"An Mbombe 6 with battle damage, possibly hit with either a 23mm or anti-tank type weapon"

"Effect of 23-mm bullets on the hull of #LNA #Jordanian-made MBOMBE armored vehicle"

As I've stated earlier the hole in the hull looks a bit to big to be from a 14.5mm......

We can clearly see from this photo the hull of the Mbombe 6x6 could not stop the round.

The 14.5mm round tore through the hull if the Mbombe.

Not really sure about the 14.5mm though.. during the battle that caused the damage, anti-tank munitions and other heavy weaponry was used by both sides.

Libyan sources are saying its either a 23mm or RPG.

it's possibly an RPG

Almost definitely a RPG.
An HE 23mm would contact detonate its fuse on the cargo box lid blowing it off, but will not continue into the hull. A AP 23mm round would not leave burns that extensive on the surrounding area.

Those familiar with munition entry holes would know that light arms like a 14.7 mm or even a 23mm would leave a smaller and uniform entry hole with little external damage. If you look at the picture, you'll observe that there's clear splash damage at the windscreen and the surrounding area similar to an explosive burst.

The cargo box outer hull acted as a first impact point and absorbing the shaped charge, the inner hull damage is just an after effect from the Munroe effect

That is how it is done.

When terrorists attack you, you hit them back ten fold and let them contemplate about their life decisions.

You have to remember, the Egyptian Air Force has 600 fighter jets, includes 200+ F-16s (only the US and Turkey has more), 30+ MIG-29M's (MIG-35 without AESA radars) and 24 Rafale fighter jets.

You cannot compare the ability of the EAF response to these kind of attacks to any nation in Africa.

Henry240:

Irrespective of the shortcomings of the Nigerian military in the war against insurgency, people forget that the Nigerian military is deployed all over Africa.

In West and Central Africa, Nigerian troops are deployed in 8 countries. Cameroun, Chad, Niger, Mali, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Benin republic and Gambia.

In Gambia, Nigeria led that intervention. We paid for the operation, we deployed 1,200 Troops from the army, 400 Air Force QRF, 1 Navy Ship, SBS Special forces personnel and 6 aircrafts. The largest contributor.

So irrespective of our challenges, we would continue to be a military and political leader in Africa.

Look at the Nigerian Defence industry, it didn't exist in 2013, yet today we have become one of the leaders in military vehicle manufacturing in Africa.

We have made tremendous progress, well anyone who doubts can start of by naming the countries that have defeated Islamic insurgency in it's current form.

You forgot to mention Guinea Bissau and other ad hoc military staff & advisers scattered around the world.

Plus we are literally footing the bill of the MNJTF with HQ in Ndjamena, Chad and clandestine funding by the NIA of the intelligence agencies of most countries in the Sahel and Central Africa or whatever there is of it to track down ISWAP Jihadists headed to the NE.

We must not forget Idris Deby Itno is to all intents and purposes paid hard currency by Abuja to continue to play ball.

And yes no one country has comprehensively defeated terrorists today as we know them. The problem with the war in the North-East remains the brain thrust of the war from the C-in-C down to the planners at DHQ.

African armies don't usually have aviation wings. Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, RSA rotary aircrafts are used by the individual "airforces" of the respective countries. This trip to the US is very important.

If you're talking about the avaition wing of a developing country, then, yes we are. We're under-studying the Army Avaition Wing of the Colombian army.

SA FORCES REPEL REBEL ATTACKS IN DRC

"The SANDF's quick reaction force (QRF) was activated when the ADF launched an attack on a base in Ngite, north of the Beni airport.

Along the way, the QRF was ambushed by the ADF but managed to fight its way through to the Ngite base and joined the FARDC in their fight against the ADF. Under heavy attack from the QRF, the ADF forces suffered 23 fatalities.

John Stupart, director of African Defence Review, a state-of-conflict in Africa magazine, commented: “This is a great example of why our soldiers train so extensively before deployment to the DRC. Ambushes, and how to fight out of them in very trying circumstances, [are] a major feature of the kind of combat facing South African troops in the fight against ADF.”

During the fight, only one member of the SANDF sustained a wound to his right foot which was treated.

“The key aspect to this recent engagement seems to have been swift and decisive counter-attack by the South African QRF. The ability of officers and NCOs (non-commissioned officers) to quickly redirect fire against their ambushers and avoid soldiers freezing under fire is what saves lives. It does also help that these soldiers are near the end of their deployment and have months of operational experience under their belt. When they rotate back, they’ll be able to transfer those lessons learned to future deployments heading to the DRC,” says Stupart."

Another important aspect of this trip I hope would be lessons learned on Maintenance and Efficiency of Logistics.Something that in the past has been an Achilles heel.
Now that the 2019 Budget has finally been approved I hope the NA aviation wing will get their first set of Helios.

I still don't understand how you can properly aim with shades/glasses on unless of course the glasses are frame-less....this is literally a question for all Armies around the world.

Personally when shooting my bow the frame always got in my way when I was aiming!!

Pic: the glasses I'm referring to.
