EPISODE 53
(THE FINALE PART TWO)

Six Months after Simisola’s Recovery, Shakirah’s House.

Shakirah was preparing to take her bath when she heard a knock on the door. She shuddered when she opened the door. “Officers ...” Her voice trembled. “How may I help you, sirs?”

“Good morning, madam,” One of the officers showed her an arrest warrant. “You are under arrest for the kidnapping and blackmailing of one Miss Simisola Fatunde and the attempted murder on the life of one Mr Kasumu Ajani. All other accomplices of yours including Michael, Spark, Ngozi Hyke, and three other men have been arrested with the exception of the one popularly called Tiger. You have a right to an attorney and to remain silent as whatever you say may be used against you in the court of law.”

“Attempted murder on the life of Kasumu Ajani--Scorpion?!” Shakirah was stunned. “I thought he died six months ago!”

“You wish I died six months ago.” Scorpion’s guttural voice echoed in her ears as he walked out from behind the second officer.

“SCORPION!” Shakirah blurted out wide-eyed. At that instance, she began to shake visibly, knees knocking against each other.

“Why are you looking as if you are in the presence of a wandering demon? Well, this is flesh and blood. Sorry to disappoint you.” Scorpion reacted to her trembling.

“B ... B ... But how?”

“A cat, they say, has nine lives. I just used up one from my own,” Scorpion responded.

The policemen cuffed her and lead her away.

Yemi got a call that Shakirah had been arrested in connection with Simisola’s setup and attempted murder on Scorpion’s life. Scorpion had assisted the police in catching her and her accomplices. Yemi and Yinka hurried to the Police Station. On seeing Scorpion, both Yemi and Yinka were bewildered beyond words.

“Scorpion!” They called out at once. “But how?” Yemi asked?

Scorpion smiled. “It’s a long story but that’s a story for another day.”

“Hello, Mr Williams,” Officer Stephen stretched out his hand for a handshake. “You are welcome. We’ve got something interesting for you, sir.” He shook hands with Yinka also and took them to the interrogation room. Shakirah, cuffs in hand, began to spill.

“I am not the main brain behind all of these. I am just an instrument in the hands of the real player.”

Yemi and Yinka’s exchanged glances. “You are not? Then who?” Both of them asked at the same time as if they read each other’s mind.

“Her name is Nicole!”

“NICOLE, the TV presenter?!” Yemi and Yinka looked at each other again.

“Nicole?! How on earth is that possible? How did your paths ever cross?” Yinka was still puzzled.

“We live in a small world, you know.” Shakirah leaned back in her seat. “Don’t forget that Nicole is a journalist and journalists have their ways of getting information. She actually came to the ghetto trying to scoop information about Simisola and we met. We both discovered we had a common enemy so we teamed up.”
Yemi ran his fingers through his hair as he listened appalled. Shakirah continued, “How do you think I became very powerful? Powerful to the point that I could take down the mighty Scorpion and have control over my Instruments of Death? Think about it. It was because I had enough money to play around with and how do you think I got all that money? Nicole supplied them of course!”

Yemi whistled as he switched his glance from Shakirah to Yinka to the officer and back to Shakirah. “So, Nicole could go to this length to get at poor, harmless Simisola?”

“Wow! This is extremely surprising. Even my philosophical mind could not have seen this coming,” Yinka voiced out. “Nicole capable of such egregious acts? This is serious!”

“Well gentlemen,” Officer Stephen waded in, “we have begun our investigation already into this allegation against Miss Nicole Abimbola and I can assure you that we shall bring her to justice if found culpable.”

EPISODE 54
(THE FINALE FINAL PART)

Twelve months later, Simisola came back to Nigeria a completely different person. Her skin as fresh as that of a little baby and her beauty more pronounced. She was a cynosure of attraction.

Yemi opened a state-of-the-art beauty salon for her in Banana Island which became the haven of the rich. Soon, Simisola made a name for herself and became a force to be reckoned with in the beauty industry. She began rubbing shoulders with the crème-de-la-crème of the society.

Fame searched for and found her. She became a celebrity. Her face started adorning one beauty and lifestyle magazine after the other. Television and radio stations interviewed her. Every media house wanted to tell her story. She became the apple of Mrs Williams’ eye as she became proud to be associated with her.

Her case was a perfect reflection of the saying that if someone who had suffered for six years tastes wealth for six months he would forget he ever suffered in his life. However, one thing Simisola failed to forget was her humble beginnings. She took Ngozi along with her and made her her deputy. She visited Pink Roses from time to time helping in whatever capacity she could. In spite of her elevated status in the society, she was always proud to be associated with the ghetto and referred to Pink Roses as where her success story began. This gave Auntie Funmi, Pink Roses, and her girls quite an exposure. Before long, every girl wanted to be an apprentice at Pink Roses. And the likes of Taiwo, Kehinde, Lolade, and others became much sought-afters.

Shakirah, Spark, Michael, Ngozi Hyke, and the three men that were with Tiger, on the other hand, were all found guilty of the charges against them and were each sentenced to five years in prison. Risi was found guilty of minor charges and was sentenced to six months in prison. Tiger was still on the run.

Ajele Village also witnessed some changes. For one thing, it became more prominent on the map as the place the ‘legendary’ Simisola hailed from. Additionally, it saw the construction of one of the masterpieces in the region as Simisola’s parents’ residence was transformed into a modern edifice to the chagrin of Iya Afusa and her cohorts. Simisola sent her siblings to the best schools and rewrote the story of her family.

Yinka continued as the philosophical best friend of Yemi’s and a diehard lover of Gulder. Nicole was equally found guilty of the crimes brought against her and was sent to prison for five years.

As for Scorpion, he remained the Protector of the Hoods--a neighbourhood superhero of some sort, committed to getting rid of the scoundrels oppressing the innocent. Only that he now used less brute force but more civil methods. However, there was one more need of his brute force.

Far away, in Benue State, Tiger enjoyed himself in a bar in the company of three scantily dressed ladies and loads of assorted alcoholic drinks. The door opened and two strong legs walked in. The cloud darkened and lightning bolts flashed amidst roaring thunderstorms in the background. The entire bar became cold.

Tiger looked up and the cold swallowed him. The glass cup in his hand fell off and made a crashing sound as it hit the ground. He shivered. His legs jerked. His hands trembled. His mouth and chin quivered. His heart thumped against his chest as if finding an escape route.

His source of cold was not the weather but the towering figure of Scorpion standing right before him. He opened his mouth to beg but a blow from Scorpion’s fist sent him blank; everything went black! The next time he opened his eyes, he found himself at the feet of Officer Stephen who dangled a pair of handcuffs before his bedazzled eyes. Minutes later, Scorpion walked out of the police station rubbing his palms together as a smile of fulfilment crept over his face.

Then, the most talked-about wedding of the year came as Simisola and Yemi tied the knot in holy matrimony. The wedding was grandiose. It was attended by the elites and celebrities of the society. Television stations covered it. Paparazzi bombarded it. It was tagged: ‘The Biggest Wedding of the Year’. Mrs Williams moved about from table to table shoulders high appreciating the guests. Mr Williams and all other siblings of Yemi’s were elated. Yinka and Ngozi shone their teeth to the cameras standing beside Yemi and Simisola as the Best Man and the Maid of Honour.

And as the party wound up, Yemi and Simisola resigned to their life of bliss and as they say, lived happily ever after.

But usually, there was no such thing as living
happily ever after!

Rukidanty, like Scorpion himself answered, "it's a long story." One thing authors do is that they don't give all the details all the time. That way, they allow their readers to use their imagination to fill in the blank spaces. It makes the plot engaging and allow the reader to participate in the story unconsciously.

They are a lot of possibilities but I will allow you figure that out yourself.
