Our Academies are improving and gradually we are getting it right age wise. The previous ones found it so hard because most had passed their formative(learning) stages and even their primes when we paraded them as U17s.

Guy if u come to Diamond Football Academy umuahia, u will agree with me that we have some good Academies. At Diamond, ur original first school leaving cert is ur primary credential to get admitted, in fact they dont normally take students who aint in secondary schools unless u are extremely good, so no how u gonna doctor ur age and it has grades, hence u are placed where ur age falls. They already have a club in the Portuguese third division where they give their top talents that first European exposure to prepare them well.

That’s true I rate diamond very highly! One of the the current best football academies in Nigeria that teach the knowledge of the game and not just physical development, i here they have classy equipment in the academy.
Wish we had more academies like aspire academy.

Precocious Norwich City Nigerian teenage striker, Adam Idah grabbed the headlines yet again on Tuesday after helping himself to four of his side's goals in a 6-0 trouncing of Borussia Dortmund II at the Schwansbell Stadium.

Idah, 17, was one of the two players of Nigerian descent in his side's starting XI, the other been defender, Timi Odusina and the duo were impressive during their run-outs.

The striker particularly put in a sensational showing for the Canaries, opening scoring from the spot just five minutes into the match before waltzing through the Dortmund defence to feed teammate, Payne who then set up Spyrou to score.

His best was even yet to come though as he scored four minutes to the break and then added two more afterwards, the pick of his efforts arguably his last to make it 6-0 when he took on the opposition defenders, outwitting them in style before dispatching with aplomb.

Both players were promoted to the U23s last season despite their tender years and they will not be short of suitors who will be willing to offer them first team football.

At the end of last campaign, the talented striker, who has been compared to Sweden legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, made a clean sweep of the club's annual awards, taking home both the U18 Player Of The Year and Academy Player Of The Year.

Yes I feel like there's something special about this young crop of players. That's why I don't want Rohr to leave just yet, because like it or not he knows this current generation of players the most, so I want to see how he will mesh the current SAs with the incoming generation of talent. If we keep switching in random player's and coaches every 2-3 years it will cause instability. I'm not saying keep all the players on the current SA squad, there are some obvious names we need to get rid of like Joel Obi and Onazi. But if you look at the powerhouses in international football like Brazil, Croatia, England, France, Argentina etc, you'll notice that they stick with a golden nucleus of players for a 5-8 years and they have a solid chemistry going. But here in Nigeria we have player's for one world cup and after that they're gone forever.

Look at Argentina, if you look at their 2010, 2014 and 2018 squad closely you'll see a resemblance in their line-ups with slight alterations and gradually they saw he they needed and who they didn't need. But if you look at our line-ups in 2010, 2014, 2018 it's like black, white and blue. It's similar to someone who plays FIFA with an 83 overall Manchester city for 5 years. Overtime it becomes second nature like using your right hand and they person becomes unbeatable. But if the person starts playing with Liverpool then they start loosing. So let's not kick Rohr to the curb just yet but if he performs poorly at the in near future give him the boot, but stick with the lineup.
Sadly people don’t share the same idea with you, to wait and reap the product of development over a period of time.

TT Introduces: Man City hotshot Henri Ogunby

And given his incredible performances for the Under-18 side at the Etihad Stadium, it could well be 17-year-old Henri Ogunby who is the next to break-through, in doing so potentially piling the pressure on the likes of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling in the future.

The right winger mustered five appearances in the Under-18 Premier League back in the 2016/17 season, but managed to produce the goods on his first appearance for the side in scoring one and setting up another in their 4-4 draw with Everton back in November 2016.

And the youngster built upon that magnificent start to life at City by seriously impressing last season in netting eight goals and laying on eight assists for the club in their run to second place in the North division of the Under-18 Premier League – only Liverpool’s Adam Lewis (nine) laid on more assists than Ogunby.

And while he is yet to turn out for the development squad at the North West giants, a spot on the bench for their Checkatrade Trophy clash with Bradford City last season suggests that he isn’t too far away from doing so, thus underlining that a first team appearance may not be too far away.

And at the tender age of 17, he could well be the man to push messrs Sane and Sterling, two fellow youngsters at the age of 22 and 23 respectively, for a place down the flanks in Guardiola’s side in the future.

17-Year-Old Defender Among Four Nigerians Named In Man City Squad For USA Tour
Manchester City have revealed their full squad for the tour of United States later this month, including four Nigerian youngsters in their list, the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Lukas Nmecha and Tom Dele-Bashiru as well the club's U-18 sensation, Nathanael Ogbeta.

A picture published on the Citizen's Twitter handle revealed that the aforementioned quartet are among the 28 players listed for their pre-season activities in the States, having been observed at close quarters by the club's manager, Josep Guardiola during training at the City Football Academy ahead of the new season.

While Adarabioyo, Nmecha and Dele-Bashiru have all made their first team debuts for the Etihad Stadium outfit, Ogbeta, a defender by trade, has yet to earn a place with the senior side but this could be a pointer that he is well in the plans of Guardiola for the upcoming campaign.

The 17-year old made ten appearances for the U18s in the UPL last term, scoring the winner for the Young Citizens in a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough.

Adarabioyo made his first-team debut in an FA Cup match against Chelsea in February 2016 while his compatriot, Nmecha made his professional debut for Manchester City in a League Cup clash vs Leicester City in December 2017, and took in three appearances for the first team last season.

City will play their first ICC game against Borrusia Dortmund on Saturday 21st, with clashes versus Liverpool and Bayern Munich yet to come.

Bennetts only played friendlies for England U20. He can still play for Nigeria U20.

Mandela Egbo should be monitored and invited to the National team once he begins to make the bench or have some games.

We need to wait until they become Super stars.

Most promising U20 players in Europe at this stage should already have a considerable number of first team games under thier belts before being considered.

Or in the alternative have done well on a loan move.

That's why I am waiting for Bobby Adekanya ex PSV Barcelona and now Liverpool. But then his pedigree may allow for exceptional circumstances.

Who will he displace at Liverpool Mane or Salah❓ The competition ahead of him is too much.

When I watched Nmecha, I was not convinced with his play but looks a versatile and technical player like Danillo. I think that is why Guardiola likes the young man a lot. Nmecha must have gained a lot working regularly with Guardiola.

World Cup 2018: France & Nigeria stars in U23 Player of the Tournament

Kylian Mbappe took home the Young Player award, but which other youngsters shone in Russia?

The age of the undiscovered footballer is dead. An influx of money and technology has put paid to that, but there remains something thrilling about a young player starring at the World Cup.

Everybody loves an audacious talent, who uses the biggest platform of them to overthrow the established order. 2018 has been no exception.

Kylian Mbappe stole most of the headlines, as the 19-year-old bagged a goal in the World Cup final and impressed with his pure pace, but there are plenty of other young players who have improved their reputation over the course of the competition.

Here are five of the U23 stars to impress in Russia.

5 Aleksandr Golovin [Russia]

Linked with Juventus and Chelsea before the tournament, Aleksandr Golovin quickly lived up to the hype.

The 21-year-old bossed Russia's midfield, notching two assists in four games. Golovin combined nimble passing with maturity and presence in Stanislav Cherchesov's surprise package and was the most vital competent of a team that very nearly reached the last four.

His performances in the first two group games were exceptional, and he helped guide Russia past Spain in one of the shock results of the tournament.

4 Francis Uzoho [Nigeria]

Whilst Jordan Pickford, Thibaut Courtois and Danijel Subasic were the most impressive goalkeepers, none are under the age of 23, thus they must give way to Nigeria's Francis Uzoho.

Only making his La Liga debut in 2017, the 19-year-old impressed between the sticks for the Super Eagles, despite their group stage exit, in what were seventh, eighth and ninth caps.

He tipped Lionel Messi's free kick onto the post against Argentina in the final group game, whilst making early saves against Iceland to become the second-youngest 'keeper to keep a World Cup clean sheet.

3 Ismaila Sarr [Senegal]

A good World Cup can do wonders for your career. By that logic, Ismaila Sarr should turn up at one of Europe's biggest clubs before long.

The Senegalese winger was the star of Aliou Cisse's talented team, a constant threat on the right-hand side as the Africans came within a whisker of a deserved qualification from the group stage.

Links with Liverpool should be no surprise; the Rennes man could be an even better purchase than his compatriot Sadio Mane.

2 Lucas Torreira [Uruguay]

The 22-year-old showed just why Arsenal made a move for him this summer, with a series of rambunctious displays for Uruguay.

The headline moment of his World Cup is unarguable; with Cristiano Ronaldo launching a counter-attack in the round of 16, all of his five-foot-six frame was thrown into a shoulder verge that sent the Portuguese flying.

Combining precise aggression with astute positioning and technique, Torreira proved in Russia that he could be a leader in London and Montevideo for the next decade.

1 Kylian Mbappe [France]

The second youngest player at the World Cup has lit it up like no other. Mbappe's astounding performance against Argentina in the last-16 was impressive enough, but his role in the 1-0 defeat of Belgium was joyous to behold.

As he tore repeatedly past Jan Vertonghen on the left, one has the sense of a beginning. Mbappe was a menace in every side he faced because of his electrifying pace and superb end product.

He became the youngest player since Pele to score in a World Cup final and it looks like the torch of football's future megastars has been passed to the young striker.

POLL: Which of these young players impressed you the most?

Aleksandr Golovin
Kylian Mbappe
Lucas Torreira
Francis Uzoho
Ismaila Sarr

I know Bobby Adekanye very well. From his days at PSV to Barcelona back to Eredivise because Barcelona broke UEFA rules and sanctioned for that, before he finally went to Liverpool.

He begged Manu Garba and Emmanuel Amuneke tire to play for Nigeria U17 team but he was snubbed on those two occasions before he agreed to play for Netherlands.

Anyway, he is still eligible to play for only Nigeria SE but he has to get a decent club if he can't make Liverpool’s first team.

Ighalo record for Nigeria is abysmal so it is not just about missing a few chances. He simply has not delivered.

In tight games, you only get a few chances. You need your striker to take it or you get punished.

I think the efficiency Amunike's team makes it easier for the players to assimilate with foreign clubs.

Official: Nigerian Striker Pens New Long-Term Deal With Liverpool

Published: July 17, 2018

Liverpool have confirmed on their official website that Nigeria U23 international Taiwo Awoniyi has penned a new long-term deal with the club.

The Reds offered the striker fresh terms on the back of his impressive performances last season for Royal Excel Mouscron, for whom he scored ten goals in 31 matches across all tournaments.

Speaking on the new deal, Awoniyi said to the club's official website : ''I feel excited and I feel very happy.

''It has been three years since I first came to Liverpool. So far, so good. The last year was the best for me, it has been an amazing year so far.

''I just have to keep working hard each year and I believe one day the dream will come true.

''Thanks to my family, who have been so supportive. I’m very glad and excited about this contract and hopefully to have an even better year.''

The 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner has spent the last three seasons on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen and Royal Excel Mouscron.

People just simply don't understand that playing the number 9 role is not just about scoring goals alone.

And Ighalo is not the only striker to miss a sitter, how many did Kane and Raheem miss ❓

I don't think a lot of them can even play football let alone know what they are talking about. They can say what they want but the template has been set in gold, Giroud is a world champion with 0 shots on target in 6 matches. Even Gabriel Jesus did not receive half of the flack Ighalo got and he had miss after miss no goals in 5 matches.
I just don't feel real fans should act like that because the players are human like us they can also make mistakes. I am just happy that the guy didn't allow all that rubbish to destroy his confidence. Who would want to play on a team that mistakes are not allowed? Nigeria is not Brazil or Germany!! We have no right to even think about asking for perfection.
