I am not here to rain on your parade. However if we are talking about true soldier, the adherence to the military code of conduct should be forefront. It left much to desired since 2Lt. M. Lamurde's superior officers were not punished.

What would you wish they were punished for?

I guess it will take centuries for you to comprehend the making of a good soldier and essence of chain of command. If you have been on a parade ground, you should not have posed above question.

If the British television team was nowhere to be found, Adekunle would have given the Bachaman native a field promotion for the murder of Igbo chap.

Stop speculating. What he is reported doing is what is known....anything else is wishy-washy!

What is reported is that Scorpion was given the information by foreign journalist.

Have you stopped to ask why the video was given to Adekunle...and not someone else?

There were multitude officers in the field.....they brought the info with them to PH to give to Adekunle. The atrocity did not take place in PH. In fact Lamurde was not under the command of Scorpion.

Its because they know what the capacities are in the field....and who is trustworthy and credible to do the right thing....that person was Adekunle...not anyone else.

Abeg go get all Biafran veterans make dem gather for parade and give 21 gun salute to this hero. grin

If I were to be Adekunle, I would have kicked down the wall. I would have demoted and relived few subordinates of their ranks and commands. A things as gruesome as Lt. Lamurde's action and only to be informed by the a group of foreign journalists. No wonder Adekunle was reassigned as Wharf traffic officer. He lost his command. I knew you do not belong to this discussion when you wrote "In fact Lamurde was not under the command of Scorpion". You are laughable. Adekunle Benjamin was the GOC of 3MCDO and the incident reportedly took place at Ogwe therefore I guess Lt Lamurde's battalion could be part of George Innih's 17 Brigade.

1. Lamurde was not at the scene where the boy was captured. Even if he was Biafran soldier, he remained a prisoner of war at that moment he was captured and until his situation is disposed.

2. In following the chain of command orders the soldiers that captured him brought him to Lamurde.

3. The Army had a standing order for prisoners of war caught in field.

4. Upto his desk that had order was complied with.

5. Is it the order that prisoners of war would be executed? Perharps!

6. If so, Lamurde had followed the order.

7. The next issue is finding justice.
Who could the journalists trust to deliver justice for the boy?

8. The only man they knew would do the right thing - Adekunle!

9. So they travelled all way to PH to present the case.

10. Adekunle did not just execute Lamurde....NO, he set up inquiry and court martial. The court found Lamurde guilty, and Adekunle ordered his execution.

If you want to followup the chain of vommand you have a challenge, and that is to establish what the standing order was. It is either Lamurde's action was in compliance with orders from above, or he was out of line.

The court's judgement was good evidence, though you might disagree.

What you must not disagree with is that Scorpion was an exceptional officer, non-corrupt and honorable...the one trusted to do the right thing in a field of compromised officers. A true soldier, a Nigerian hero and one who delivered justice to Biafrans.

I call on you to gather your veterans together for a 21 gun salute to Scorpion....and he must wear a Biafran medal of honor for the good cause of humanity, fairness and justice. Do you not agree with me? grin

MetaPhysical, for the old pal sake, I can say you are better than the above crap. You have previously stated that 2nd Lt. Lamurde was not under the command of Adekunle. I guess Ogwe which is near to Obehie in Ukwa West LGA was under 1st Division sector under Col Shuwa instead of 3MCDO under Adekunle. In addition, you must understand that under army divisional level, chain of command does not terminate at the platoon commander. In fact, it does not end at the brigade level. 2nd Lt M. Lamurde should have reported the capture of enemy fighter to his company's commander who would take it up the chain of command. From the above crap, it is safe to say you actually know nothing about the military.

To the best of my knowledge the only GOC of 2nd Division was Lt Col Murtala Mohammed. Obasanjo was 2IC (rear) in 2nd Div. Even 2IC is too big a post, he might have been the adjutant-general.

I do not deal with craps written on Wiki. Obasanjo never attended any Engineering school, be it military or civilian. He might attended few training in military school and such could not confer the honor of Engineer on him. I know he was trained as mechanic in India.

honestly what you know or don't know isn't my concern I stated facts here you should have had the decency of fact checking before saying I am telling lies, for your info I can take you to where he was quartered in Odogbo barrack ojo Ibadan back then... and the verified fact about him being an engineer that you tried to undermine is very tasteless and ridiculous

Obasanjo himself even acknowledge being an engineer in the Army on several interviews on of them is the interview with Teju Baby Face show where he spoke extensively about his life and time in jail, and how he escaped abacha's poison through his doctors from Oyo .. this are all on youtube

so before you go saying what you don't know try research

I guess what you termed 2nd division Odogbo Ibadan was actually Ibadan Garrison Organization. Actually 2nd Div. grew from Ibadan Garrison Organization. Even though the bulk of soldiers that formed 2nd Div. came from Ibadan Garrison Organization, Obasanjo remained the commander of the Ibadan Garrison Organization until he was appointed as GOC 3MCDO to replace Benjamin Adekunle.

I might have been born in Nigeria but I do not go by Nigeria. In military parlance, there is a marked difference between a commander of Ibadan Garrison Organization and 2nd Div. Obasanjo was never a GOC of 2nd Division of Nigerian army during the war. Such honor goes to Murtala Mohammed, Ibrahim Haruna and Gibson Jalo. In fact, it was Col Olawole Rotimi that replaced Obasanjo as the commander of Ibadan Garrison Organization when Obasanjo was appointed GOC 3MCDO.

Lies!!

Adekunle was a war criminal that specialized in killing civilians.

He was later arrested by Obasanjo for the Asaba massacre.

Adekunle was tried on the grounds that he could not kill a single biafran soldier but specialized in killing civilians.

Adekunle was stopped at Asaba while he tried to cross into onitsha which was his first war encounter and was dealt a huge blow.

Adekunle was dishonorably discharged and left to rot away.

Even at his death, no Nigerian leader/representative attended the war criminal’s burial.

Don’t distort the truth to support your narratives.

The records are there for everyone to see!!!

Unfortunately, Ibadan was and is not a military formation. Ibadan is a city. In line with military parlance, Garrison Organizations do not have commanders designated as GOC. As of this stage, you can be able to separate chaffs from the seeds. If you have known Obasanjo as GOC in Ibadan, it was a beer parlor thing among idle civilians in Ibadan. The reality remains that Obasanjo was just a commander of Military Garrison Organization based in Ibadan.

Owerri was captured but sadly, they couldn’t hold on to the place after capture. And by any standard, Utuk was an extraordinarily soldier. He was beleaguered by Biafran soldiers for good five months and he still didn’t surrender. In April of 1969, he broke out of owerri with all his soldiers, dead deputy, all wounded soldiers, all pows and his equipment. It was an extraordinarily move considering the fact that he was surrounded by Biafran soldiers for 5 months without any help or supply from the 3mcdo HQ.

you do understand Obasanjo is a military engineer just like Buhari is a transport and logistic specialist and this men were trained in the best military college in UK, in case you also dont know this about Obasanjo, has a federal commissioner of works he built many standard roads, on of them being the current west african road from lagos to benin and the rest of west africa

kindly read about obasanjo's victory, how hs team dislodged Ojukwus macinery and capture his makeshift refinery in portharcourt subsequently weakening ojukwus men hence their retreat

Your knowledge of the civil war is very poor and that is why you’ve been arguing blindly all over the thread. Yes, Obasanjo was in the engineering Corp of the army but he was an incompetent engineer who couldn’t blow up the ore bridge. It was a certain Mr. Akande from the public works dept, Ibadan that blew up the bridge.

Obasanjo was also not a GOC before he was drafted to the 3mcdo. He was a garrison commander in Ibadan. A garrison commander is not a GOC.

Portharcourt was captured before Obasanjo was drafted to the war front. Ayo Ariyo, Alabi Isama and Alani Akinrinade led the 30 days operation to capture PH from calabar under the command of Brigadier Adekunle.
