fantastic1: Unfortunately in this case scenario, options were limited. Fayose had played the Ekiti populace into a sort of psychological imprisonment. When he doles out monies to NRTWA and area boys, yet owes civil servant's salaries since December.......you cannot preach "don't buy votes" to people who are hungry. Let's assume APC did not use the strategy, was Fayose not guaranteed to buy votes? What about the story that Wike & Udom funded Ekiti Campaign?(Except Fayose is more wicked than imagined, where did he get monies to buy votes and could not have paid....even if his half-salary?) |

Kundagarten: Five thousand by 197k votes is not even up to a billion. .. and that is 'if' all the 197k was paid 5k. Secondly, both PDP and APC bribed. Biggest donors; PDP = Atiku, Wike, Kwankwaso APC = Tinubu, Ali Sherrif, Strange that no PDP governor even Wike have visited Fayose since then. But I saw Wike in Kwara dressed like Aboki. |

emperorzz: Why exactly are you ashamed of Ekiti people? What's you stake in Ekiti? Why take panadol for another man's headache....... ....but that aside, Ekiti people had been complaining, but Fayose turned a deaf hear. His political structures had been complaining but Fayose was adamant. It is disrespectful to the Ekiti people to think only Vote-buying undid Fayose. Me thinks vote-buying prevented Fayose's ace moves only 1 Like |

UnchangeableGod: You are contradicting yourself..you said vote buying did not start today and you are now saying the government in power is setting a bad precedent. The PDP started all this vote buying, so they have already set a bad precedent. I think the only solution is for the electoral act to be amended to include severe punishment for any party caught buying of votes 2 Likes |

Vote buying is part of our politics in Nigeria and nobody can stop it. Politicians in our country influence voters by going to them before and during elections. That was what brought Fayose too as the governor. All the major parties in Nigeria are going that. In Ekiti election PDP bought votes days before election and during the election . Voters received bank alerts on their phones bearing Ekiti government raging from 3k to 7k while some were even given cash to influence them during the election. APC too gave money to voters from 5lk to 10k. However Ekiti people collected money from the two parties but still voted according to their preferences and consciences.Vote buying is just a strategy which is not tenable at the tribunal because it cannot be substantiated. In view of this, Ekiti election is still free and fair for there are no criminal reports on the election that are peculiar to all the wards that can mar the results of the election. The police report is also a credit to the election . |

tech18:Sir, you are right. Money politics did not start today, not even in 1999 when the PDP came on board. But it has gotten to a new low level even now that the party in power is supposedly fighting corruption. Hasn't it? That is the dangerous precedent I am talking about. You are also right on the need for legislation recommending severe punishment for any party caught buying votes. But the question is, who will catch the vote buyers? The same security personnel that looked the other way for the national ruling party agents to buy votes freely while the opposition part agents are harassed and hounded? Who will prosecute the vote buyers? The same government whose party the buying and intimidation favours? The party in powerin Nigeria have demonstrated that they are selective in their justice system. So you will naturally expect them to focus their attention on their opponents caught while their own agents will continue to buy votes unhindered. They will tell you to wait until the opposition get to power (when they cannot match the party in power in vote buying?)in order to balance the equation. Where do we go from here? |

PHILipu1:Sir, sincerely speaking, is the president of Nigeria fighting corruption? If he were, I wouldn't be bothered. What he is obviously doing is using the fight against corruption to demonize and annihilate the opposition do as to pave way for his second term. The way he is going is not killing corruption. Not at all. He is intentionally or inadvertently encouraging the thieves in his party to steal as much as possible so long as they remain in the same page with him and for the thieves in the opposition to cross over and become saints. Examples abound of the allegedly corrupt people in his cabinet and party who are untouchables no matrer the evidence and noise against them. But same allegation against the opposition or critics of the government and the EFCC (which has shown to be an arm of the ruling party) swings into action and engages them in media trials. My candid opinion is that the president is not after eradicating corruption in Nigeria but simply making a name out of it and using it for political ends. God bless Nigeria. |

docadams:yes&no. voters have a duty 2 protect their votes & not allow politicians sway them with monetary inducements but d impression Nigerians got in 2015 is that Buhari is a man of integrity, corruption free&APC a party of progressive politicians who won't repeat d failings of APC. We aren't supposed 2b reading this in d dailys that APC bought votes. Its a dent on buhari & his so called anti corruption stance. Its his party& if they are buying votes, then they aren't better than PDP. |

RevenGeMission:Sir, this is the problem with our 'over educated' people. They box words and definitions to a corner. Sir, in case you don't know the expanded meaning of corruption, let me define and explain it. Corruption is the use of one's office, position or privileges to get undue advantage. The use of bribery, the security, intimidation and any other illegal means to favour your candidate is part of corruption. It is abuse of office. It is akin to a teacher using the privilege of awarding marks to ask for support, money or sex. Ditto the police and other public officers. Fighting the 'corrupt' in the opposition while the 'corrupt' in your party and cabinet are regarded as sacred cows is not even fighting corruption to start with. It is corruption of office in the first place. Stop shifting the goal post. Corruption is corruption. Vote buying is corruption. Arrest of opposition supporters in the eve of election to pave way for your candidate is part of abuse of power which is corruption. May God deliver us from hypocrites forming as saints and saviours. God bless Nigeria. |
