Offices in the U.S. Capitol have been locked down after reports of gunshots being fired outside the building.

U.S. Capitol Police broadcast an alert for people working in the U.S. Capitol complex to remain locked in their offices. “There is a report of gunfire on Capitol hill,” the alert being broadcast on loudspeaker said. “Shelter in place.”

It wasn’t immediately clear whether or where the shots occurred or whether there were any injuries.

Access Bank website has been adjudged overall winner of the 2013 edition of the Web-Jurist ‘Website Effectiveness Award’ conducted by Philips Consulting. Justifying the Bank’s emergence as the Overall winner in the Banks category, a Web- Jurist report stated that the Bank has been consistent in the quality of service delivery via its website”.

The Bank’s performance is an improvement over last year’s when it was rated 3rd behind GT and Zenith Banks respectively. Similarly, this feat is a validation of Access Bank’s industry leadership in e-payment and compliance with best practice which requires provision of accurate, relevant and timely information on organisational websites at all times.

Analysing the Web-Jurist research report, Access Bank website was adjudged best in the technical aspects which included Navigation, Functionality and Security. Also the website was declared winner in the Website Content that had metrics such as Accuracy and Presentation. The awards came on the heels of the unveiling of the Bank’s re-vamped website which significantly enhanced its aesthetics and improved its functionality for improved customer experience.

Industry observers have described the Bank’s emergence as the overall winner of the Web- Jurist Award as a reward for its investment in online security management, citing its pioneering role as the first Nigerian Bank in West Africa to obtain the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard Certification (PCIDSS) and its certification by the British Standard Institute with the ISO 27001 award - a global standard for information security management and Process efficiency.
Similarly, an international Web Analyst who had described Access Bank’s certification by the British Standard Institute as a tacit endorsement of the safety of transaction on its platforms and information assets which guarantees the highest level of security for customers’ details and information, said the Bank’s emergence as a overall winner in the Banks category affirms the credibility of the selection process.

The Web-Jurist award is the result of extensive survey conducted into website practices and effectiveness. It aims to identify the strength and weaknesses of websites, as a business platform in the digital world, and also determine the extent to which a website, being a tool in company’s e-business initiative, is successful in achieving the essence of its e-business strategy. The awards, which commenced in 2001, evaluate the effectiveness and performance of Nigerian websites based on set criteria agreed by e-business experts from Philips Consulting.

In the heat of the moment, an arguing Chinese couple almost fell to their death. Thankfully, the argument wasn’t the deal breaker for them. If anything, it definitely brought them closer. Hit the jump and check out the video.

While arguing, the woman slipped while sitting on the balcony almost falling four floors. Thankfully, her boyfriend wasn’t as mad during her slip as he was during the argument. Once he noticed that she was about to fall, he rushed and grabbed a hold of her, but almost went down too. That’s when a neighbor grabbed his legs while another called for the fire department and 20 minutes later, help had arrived.

In a bid to strengthen its dominance of international money transfer and give its customers wide range of options, First Bank of Nigeria Limited (FirstBank) has partnered with Trans-Fast Remittance LLC, a global money transfer company and owner of Trans-Fast money transfer brand, to provide money transfer services to families and friends through the over 700 branches of the Bank in Nigeria. The new partnership, brings to four the number of international money transfer platforms offered by the Bank. Others include Western Union money transfer, MoneyGram and Ria money transfer.

According to the new agreement signed in Lagos between executives of FirstBank and Trans-Fast Remittance, Trans-Fast, which has over 20 years’ experience in money transfer and operations in over 90 countries will make its over 200,000 global network available for FirstBank customers to transfer money directly via the internet while also allowing beneficiaries of international money transfer get money directly into their accounts in any currency through any of the FirstBank branches nationwide.

According to Head, Marketing & Corporate Communication FirstBank, Mrs. Folake Ani-Mumuney, with the Trans-Fast platform, customers will have the options of sending money directly to the receivers account, online transfers as well as cash pick-up at any of the FirstBank branches, adding that Trans-Fast is currently live on www.firstbankdiaspora.com and customers can visit this site and initiate the money transfer process by following the steps. “Money Transfer can be done in Euro, GBP, USD or NGN, while third party transfers can also be done to other bank accounts”, she added.

Samish Kumar, CEO of Trans-Fast Remittance, LLC said the partnership with FirstBank joins two industry leaders with mutually complimentary and formidable qualities that will markedly enhance the quality of services provided to Nigerian remitters around the world.

Incredibly talented Saxophonist, Adeyemi Adeosun, popularly known as Yemi Sax and his lover, Shola Durojaiye tied the knots at a grand white wedding in Lagos. The wedding was held at Xovar Lounge, behind Bespoke Centre Lagos on Saturday 14th, July 2013.

It is interesting to note that the wedding takes place exactly a year after Yemi and Shola began to date. Teju Babyface was the Master of Ceremony of the really colourful wedding.

Although D’banj’s DKM Concert didn’t begin as scheduled due to the late arrival of guests, it turned out to be a night to remember. The event, at Eko Hotel & Suites on June 23, 2013, was scheduled to start around the same time the Nigeria-Spain match at the FIFA Confederations Tournament was being played. With stellar performances from Samklef, DRB Lasgidi, Sean Tizzle, Fally Ipupa, Mafikizolo from South Africa, Olamide, Kaywsitch and rapper 2chainz and a beautiful opening from Tolu Oniru – Toolz and real housewives’ Kenya Moore, it was all worth it at the end.
