They have their problems too.

Go to Brooklyn and see dog-sized rats on the roads.
If only dog- sized rats could be the only problem in Nigeria, even Americans would migrate here enmass

A lizard in Nigeria cannot become a crocodile overseas. The world is in "turmoil" and solutions to problems is what the world is looking for. If you can't be part of the solution, you will remain at the lowest level of the economy wherever you find yourself.
And, unfortunately, lots of Nigerians happen not to ve any brains to be part of any solution.

Don't get it twisted those guys have british passport already and are only looking for opportunity in Nigeria and at any point they feel they are not getting it they will return back to the UK. Have you seen anyone still trying to get their British passport returning home voluntarily. Please save us all these stories.

It's not really about people assuming they know what they are doing because they come from up town. I have a friend who's friend was course mate with a sitting governor's son in the UK. He's back to Nigeria now and already has picked up a massive job in Abuja. His father is also wealthy.

You see Nigeria, the rich and wealthy run the country. They have squeezed out the lower class and even the middle class. The money keeps revolving around them. Is it a coincidence that while many youths are screaming about leaving the country and are complaining about no jobs et al, that these ones are planning to come back home? No. You think they would come back and join the labor market moving around with worn out shoes, praying and fasting to get a job or opportunity of 50,000? These guys from up town have built solid links, have solid backing or their parentshave built it already for them.

This country is filled with opportunities, but the elite run the show. If you want to get a MEANINGFUL job, win MASSIVE contracts, you have to be part of them. They want to know who you are, who your father is, which university outside the country is your alma mata. Your profile basically.
There are those who have gotten great jobs and massive contracts as nobodies or without any connections, but the possibility of an outsider getting in is a single digit %. As the country gets tougher and harder, the rich tighten the nozzle and opportunities become more scarce for those outside their circle.

This is Deeeep!

The fact is most Nigerians who go to Europe and Asia end up coming back. But US, Canada and Australia? Lie lie...rarely. America nay the worst. If your brother dey go America especially at a young age " teens and 20s" tell him bye like you will never see him again. I say that because all my uncles that went to America, not one out of 7 have come back home. 3 that went to Europe and Asia, come back regularly. That said, the ones in America send money regularly. They just don't want anything to do with the shithole, meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehn. I spoke to one of them yesterday, asked him when are you coming back it's been 29 yrs, he kept saying "I ain't coming back to that shithole, God damn that shithole. Trump keeping it real, meeehn." LOL.

You called your fatherland a shithole? It's unfortunate!

Stop lying.

I am not lying.People live in abject poverty in the UK, especially among blacks and other ethnic minority that are traditionally poor. Many children go with just one meal a day in London, that is if they are lucky to get hand out from food banks that millions depend on to get by. Cramped up in some cold, damp and dingy high priced bedsit or two bedroom flat in Peckham, Brixton, Plaistow or elephant and castle.

Africa is the next big thing, whether good or bad at the moment, and a person with determination and vision can change the lives of not just himself, but for millions. And it is high time we began to feel ashamed as a people that can't independently hold a society together in the 21st century, irrespective of what we choose to blame for our predicaments.

To all those "Check Your Friends" writers.

What is your definition of those who have "made it"

Stop being myopic. There are loads of Doctors, Pharmacist, Lawyers, IT specialist.... Who have "made it" and will never dream of coming back.

Coming back to what?

Mosquitoes
No power supply
Air Pollution
Noise Pollution
To a system that have refused to work despite all the big budgets and nothing to show.

I won't be replying to any "Check Your Friends". I don't understand the language of myopic individuals.

I don't have a single friend who lives in poverty or struggling to have something to eat.

When you leave Nigeria to any country with the wrong paper you will struggle to survive. When you leave above your income you will struggle.

When you are lazy to work even with the right paper you will struggle. If you don't have strong source of income why having too many kids or renting an expensive accommodation?

The real reason your uncles in America are not coming back home is because they are illegal immigrant in the US, if they live they will be grounded in Nigeria. The once in Europe and Asia comes home regularly because they have papers.

Nope...they are all well read and successful; doctors, professors and engineers. Married there with children. They all left at their early 20s and their father now late was very wealthy in the 80s.

Britain is a hell of a country. Living is hard as everything is being monetized. You got to pay for everything. And once your study visa expires if it was studying that brought you, you'd be bundle back home. You can't just own more than two cars without specifying a convincing means of income. There's nothing like tax evasion because it's a serious crime, no even think am. That country no get chill.

This is what day-dreamers don't know before they take the leap.

Except you're able to carve a unique niche for yourself or demonstrate a high degree of excellence at redefining erstwhile nominal products, goods & services, with some fairly robust capital base at hand to handle all overheads and even contingencies; you may find "making it big" becoming a tenuously slow climb, uphill!

There is no arguing the fact that it is extremely easy to make it in Nigeria with the country's banana republic indices. folks traveling out are not stupid but it's all about the Benns, ur competitive advantage and the strategic advantage that you gain from having been around the world not just sitting here doing the same old, same old crap with them home-based lots.

What are we even arguing sef? Just how many of our current leaders were only all 100%home-grown? From pre-independence Nigeria, the Azikwes, the Awolowos, the Tafawa Balewas even presently serving PMB and it's not hard to figure out. There's a lot of money ti be made and relevance to be gained from assisting, importing or catalyzing refined ideas, goods, services or practices from more advanced societies to lesser developed ones.

brownlord:

Broaden your perspectives man. Just how hard is it to "make it" as a legal immigrant in US? Entry level requirement is quite low. Once you can keep ur job, pay your bills/taxes, fly under the radar and stay off illegalities and stupid expenses.
Mind you, the "making it" has levels, what you'll get from all stated above will allow you to flaunt and floss a bit on peeps back home, in the village!
It's not such a big deal anymore, even you yourself, could try getting out and seeing a bit of the world some time. What you'll find will amaze you.

Because in America they work them live slaves with very little holidays and plenty DEBT!

And in Nigeria, there are no jobs with plenty of free time because of it. Plus they have very little possessions hence no need to be in debt. I think i'll stick with America if i had the choice.

Define "made it". The problem with Nigerian is money is you all's god. Don't get me wrong. Money is important but the way you people treat it is the reason for you problems as a people.
