According to the book of Genesis it was created for man's benefit not woman.

"It is not good for man to be alone"

No wonder we men can pick and chose when marriage is concerned but women cannot.

Just as you have choices to select from, same applies to the woman.

Marriage is not solely for the purpose of procreation.
Some persons get married solely for companionship.

First off, you must differentiate marriage from companionship.

Companionship is what God instituted in the beginning and yes that was for the benefit of the man.

Marriage however is a social construct, an invention of man - and this is for the benefit of the woman.

You sure say no be woman write bible?

Why is it not good for a man to be alone?

The words in the bible are mostly devoid of logical thinking

Do you know which group that passes across a message and expect you not to interpret it logically?

If something looks fishy, it's fishy?

Which of the group can survive alone and which can't?

Your topic is a question; the OP is a statement/opinion.

@Topic: marriage is for the man (from the account of Genesis).

Even a man of 45 can still pick and chose but a woman of 45 will be lucky to find a mate. Marriage seems to favor us more

I've heard of 70 but she was already married. A 70 years old guy can still hook up with 30 years old lady without much stress but not the other way. I'm of the opinion that marriage was created for benefit man that's why we find it easier to hook up.

Genesis 2:18 " And the Lord God said it is not good for man to be alone...."

Solution: "I will make him an help meet for him"

22 "And the rib which the Lord take from man, made him a woman and brought her unto him"

This is marriage bro, it was created by God out of the need he saw in male being. You're right that there was no ceremony and fanfare like we have now but there was no consent from Eve, it was Adam who was happy about what he saw. "And Adam said this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh and she shall be called woman"

Clearly shows that woman is supposed to be a gift from God to us in companionship, with the main purpose to avoid loneliness in man. It means without man so women might not be lonely but without woman, man will be lonely therefore marriage benefits us more and was created mainly for our benefit

How is this companionship supposed to work?
The way it worked for all those people who lived before 1300 BCE when the word marriage was first used.

What is the difference between companionship and marriage?
Like I noted before, marriage is a social construct. It was and is meant to formalize, institutionalize, legalize, and publicize a union between a man and a woman.

Companionship on its own can work without the above, but that leaves the woman vulnerable.

How does marriage benefit a woman?
Well for a start, the word marriage is a derivative from the word matrimony.
Matrimony itself is a French derivative of the word 'matremoine' which is from the Latin derivatives 'mater' (Mother) and 'monium' (action, state, or condition). Matrimony by definition is the 'act' of making a woman into a wife and/or mother.

I will not go into the argument of benefits or who benefits more in a matrimonial union as that will veer us into needless back and forth.
The origins of the word 'marriage' already explains itself as defined with the sentence in bold above.

Except I am missing something,

1. Companionship = cohabiting....

2. I do not know where marriage as a word was first used in the Bible. However, there are several instances of marriage in the Bible..... Adam and Eve; Eve's father (God) consented to the union (it was His idea), gave her to Adam (like you have in wedding ceremonies today) and blest the union. Same with Issac & Rebekah (Abraham's Chief Servant asked for Rabekah's hand from her family who in turn asked her and she accepted); Jacob and Rachel/Leah... infact, it was recorded that after the ceremony, Leah was taken to Jacob's chambers...

All through biblical history, marriage has always been inferred with feasting; even the feast with Jesus after rapture is the marriage supper of the Lamb; the relationship between Christ & the Church is that of a husband & wife.

In John 4, Jesus attended the wedding feast of a couple where He actually performed His first miracle.

Infact cohabiting without marriage (traditional, court, church/islamic) is a sin and I do not even know any culture that doesn't require a ceremony of sorts/parental consent to declare a couple married. There is no difference between cohabiting and pre-martial sex which all societies condemned.

And marriage doesn't leave a woman vulnerable? When has marriage stopped a man from doing whatever he wants? An average woman will even tell you that her husband was better/sweeter before marriage. Even a lot of men allude to it; why the campaign after election?

I would still like to know the advantages a man has in 'companionship' and that the woman has in 'marriage'.

Thought provoking but digressing from topic.Companionship =marriage in the book of Genesis or was there any formal marriage that took place? Eve was made to be a companion to Adam, she wasn't asked to consent, God approved and blessed them to dominate the earth and multiply. I think your emphasis should be on God's approval which you rightfully mentioned but skipped the part where Eve's approval wasn't mentioned but Adam's was (doesn't this show that Adam's opinion mattered more than Eve's because companionship is needed by him)

Marriage is a man made creation, did you notice that in Genesis when the first companionship was done, there was no festivity? It was an agreement between God and man.

Let me break the words down a bit - Son I see you need a companion to deal with this feeling of loneliness I perceive in you. I will make you a suitable helper to be a companion for you. I will bless you and multiply you. After his companion is made, Adam is pleased "At last! I have seen the bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh" But Eve said nothing in response.

You gave examples of marriages in the bible but do you know that even without those festivities one can become companion with another? Look at the case of the Samaritan woman who had 5 husbands. Even though she didn't have a marriage relationship with all of them but Christ referred to them as her husband because at some point she had relationships with them, he even referred to the one she was cohabiting with as her husband.

It benefits both.

I have seem men who fell apart when they lost their wives.

Stop assuming that marriage is for women.

All some men do is to drop money. Once their wives are not around, they don't even know where to start from.

Women actually choose who they want to marry. Marriage is not by force. Even arranged marriages need the approval of the woman.
That's why you hear a man was dumped for another man by his girlfriend.
That's own of the reasons exes are everywhere.
Men too also choose who they want to marry, but this is about yoir erroneous belief about the choices of a woman.
