Even if he meant both shipping and clearing, I don't think it should be up to that figure that he was told. From my online research, I think it should be around $5000 for shipping and clearing of 20 ft container, am I right?

I am telling you this out of experience, tel your manufacturer to use mask line, the price is not stable but the current price to onne (ph) is 2050usd but Lagos will be less, mask line will make it easy for you to track your container

I know that majority of the people on here are into mini importation and may not need this sort of information or find it valuable. I also know that many on Nairaland mainly import from Europe and America.

Further more, I am also aware that most of the recommended shipping companies in the mini importation threads are like middle men, who add 1-2 dollars per KG on the cost of your goods than what the real companies handling your shipping charges.

What if you need to import a container from China after discussing with manufacturers on agreed quotes, which shipping company can handle a container load of products? Where is their office located in Nigeria? Can you recommend any one that is trusted?

Please help push this on front page for wider views.

From sketches of research I have done, it will cost me so much to use any of recommended shipping company in the mini importation threads, almost $20,000 because they charge per kg but if I use a container shipping company it is gonna cost me far far less... Around $1200-$3500 to ship a container from China because the shipping company charge per cubic meter.

I am not sure yet as this just research I found via googling and one Nairaland thread from 2010 showed up where someone quoted $1200 and another quoted $3500 or there about.

Please can you help speak to any of the mods to push this to front page? It is very important and urgent!

there are different shipping company and you don't need to stress yourself much on this.
what you need to do is to inform the company you want to place order from in China to get you different shipping line from China to Nigeria with prices and how many days does it takes their container to arrive in Nigeria. the shipping price and date of arrival is different from one shipping line to another.
what kind of product do you intend to import from China to Nigeria? are you sure that the product is not contraband.
Do you intend to get SONCAP certificate because it is very importation while you are about to clear your goods when it arrived in Nigeria.

Bank transfer preferable. I 've a friend who import things from China. He has a Chinese woman that act as his agent over there. I learnt the Chinese woman also 've agents in Nigeria . All he does was to transfer the fund while the Chinese lady's company takes care of shipment etc. You only visit the agent here and pick your stuff after paying for clearance etc

What if I want the container to be shipped by Maersk from China to Nigeria and I tell my manufacturer that that is what I want, can they make that happen and how do I pay Maersk without fear?

Let me tell you how we do ours, we have at least 2manufacturing companies we buy things from and from the beginning they handle our shipping, so already the shipping freight which has a fixed price will be included in the PFI (proforma invoice). The company then send the name of the shipping company to us and usually our agent handles the rest till we get our goods. I don't know if this helps in any way

oh this is nice. So you mean the shipping company will be willing to use Escrow payment to receive their shipping fees? That would be nice. I have never used alibaba escrow but I know of escrow.com and Payoneer escrow (payoneer.com/Escrow‎) . I have used Payoneer Escrow before and it was smooth. If decide to use Payoneer escrow, will the shipping company be willing or it must be ONLY alibaba escrow service?

No, the supplier pays the shipping company knowing the money is already in escrow.

You guys need to exchange email address so you can communicate through that platform for vital informations like scanned documents. The Company prepared the PFI and they send to you while you scrutinize every details on it.

Okay, now I get what you meant. My own question was mostly from China's sea port to Nigeria's sea port, it excluded transport from seller's base to the sea port because I assumed that won't be much.

you have to include all that... because those are the annoying misc that raises the total cost except if you are buying from just one manufacturer, of which, they would also include that too...just yesterday someone from china, a chinese who knows the nigeria market well told me its costs 2200 to ship from there to nigeria and that his office was close to a certain port he mentioned..

You can bypass form M, you are the handler. Form M allows you to buy dollar at official rate to pay supplier but can be tedious to obtain.

Thanks. It is getting clearer. I am buying from one manufacturer only. I know it adds up the cost but I very certain that the cost will not be up to $1000, am I right? So if the shipping fee from China to Nigeria is $2200 according to your Chinese friend, we can add some extras to the $2200 for cost of moving the goods from base source to the Chinese port.
