You are very wrong.

40 Megawatts equates 40000000 (40 million watts)

40 million watts converts to about 2.3million volts which is enough to power over 2 million homes. It is not a water project with 40mw as added advantage but a source of power to over 2million homes.
Apparently you don't know how Nigerian power supply works...trust me it would improve nothing

Oil dey your head

989900:
Good one . . . half bread is better than none.

40MW=40,000KW.

Which should power between 13,000-40,000 homes depending on consumption (assuming each home uses between 1KW-3KW, which of course would be determined by if it's urban or rural, commercial or residential, what time of the day or night).

Think of the power capacity like your "I pass my neighbor" = 1KW averagely, and your 2.5-3.5KW Elepaq or Sumec Firman generator.

40mw can't even power 100,000 homes. Electricity to household is calculated by kw/hr.

If 40mw can power 2m homes, then our miserable 4000mw should be able to power the whole country, which u already know the answer to. cheesy

As i said earlier, its more of a water or irrigation project rather than power, but the power is just an added advantage, but since most of nigerians are power-starved grin they think of power whenever the see any mw, even if the mw stands for "micro-wave" grin
Do you know that our miserly 4000 MW can actually power most homes in Nigeria if all the transmission infrastructure is there .
What we don't have is power for industries, especially heavy power consuming industries

You are so dumb but acting with so much gusto.

You even had to embolden your post for all of us to notice your 2m homes.

You're laughable

Atleast it can power the whole gombe state capital and some neighbouring LGAs. Not so different from NESCO in Plateau state.

how? U're more confused. Let me point ur error to u.

How many kw/h do u think a household would consume per annum?

Lets start from there.
That guy don't understand buying and selling of electricity
Me I don't know how his Kw change to volt.
He don't know that one kW/hr is one unit we buy in our electricity meter
That some homes use 60 units in a month.

Once again, the problem of Nigeria is Nigerians.

I know nothing about power but it's a shame that no-one here can make a valid point without insulting another.

We argue everything like say Na football. Why can't you just improve your point with a reference and allow novice like us to understand what is happening!!!

with an average of 5- 10 kw depending on stability and usage of power in most simple homes, thé 40,000kw or 40 MW May just be able to power about 2700 homes. not too bad or u ask me but far From what we need.

40MW can power 2 million homes? Are you alright?
That means 4,000MW can power 200 million homes. How many homes are in Nigeria with a population of just about 200 million? How come over 5,000MW isn't enough for Nigeria?
40MW can at best supply 40,000 homes.

na only u go school. 1MW to 400-1000homes..D 40MW will be able to power 36000 homes conveniently without power interruption. Anything more than that , a time table will have to b set for d distribution of d light among the homes.. Which is basically wat we doing rn. If u power 2million homes with 40MW, some houses will have to wait a year before it gets to there turn to have light.

My brother we the youths need to be active as not to allow politicians feeds ours with wrong information as truth, how can 40,000,000 wattage power 2 million homes? How many houses are in each Nigerian city?
1000 wattage is 1kilowatt, and 1megawatts is 1000 kilowatt now 1000kw times 40 megawatts give you 40,000kw that is how you get 40,000,000 wattage. Each flat not even house in Nigeria require not less than 10 kilowatts when you calculate simple thing we use. Deep freezer 1.5kw, 1.5 hp Ac 2kw, plasma 40 inches up 1kw, fans and others appliances in 3 rooms that make normal Nigerians flat. You see that about 7kw is consuming at once 24/7 light and by night the appliances and consumptions increases. So to my experience the 40MW can give 24/7 light to 4000 flats or Building without over load at average of 10kilowatt power supply to each flat. These 2 million houses is something hard to figure out with 40MW.
