Great. But there are other side's to the generally bandied stories.... Although I doubt the doctor story.
it is true, canadian doctors earn 350,000-380000 per year with 42% income tax.

The baseline of everything is that, you shouldnt leave your well paying job here in Nigeria for a future that is not certain in canada. Except you are a Doctor, Nurse or you are ready to start a carrerr in the health profession. Canada/USA dont care weda you are a bank manager or not in your country. Bank mangers,CEO&MD are not Occupations. They are positions.

Exactly. When my sister and her husband landed, thier earnings were below $45k a year cos they were new. The government paid her $500 for each of her children and she has 4. She didn't need any daycare cos my mum was helping out to look after them. This was in 2016. In 2017, my sister and her husband had a combined earning of $121,000. My sister used to work as an accountant in Nigeria but she is working as a social worker here. Her husband was also a contract Staff in Shell earning 400,000 naira in Nigeria. He is here working as a mechanic earning about than 3 times his pay in Nigeria. Government doesn't pay for their kids anymore cos thier household earnings is now greater than $70k.Nigerians here find ways to spend way less on expenses than people think. Trust, if you work hard here, you will succeed.

True talk. Somebody will just sit down somewhere and be dishing out fake news to people based on maybe 1 or 2 negative experiences they have had, they will never talk of the good once

Use WES to evaluate your HND degree and then you can apply for admission for Masters.

To get more information about WES evaluation, search via Google & the USA student visa thread in nairaland etc etc
Thank you. I thinknone needs to pay for the evaluation..

But it's true!

Doctors in Quebec just last month complained about being overpaid. They said the government should consider increasing the pay of nurses and other health sector staff instead.

Nigeria is a country filled with animals, with people who oppress those beneath them with no remorse whatsoever,

A country without laws or standards, and majority of the voters blinded by bigotry and ethnic sentiments.

Let me not even go on and on

Sometimes it's, not about the money, as Nigeria is one of the easiest place to make money, especially when you are ready to cut corners and act without conscience, but for many, it's about living life in a sane environment, where time of law is respected And where there are prospects.

You may not make it in millions there, but with your children and grand children being born in western countries, they will have more opportunities, So it's not just about you

to cut long story short, if you can leave, you better, if not you will most likely regret it in 15 years time

and if you are on such a wage level you may be open to credit cards and other forms of loans and financing which can help you settle down well in nigeria after like 10 years
Obi4gboy:
It might seem like peanuts to you but $1300 a week in Canada after taxes is almost 7500 a month before taxes. Trust me you can live very well on this, especially if you have no debts.

You don't think a Nigerian doctor or nurse wouldn't have to go back to school as well ?

When I left Nigeria 7 years ago, one euro was less than N195, fuel price was so low, with 50naira, I could buy bread and beans, and be filled. Fast forward seven years after, the nation has not only progressed but regressed. Somehow, this lady chooses to focus on the challenges living in a new land as a yardstick to advise others not to come.

The problem with Nigeria is structural. A billionaire won't enjoy what average citizens in civilize country enjoys. I live in the Netherlands and Illegals here are entitled to world-class medical system Buhari runs to London for, and guess what? for free. My classmate routinely travels without a visa almost every weekend to a different country, I fly almost every week for as low 5euros one way, and I've even flown for one euro before (I can upload ticket here if anyone doubts it.)

No matter how poor one is, you can count on the system for your personal protection, education, health, opportunity, just name it. If you have the mean to leave Nigeria, you should leave. In my book, the country is a sinking ship and it will only get worse. Even look at the caliber of a candidate contesting for president, ranging from pastors, old men, and illetrates. Just goes to show that there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

do it yourself. You don't need an agency.

Came back home to earn my degree as there was no money to complete it abroad then.

Saw a Canada immigration service on this same nairaland but their cost is too prohibitive at 270,000 naira.

Lol what a thread. Quiet deceitfully for someone who hasn't done enough research to know that Canada is not beans, but with hard work and a bit of re-education (2years max) , and networking, you can live free and happy for the rest of your life. So what if you flip burgers or wait tables in the interim? As long as you develop yourself and build up your skillset in whatever professional you had previously, you should be able to make something of your life. Its not hard, but its not so easy either. 2, sometimes, 3 jobs, but eventually you can get the much needed "Canadian work experience" which most employers in your field might require. A further advice for those recent graduates considering this move, learn a trade, examples are, pipefitting, long distance truck driving, carpentry, mechanic even, they get paid a lot in Canada. Its not always about "white collar job" Imagine a carpenter earning more than a full shell staff. That's a reality over here. Work on yourself. And change your mindset about your so called hard earned degrees and experience, they don't mean anything because you got them in a shithole country. All the best to all involved eh.
