OP MissCokie: Is this perceived "wrong concept of feminism" because "she is free to act like a man, work like a man, and be like a man?" No offence but I am struggling to understand the post. There are so many different concepts of feminism. In its simplest form, I understand it to be female empowerment and no, I do not consider myself to be inferior to any male by virtue of gender nor do I believe it to be a conquering of, or war with males. 2 Likes |

Any smart Nigerian lady who lives in Nigeria will be setting herself for big time disappointment if she listens to whatever she says. Mentally change when you’ve lived here for decades and that’s just the truth. Everything she’s clamouring about aren’t that bad imo but not applicable to Nigerian residents and that’s where they all got it twisted. I’ve been hand washing my husbands clothes, serve him food and watch him eat regardless what time he comes home, for years now and I live abroad. BUT I’m the decision maker and he wouldn’t want it another way. So you see it’s subjective, but our sisters get it all twisted believing and applying her doctrines to theirs. Ewuro 3 Likes |

Benita27:I don’t see that in her write up maybe you can point it out. Adichie is a public figure therefore is open to criticism she doesn’t need anyone to defend her. OP has a point. Nigerian women adopt doctrines and take it to the extreme. Megan Makel opened the door for harry when he did for her trying to prove her feminism poweress, it has been addressed and that was the last time she’ll come close to a door. You see, her American nonsense doesn’t fly with the Mountbattens. And that doesn’t make her less of a woman. 1 Like |

MissCokie: I removed the paragraphs I do not need hence the shorter quotes. 1. Has Chiamanda ever spoken against marriage? 2. Care to explain how a man is not equal to a woman with examples of what a woman shouldn't be doing? 3. Women have always prayed for husbands so maybe the future is here. 4 Likes |

Ewuro4: @bold: I agree that Chiamanda is everywhere however, I don't think I have heard Chiamanda speak about domestic life as in don't wash your husband's clothes etc. It is also not about location, some NID are more 'crude' than your guy living in Igbo Ora village. The more I read and study cultures, the more I am convinced that we are almost similar. 4 Likes 1 Share |

MissCokie: I worry about the girl child in Nigeria, and definitely not because of Chimamanda. I worry about the incessant rape of young girls in Nigeria, it has become a culture. I worry about the early marriage of the African girl child. I worry about them because of VVF, and the life of misery that follows. I worry about them because they are divorced even before they are 20, once their pedophilic husbands see they are over the age he likes them. I worry about the way the African girl child is used as a pawn by greedy adults, and sent to Italy to become prostitutes. I worry about the girl child born to irresponsible parents who keep churning out babies with no plans for them, and will eventually send these girls to be housemaids to wicked madams and randy rapist ogas. I worry about the African girl child kept in a safe house, and being impregnated yearly to continue running the baby factory for syndicates who care not about them. I worry about the African girl child who has to go and hawk everyday, facing all sorts of hazards daily from road accidents to encountering rapists. I worry about the girl child who always has to go to the stream every morning and evening walking a large distance and missing out on school due to no potable water. There are a million and more things to worry about the African girl child, and Chimamanda is the least of the African girl child's problems. How can we refuse to face the reality that not all parts of our culture is good? This has nothing to do with feminism pls, or Chima.. Africa and black people are looked down upon by the whole world because we rush after irrelevant issues and are too lazy to tackle the issues that are major, and can affect our growth and development as a people. Why are we still struggling with all children having the basic education? Who cares about doors being opened for one as a woman, Nigerian men don't open doors anyway, so how is that one our problem? Please, we have serious problems o. Much more than doors and flowers or whatever. Chima..was addressing oyibo people who don chop belleful, and have opportunities for all. At least you get to go to school, you get food stamps if you're poor so you don't starve as a child. 14 Likes 6 Shares |

bukatyne: You didn’t grasp the contrast in that post= though I do what most women NOW find belittling, I still call the shots hence the point. Women deprived of freewill in their homes fight up and down for a “right” they don’t have in first place. Maybe they should chill. Only critical thinkers gets her, She doesn’t have to speak about domestic stuff, but her contexts imply it. next she interviews Alakija she will. Last time she condesendly asked H.Clinton about representing herself as a mother first before her achievements titles , poor lady who confessed that it never occurred to her, changed it right away. That’s how quick women are swindled and manipulated , hence OP’s point. Good thing Trump won... I guess women are weaker vessel afterall. We are not similar culturally please ,biology makes us similar. What is NID? Btw are you married now, any kid? I forgot folks status. Been a while. 1 Like |

MissCokie: Who is this ILLITERATE? Please, go back to school and pay attention in class. So feminists do not get married or stay married? Sounds like a lot of NL posters. If you can’t define feminism, you have absolutely no business discussing it. Simple! Google is your friend. Always. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism

MissCokie: You are expressing FALSEHOOD, because you misinterpreted the essence of Chimamanda’s feministic philosophy. That makes you either ignorant or illiterate. The term “illiterate” is not meant to be insulting. Just stating the “facts”! https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/illiterate Definition of illiterate You are more of A DANGER to both the MALE and FEMALE child, due to the level of ignorance you are exhibiting in your so-called “article of misrepresentation”. Yes! You are offensive because you lack the most basic knowledge, but are still looking for some kind of “appeal” from the cognitively-impaired like yourself. With NO DUE respects, you should be strangled for even mentioning MRS C-N-A-E.(Mrs Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Esege. Chimamanda has gone to places you can’t even dream of. She has a career, a MEDICAL DOCTOR HUSBAND, a daughter, multiple awards and recognition world-wide. WAS SHE not ONCE an AFRICAN GIRL-CHILD, who fought against sexual abuse from your RANDY-MALE BEASTS OF SEXUAL PREDATORS in NIGERIA, to give women like you a “blogging chance” even by NL standards? What do YOU have but NL? If your “article of truth” is so news-worthy, why scream for “front-page” attention? We are tired of NL posters like you who pretend to discuss topics like feminism, even when all you want is to promote religious buffoonery with supra-mediocre intellect kpa kpa. Please, don’t mention Chimamanda in your articles. You are not qualified to do so! Shalom! 16 Likes 5 Shares |

KanwuliaExtra: Thank you. I am sick of ignorant Nigerians like the Op and her cohorts defining feminism to be about dragging power with man, or dragging head of house with husband. True Feminism is the reason most of you female retards can get an education, vote, drive, work, earn fair wages, go on maternity leave and still have a job when you come back, own properties, even use your phone, and not be relegated to illiterate baby making factories. But I guess the brave women that fought for you to have these things shouldn’t have bothered, because your rlaziness and inability to know a subject matter before discussing it has led to all of you relegating this movement to ordinary husband and wife matter, and mundane things. Idiots! 9 Likes 3 Shares |

MissCokie: Poster, feminism, the real one, not the ignorant bullshit you typed up there, is the reason you were given a chance at education. Though I can see that you passed through school and not the other way round, because if you did, you will have learnt to research a topic of discussion. You just typed something entirely different from what Chimamanda and feminism is about. I am very sure you haven’t read her articles or watched any of her talks, you are probably spewing this rubbish based on headlines that you read online. Just because you want likes and shares on Nairaland doesn’t mean you should be openly illiterate. Please know your subject matter next time, and if you are not sure, a simple google search will educate you. Your access to the internet shouldn’t be limited only to Nairaland, please educate yourself using the link posted for you up there and stop sounding like a “dumb blonde” 5 Likes 1 Share |

Instead of misscokie to say she has a wrong idea of feminism she went to put her trash on the head of chimamanda This topic is absolute BS, I just hope no young impressionable girl tries to follow this rubbish you just posted. And I hope you're trolling, cos if you really believe this. That's sad :- MissCokie: Next time, title it. "Misscokie's wrong idea of feminism and leave chimamanda out of this BS [s]Chimamanda Adichie is married , living happily in a home structured with bright futures for herself and her children. But she has chosen to set other African girls on bound-age and endless blindness to the implications of misunderstanding the actual concept of feminism. All better no thanks necessary The wrongful ideas about feminism has really eaten deep into the brain of the African girl child, and she has accepted that a man is equal to a woman Yep, you're right. women are not equal to men, we are far better than men . But your low self-love and low self-esteem won't allow you to see that I wonder how a human being will say that her entire gender is not equal to another gender, Go and look for your self-esteem abeg. therefore she is free to act like a man, work like a man, and be like a man. I wonder what "work like a man" "act like a man" and "be like a man" "be and remain a woman" entails. Please explain [s]In few years to come, Africa would be filled with single African girls spending endless night in churches and mosque praying for a husband to come their way. More nonsense, and I took care of it once again. No thanks necessary I'm happy to help. 6 Likes |
