the best time to capture this kids is when they are yet to reach stardom. the nff should mandate our youth team coaches to add a certain quota of foreign born players in their teams to any tournament. imagine if we were fast enough to get ademola lookman, the kid would have been on of our breakout stars at the just concluded world cup

My anger is that during that period, Ademola was a core member of team Nigeria UK handled by the honorable man himself Doherty. Still beats me why he was never considered by Manu even though he was doing well for both Charlton and team Nigeria UK. angry

No need for Quota System.

At the U20 invite any player of Nigerian origin whether born home or abroad. Let the best be selected. No favoritism, no Quota system.

Sunderland’s Asoro prefers Nigeria to Sweden

by David Ngobua @Ngobuadavid

Joel Joshghene Asoro who plays for English Championship side, Sunderland has expressed readiness to switch allegiance from Sweden to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Although he has represented Sweden at the U-17 and U-20 level, the attacking midfielder’s parents are Nigerians and so he is eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
A confidant of the player, who spoke to Daily Trust on condition of anonymity, said the youngster is willing to dump Sweden for Nigeria, if the Super Eagles coach would give him a chance.

He said the strong forward is ready to give the other strikers in the Super Eagles a fight for shirt in the team that will represent Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“It is true that Joel has featured for Sweden at the junior levels but he is keen on playing for his fatherland.
“Although he was born and brought up in Sweden, his parents are Nigerians and he is yet to feature for Sweden at the national level.

“Joel will bring attacking options to the national team so if I have access to the national team handlers, I would ask them to give the youngster a chance to fight for shirt in the Super Eagles.

“He said he is ready to come if invited. He is also ready to fight for shirt for the 2018 World Cup,” said the player’s associate.

Asoro signed for English side Sunderland in 2015 but made his professional debut on 21 August 2016, in the league against Middlesbrough.

The 18 year old, who has played 9 times for the Sweden U-21 side made his debut when he started in the 1-1 draw against Spain on 5 September 2016 and also scored the last goal in the team’s 3-0 victory over Estonia on 6 October 2016.

He is currently their best young player this season. I heard he is left footed and a winger when he played for our U20 team this year.
This is great news. At least that U20 coach isn't as useless as I thought he is. More of this and no one will complain about him

Ur post didnt quote Asoro neither did it quote his agent but an anonymous confidant. Not credible enough even though it sounds interesting.

I want to read it from the horse's mouth not from someone who knows someone, that knows someone, that knows Asoro

Bennetts only played friendlies for England U20. He can still play for Nigeria U20.

Mandela Egbo should be monitored and invited to the National team once he begins to make the bench or have some games.

We need to wait until they become Super stars.

Which is why promoting an U17 coach along with his U17 players has never worked for us.

He brings in favoritism. He chooses to promote his U17 players at the expense of quality players out there.

We need a coach with an open mind that can select the best within that age category.

The player was in motion with wind taking up his clothes. Onazi is a seasoned professional that young players look up to, I don't believe he would return back from break overweight. Plus the man just came back from the world cup it's not like he was in Cancun or something.

Who else has noticed that most of our players from the 2015 U-17 set are not finding it as difficult as the previous generations in terms of adapting very quickly to the high standards in Europe top leagues likes of Kingsley Micheal, orji, chuckwueze, kelechi N....signs of progress in our football BTW where is zakari Lukeman? bundle of talent but no major transfer!

Our Academies are improving and gradually we are getting it right age wise. The previous ones found it so hard because most had passed their formative(learning) stages and even their primes when we paraded them as U17s.

Guy if u come to Diamond Football Academy umuahia, u will agree with me that we have some good Academies. At Diamond, ur original first school leaving cert is ur primary credential to get admitted, in fact they dont normally take students who aint in secondary schools unless u are extremely good, so no how u gonna doctor ur age and it has grades, hence u are placed where ur age falls. They already have a club in the Portuguese third division where they give their top talents that first European exposure to prepare them well.

Very important move for Awoniyi. A very good step up. If he does well in France, we might have found the decent striker, we need.

Yes I feel like there's something special about this young crop of players. That's why I don't want Rohr to leave just yet, because like it or not he knows this current generation of players the most, so I want to see how he will mesh the current SAs with the incoming generation of talent. If we keep switching in random player's and coaches every 2-3 years it will cause instability. I'm not saying keep all the players on the current SA squad, there are some obvious names we need to get rid of like Joel Obi and Onazi. But if you look at the powerhouses in international football like Brazil, Croatia, England, France, Argentina etc, you'll notice that they stick with a golden nucleus of players for a 5-8 years and they have a solid chemistry going. But here in Nigeria we have player's for one world cup and after that they're gone forever.

Look at Argentina, if you look at their 2010, 2014 and 2018 squad closely you'll see a resemblance in their line-ups with slight alterations and gradually they saw he they needed and who they didn't need. But if you look at our line-ups in 2010, 2014, 2018 it's like black, white and blue. It's similar to someone who plays FIFA with an 83 overall Manchester city for 5 years. Overtime it becomes second nature like using your right hand and they person becomes unbeatable. But if the person starts playing with Liverpool then they start loosing. So let's not kick Rohr to the curb just yet but if he performs poorly at the in near future give him the boot, but stick with the lineup.
