Blindersoff: I doubt that insinuation that it can power 2 million homes. And it can't give 2.3 million volts either. That plant should not be sending out more than 132KV and your national grid is 330KV. From my mathematics, you're saying that each of those 2 million homes is using just 20 Watts (I assume that the plant is working at 100%; an impossible situation in plant operation. Normal working is 70% efficiency). 20 Watts is just for one energy-savers bulb. A typical Nigeria home uses 1.5KW and that facility can supply 18,667 homes. 1 Like |

charliboy654:what do you mean by a lot of nigerians? with the minimum wage at #30000 and with your likes crying out that nigerians are hungry and nigeria is the poverty capital of the world, you expect "a lot of nigerians" to pay #10000 for utility? if you pay #10000 for nepa, how much will you pay for rent, feeding, transport and other miscellanous expenses unknown? guy think well o! j |

Blindersoff: Stop misleading people. That's very incorrect. 40 MW is equivalent to energy produced by 400 car engines. Using USA average home consumption which is much higher than Nigeria, 40MW will only power 13200 homes for just 1 hour. You can go online to find average energy consumption by a Nigerian home to estimate how many homes this would power in Nigeria for 1 hour or a day. "A megawatt is a unit for measuring power that is equivalent to one million watts. One megawatt is equivalent to the energy produced by 10 automobile engines. A megawatt hour (Mwh) is equal to 1,000 Kilowatt hours (Kwh). It is equal to 1,000 kilowatts of electricity used continuously for one hour. It is about equivalent to the amount of electricity used by about 330 homes (USA) during one hour." https://www.cleanenergyauthority.com/solar-energy-resources/what-is-a-megawatt-and-a-megawatt-hour |

Blindersoff: Now I see where your error came from. You should have shown how you estimated this. For comparison, a USA home consume 10,972 KW/hr while a Nigerian home consume only 70 KW/hr. That one USA home use 156.74 fold of energy that one Nigerian home use. The 1MW would power 330 USA homes for one hour. So, 40MW would power 40MW x 330 homes = 13,200 USA homes for 1 hr. Since a Nigerian home use 156.74 fold less energy than a typical USA home, then: 13200 ÷ 156.74 = 2,056,005 Meaning that 40MW would power 2,056,005 Nigerian homes for just 1 hr. I criticized your number earlier but rechecked. I obtained number for USA home energy use online and from this site. https://www.cleanenergyauthority.com/solar-energy-resources/what-is-a-megawatt-and-a-megawatt-hour |

Thank you Bros for this simple analysis. Buharists will say anything to support this failed Govt. "I heard @AlikoDangote say that Egypt added 10,000 MW of electricity generation in 18 months. Nigeria has hardly added 2000 MW in 20 years despite spending more money. Instead, we have air polution and noise polution from generators, or darkness. Shouldn't we be very concerned about this?" - Pst. Sam Adeyemi @daystarNG theenchanter: |

charliboy654:you wen type this rubbish, how much you dey pay for nepa bill. for your information, nigerians under government employment (state and federal) is less than 5% of the population. those that earn #100,000 and above is less than 1%. combine those in private sector that earn above this figure, it is not up to 10%. so where does that "a lot of nigerians" come from? |

Blindersoff: Just bumped into your analysis and I just want to ask.. if 40mw can provide electricity for 2m homes according to you, and we have 200m Nigerians in population alongside 4000 megawatts currently.. dont you think at 40mw to 2m homes, we can aswell conclude 4000mw would equal 200m homes... with a 200m population, and a ratio of 3 individuals to a home.. we should be having more light than NASA... 1 Like |
