.

My sweet sister you are going into another level which I quite agreed, only God w deliver Nigeria from federal character which denied the brilliants ones the opportunities to excel.

When did I mention that the SE haven't faced a grade A team ? If you can show me where I said such, I will apologize to you and deactivate my account.
My post was in simple, plain English at the level an elementary school pupil will understand.
Don't put words in my mouth, please. Read meticulously other people's post before you quote them.

The rest of your post is crystal clear character assassination that I will strongly warn you to desist from henceforth

When someone wants to be clever by half like you, this is what they spill. Look at the bolded below carefully

Could be a matter of opponent. With Arsenal, he faces more disciplined opponents than he has done so far with Nigeria
The world cup will be a litmus test for him, because he will be facing highly technical, disciplined and defensively rigid teams. This is why most world cup matches are boring and drab.

At the bolded statement, meaning.... Since it's a matter of opponent, with Arsenal he faces more disciplined opponents but with Nigeria it's not.

In other words, Zambia, Algeria, Cameroon, and Argentina are all less disciplined teams.

If this isn't you degrading the teams we have played so far then, I wonder what it is.

The way some of you reason sometimes is funny!... So we here are all toddlers or probably you think us fools who can't differentiate a snide remark.

You must not tell a man he is stupid before he knows that you have insulted him.

Yes i understand your point.

Don't jump into conclusion when you don't understand things.
Look,Arsenal are are famous for playing possession football, teams who face Arsenal play with a lot of defensive mindset to disrupt their game.
Cameroun, Argentina, Algeria and Zambia left gaps (that is if you watched any of those games anyway)that no team in England will dare give Arsenal. This results in Iwobi having more space to do damage for Nigeria than he is normally used to at Arsenal.
Mind you this is just my opinion on why Iwobi have better record for Nigeria than Arsenal.

How a supposedly sane, educated and rationale person will interpret my post as degrading Nigerian opponents beats me hollow.

Most young players in big clubs are not living in apartments particularly outside London.

Seyi has a mansion too and he has played first team for Liverpool. Been on loan at several Championship clubs and is creating value for himself.as a professional player.

Adarabioyo has essentially only played youth football. It could all go wrong and he could find himself in non league in a few years time.

Sure there is a possibility of things going wrong, I get the angle you are coming from.

You are right! Nobody is above being scammed once a victim...

It's not easy though... But I pulled through

this does not necessarily hold water in Nigeria.

I get your point, majority of our young people are not in tune with the state of things happening around them outside their academics. I remember how my roommates booed me repeatedly for always buying
and reading newspapers back when I was in the university before dropping out in my second semester.

Super Eagles battle Ukraine in World Cup warm-up March 27

Super Eagles of Nigeria
Super Eagles are set to play Ukraine on March 27 in another World Cup warm-up, SCORENigeria has specially gathered.

Both countries have yet to meet at full international level.

Ukraine did not qualify for the World Cup in neigbouring Russia.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have already confirmed pre-World Cup friendlies against Poland on March 23 in Warsaw and against England on June 2 at Wembley.

The NFF technical committee, which sat today in Abuja after their inauguration, discussed the Ukraine clash.

It was disclosed that Ukraine requested for the friendly and the NFF have since accepted this request.

The Eagles are also shopping for opponents for another friendly window on May 27 with the game to be played in Abuja.

There's no confirmation to the above just a speculation.
