This is a great piece to help a lot lost in the wind of unpredictable and harsh economic climes in our country today.

Personally, I have hope and am especially exploring Upwork on how I can explore my skills and earn income.

This post is additional encouragement for me (especially the "How to get started and establish on Upwork"wink.

I'm also inspired by Latifat that earns at least $300 a month without leaving her house.

This post and thread really helped me as it coincided with a period I was looking for resources to put together for my property in Enugu for Airbnb.

I strongly feel, like every other technology, that with time, we will overcome all these teething issues and thrive as we embrace the reality of our today's digital world.

Like the recent review postulated, the Airbnb has the potential to revolutionize the real estate industry.

I feel it's just a matter of time.

Webmasters / Re: Syskay No Longer Offers N2,500 Hosting Plan. Any Cheap Alternative? by Sylvanusnwafor(m): 7:07am On Apr 10, 2020
Hey Everyone,
Trust y'all safe?

When I started out with learning how to create websites, I used foreign hosts through Yahoo! Small Business then.

It was great using their platform for hosting and creating my first ever website at the same time.

But then, something happened...

I encountered a challenge with my website.

I quickly sent messages across all their contact platforms...all to no avail.

Eventually, I lost my first website on that platform due to poor response + it being pretty expensive.

From then on, I resolved to use a local hosting company in Nigeria.

Ever since, I've had no issue. Even when any crops up, it is swiftly attended to.

I encourage you to use our local host.

Also, I did a simple guide on how you can create a website with a reliable Nigerian hosting company.

Check the article here.

Designing A Website: For Beginners 2020

I want to quickly address some concerns in this thread.

1. HTML is the basis, foundation on which web pages are built.

Taking another route, your knowledge of HTML, CSS basics gives you a strong foundation of other web related technologies you may want to learn in the future.

You cannot throw its importance away.

2. CMS: Content Management System helps you build websites, web apps without touching code.

True.

But I tell you this: If you're only knowledgeable in this area, you are limited.

Or put another way, there's a limit to your work and explorations.

Additionally, if a challenge crops up while you're working, you could be in deep sh*t, if you don't understand basic codes (which includes HTML).

3. For the Newbie, I propose you strike a balance by learning basics of HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, PHP (which I call the manual method) and CMS (which I term the automatic method)

Webmasters / Re: The Truths About Web Designing/Development Business in Nigeria by Sylvanusnwafor(m): 8:50pm On Feb 06, 2017
Transiting from Graphic to Web design for me was quite a huge shift.

Probably because I spent more of my career in the graphic allied field in Nigeria or because the WEB had to do with CODES I kinda hated.

But then being a lover of design and anything that has aesthetics, I was always ready to go the long haul
for what I loved.

I remember years ago after I did my internship spending more of my time in the Integrate Graphic Product Unit
of a One-Stop Print Shop in Lagos that my former Unit Head told me that if I still loved design, I should go learn web.

Abeg I said in my mind!

But later on I developed love for web design (being a design lover already).

Much of the time then, I learnt on my own: downloading tutorials and reading my head HOT!

Sometimes getting even more confused than I thought I was learning anything or making tangible progress.
But then I remained determined to know more regardless of the challenges before me.

Some years later I was fortunate to go for some courses that included web design.
This was sponsored by a company I worked with also in Lagos, Nigeria.

We were taught the basics of web design and thereafter interest wouldn't allow me rest.

I developed myself.

I practiced a lot and wasn't most times happy with the way my work was turning out.

I knew I could do it better.

That quest I kept going for till now that my work proves itself.

Web design and development business in Nigeria no doubt is growing.

And of course it will continue to grow so much as the Nigerian Naira loses value to the USD (as at time of writing this it is N500/$1).

But then a warning comes to mind for folks that are not sincerely passionate about the business.

Some are all out to make money and not to serve and satisfy the customer.

My fear also dwells around creativity.

INDEED it is difficult these days to be creative when you have a thousand and one templates, themes, DIY, CMS etc at your disposal

But then, the creative mind will always find expression.

Something must always stand you out of the crowd.

Now it's your responsibility to find that thing.

I wish you success in your web design & development career path.
Pets / Re: How To Make Your Dog More Aggressive by Sylvanusnwafor(m): 2:48pm On Dec 05, 2016
WOW! This is quite revealing.

From attempting to making a dog aggressive and finally killing it's innate potential or nature.

I understand some breeds of dogs come with their own character traits.

My take here is to strike a balance and TEST what works best for your dog.

My dog is behaving very sheepish and I don't like it.

I'm going to try what works best from the list above and stick with what makes her more confident.

I feel if you build a dog's confidence, it should decide on when to be aggressive or not.
So there are no fears of any form of extremity in any case.

Thanks for all the useful contributions.

Webmasters / Re: Web Designing With Corel Draw by Sylvanusnwafor(m): 10:10am On Dec 18, 2013
Coreldraw in Nigeria is very popular. A lot of graphic, web designers use it.

I have used the world's most popular softwares for design but I tell you,

Coreldraw presents the best flexibility even for creating your visuals for web and mobile devices.

It is a very strong vector graphic editor compared to Illustrator and even Fireworks.

I am talking practically here. This is what I have used and now after over two decades (20years) working as a designer

I prefer Coreldraw. I even did a book on how you can design great websites with Coreldraw.

If you are interested, you can check it out now!
