You're absolutely right. A Nigerian by default lacks good etiquette.

And that includes the customers that are complaining. I believe that GIGM service has deteriorated but people also have to appreciate that Nigeria is a very difficult environment to do business. Especially transport business, with the extremely bad roads that we have. Sometimes I just wonder how these long distance transporters are able to stay in business over the years.

It's a people thing my broda, if you see what Nigerian workers do to peoples business you will weep. Same thing with what the drivers in BOLT/TAXIFY AND UBERS ARE DOING, CHEATING THE APPS PROVIDER BY DISRIPTING THE SYSTEM SO THAT THE APPS PROVIDER WILL NOT GET THIER PERCENTAGE.
Nigerians are wicked, they will sey no jobs but the few investors that provided jobs for them are been dealt with by this same Nigerians
Fact. And it's sad.

Must you guys go with gigm? Stopped using them about 2 years ago. Bus scheduled to leave by 7:45am from ticket, left by 7:15am without any prior notice to me. They never called to inform me. They sold out my ticket and refused to refund. I bid goodbye to them. There are better companies like GUO

But GIGM is far better than GUO.

I will say it the way it is....They are wonderful....They may have some lapses, but still one of the BEST in Nigeria.

Last year July, I travelled with Cross Country.

Cross Country isnt too bad BUT what I didn't like about them was that, they will stop at Sagamu and change the buses of passengers, after a long wait and not minding that some were going far.

So, I was to use God Is Good Motors to get back to base ( for the first time) and as I left my hotel thinking I had packed my phone in my bag, only to get to GIGM at the set time that morning and just realised my phone wasn't in my bag. Thank God I collected the hotel's customer care number. I wasn't even sure if my phone was in the hotel or deep down inside my totally filled up bag.

It was a kind security guy @GIGM that helped me use his phone to call the hotel, first time, to check my room for me and second time, to confirm if they had seen my phone which they told me :YES.

The customer care boss was kind to me and told me to go and explain to those announcing when the buses where leaving/sell tickets. I went there and the lady kindly waited for me to get to my hotel and come back, almost 25mins+.

Other commuters didn't know why the scheduled time for the 3rd bus was shifted for extra 1hr. They complained but I told few of them that GIGM must have good reason for that.

My experience with them was OK....in the bus, we were watching movies upon movies. I had a better experience with them than Cross Country..... Cross Country will go far in the business too if only they make some adjustments as they cover more routes.

Well you kinda gave a few reason why your Experience with them was a good one ..
they waited 25 min + for you at the Expense of other passengers and even shifted time 1hr.
The nice thing to do would have been to put you on the next bus and not Assume it’s ok to extend other passengers journey time .
Some could be on a lean time for business appointment travels etc.
Hopefully you would see the Point.

I've left gigm motors 3years ago when I realized it was all packaging, GUO is bae. No unnecessary crowd, Respect passengers, gives refreshments etc for now ooo
I have always looked forward to travelling with GUO, sadly they are not in Benin.

GIG is just overrated and unnecessarily expensive, maybe living in past glory.

Don't even try to pick up someone from their bus terminal in Utako. They will hurl curses at your grandfather and even your generation.

Yeah right. Why would they insult you because you are picking up a passenger? Maybe you were rude to them and they returned the favor.

Thank you my brother, these miscreants complaining here don't know the stress it takes to handle a transport business, one even complained that the drivers don't apply enough speed, while on this forum I have heard someone complain that the drivers ply with reckless speed. I used to be a very strong fan of GIG that i usually postpone my journey if all their buses are booked. But then, their attitude recently has been nothing to write home about.
I booked first bus for my mum from Ajah terminal because she needed to be home on time. It was meant to be a 6hrs journey max. The bus stayed at the park for an extra hour after the scheduled time for departure. As if that wasn't enough, after the bus had left the park and driven for more than 30mins, the captain turned back to Ajah roundabout to wait under the bridge for a passenger. My mum ended up getting home very late in the evening.

I was very pissed and reported to them on Instagram via DM but whoever is in charge lied that the bus was faulty and they captain simply returned to repair it. Repair bus under Ajah roundabout? What an annoying lie. I said why don't you confirm from the passengers in the bus if my claim is true or not? I got no reply anymore!

I have long ported to GUO. My first ride with them and i almost slapped myself for not using them all this while. Their park looks disorganized but at least my journey was smooth, bus was neat and we left the park on time as scheduled.

If GIGM can improve, i'll be back.

Lol you want to use GUO because it us a new company, wait till they get to the level GIGM is with crowd influx then you can compare. For now GIGM remains the first transport company in Nigeria for shuttle buses..

Wow!! It's surprising to hear these complaints. I thought GIGM is most reputable transportation company in Nigeria

They used to be good. But they slacked. I believe it is the tough business environment in Nigeria that is affecting them. I even wonder how these long distance transport companies survive with the terrible road conditions we have.

I think the family lost the original vision. The original vision defined modern day method of long haulage transportation as we observe these days.

Gone are the days when 100 was the speed limit. Gone are the days when captains were not permitted to drive off the proper roads. Gone are the days of captains who would never be rude to passengers. Gone are the days of ground staff who treated passengers politely. Utako terminal started getting dangerous for passengers way back in 2015 until some unscrupulous staff including the manager were sacked in one day. Gone are the days of very good looking buses that attracted passengers. Gone are the days of good looking terminals. Asaba terminal looks big outside but the inside is very dirty and full of cobwebs.

I think the problem has to do with poor growth plans. The management seems to have deluded themselves with the kind of passenger traffic experienced when the business was reorganised.

The workers are well paid and they have no reason for rudeness. Agbero mentality has crept into the heads of the ground staff. The field officers, as they are called, demand money from passengers before loading luggages.

The economy under the present regime has not helped with the cost of a Hiace bus approaching 25 million or over. How long will it take for them to make their turn over? It was much easier for them before now as they could purchase 200 buses in one order. These days GIGM does not purchase more than 20 buses in one order. Another challenge they have is their very porous accounting system. Some of their accountants have run away with very huge sums running into hundreds of millions.

It is not a hidden secret that the chairman ventured into the oil industry. The business has enterred into wrong hands. Advices and solution offered by the very senior drivers are not carried out. Irresponsible drivers have taken over. Very well trained drivers have moved to other companies where the packages are better.

On the part of the guests as passengers are called, there has to be some understanding. Some passengers frustrate other passengers and the captains. Some are very rude and unbearable. Some make very foolish demands. Some ask the captains to increase their speed and burst into arguments with other passengers because of that Some expect the captains to stop at any point that they need irrespective of the danger. Women drop sanitary pads and pampers inside the buses. Some stick chewing gums on the seats, etc. There need to be understanding too from the passengers.

GIGM needs to re strategise. There has to be an attitude change in the face of stiff competition provided by GUO, AKTC and others.

In all I'd rather travel GIGM than any other companies. I am certain that I journeys can end in terminals close to my location and I do not need to spend much on additional transport fare. I still remain a fan with a very strong hope and desire for change from the company.

Well balanced analysis. The typical Nigerian customer can be very unreasonable. They take the saying that Customer is King too far. You might want to send your objective critique to the management for their consideration. It might help them to improve on their service.

Boarded a bus from Lagos to Awka. Bus left Lagos around 8:00am. Bus that was suppose to leave by 6:45am. I got to Awka 9:00pm. Reason was the bus was too old and couldn't run fast. The driver is a talkative and comments and everything he see on the road. 3 weeks later I boarded GUO we left 7am we got to awka 3pm.

I've dealt with people from poorer African countries and trust me Nigerians have poor customer service especially in the public sector.

If they had delayed the departure time of the bus for someone else except you, would you have appreciated them and wrote this PR for them?

When they started with the rebranding, they were very good. I recall a scheduled trip to Abuja, a woman was bringing a small boy to her aunt who was travelling with us to go live with a relative in Abuja. At 7.30, the boy had not been brought and the personnel suggested she comes down and wait for the boy so the bus could leave or GiGM delivers him at their park in Abuja through their next bus so he could be picked up.

The bus left on time. But the last time I used them, they were grossly unprofessional. They stacked luggage on walkways, delayed departure times (and refused to give us snacks) and served us sick-looking biscuits and baby water.

What I am saying is that Nigerians are generally rude and can be unreasonable, including the customers that are complaining. Some of those complaining passengers also run businesses and are probably worse when it comes to customer service.
Of course the difficult business environment has something to do with the issue because many Nigerians get frustrated by the unnecessary challenges they have to go through every day. When somebody is frustrated, it can affect how you interact with your customers.
