Nairaland / General / How Dogara, Saraki, Hurt Nigerians Thinking It Was Me by theJournalng(m): 5:17pm On May 28, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that in terms of patriotism, he had rated the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara below par.

The President who said he had already passed a vote of no confidence on the duo who are leaders of the National Assembly, said they hurt Nigerians by stalling the enactment of the 2019 budget.

President Buhari said this in an interview broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, on Monday night.

The President revealed that he had relayed his reservations to the legislative leaders as he appended his signature to the bill Monday morning.

According to Buhari: “I think a culture was developed in the National Assembly that they should dictate the terms, which was wrong. It is the executive that dictates the terms and takes it before the legislature. It (the legislature) will examine it and agree or disagree with it.

“But when they go around posing that they are the government and not the executive, then that’s the problem. I felt and I spoke personally to the Senate President, Saraki, and the leader of the House, Dogara. They could not deny it.

“I asked them how they felt to hold the country at ransom for seven months without passing a budget. Unfortunately, they were not hurting me; they were hurting the country. So, really, in terms of patriotism, I think I rated them very low indeed. . source; journal.ng . https://journal.ng/2019/05/28/how-dogara-saraki-hurt-nigerians-thinking-it-was-me/
Politics / 2019: Why Imo People Will Miss Me by theJournalng(m): 8:30am On Sep 03, 2018
The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has stated reasons why he would be missed by the people of the state when he vacates office next year.

The governor said he had done substantially for his people that they will miss him when he hands over in 2019.

The Governor listed free and qualitative education programme in the State and more than 1000 visible projects as some of the reasons he won’t be forgotten in a hurry.

Okorocha said the Imo people will certainly look over their shoulders and admire his 8 years in office.

Okorocha said he has strategically positioned the state for the better after acquiring all the valuable assets sold off by the previous administrations in the state.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, the Governor said, “The free education programme in the State which some opponents of the government had tried to discredit when it was introduced has yielded obvious remarkable results.

“And aside the School enrolment in the State snowballing from 381,000 in 2011 to more than One million in 2017, the State has continued to lead in JAMB applications for the Seventh time now.

“The State has also continued to do very well in WAEC Exams. For instance, in the 2018 Senior School Certificate Exam (SSCE), the State came fifth out of the Thirty-Six States in the Country and the Federal Capital Territory.“

Politics / Why Nigeria Cannot Survive Another Four Years Under Buhari – PDP by theJournalng(m): 7:34am On Sep 03, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has disclosed why Nigeria will collapse if the incumbent government is handed another term in office by the electorate.

PDP said Buhari “squandered” Nigeria’s opportunity to benefit from German Chancellor, Angela Merkel during her visit to the country.

A statement by PDP’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan said Buhari could not clearly expressed himself while receiving economic proposals by Merkel.

PDP lamented that in, “Another public display of incompetence, President Buhari could not articulate any strong response to the economic proposals brought by the German leader, thereby squandering our nations opportunity of benefiting from her visit.

The statement reads partly: “It has, therefore, become clearer that there is no way our nation can survive another four years under a leadership such as the Buhari-led APC administration.

“The determination by Nigerians to rally on the platform of the repositioned PDP to throw up a competent President to effectively pilot the affairs of our nation, come 2019.”

Nairaland / General / Theresa May To Visit Nigeria On Wednesday by theJournalng(m): 2:15pm On Aug 28, 2018
British Prime Minister, Theresa May, will on Wednesday visit Nigeria and two other African nations.

A statement by the UK government says May will meet with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja and also spend some time in Lagos, where she is expected to visit victims of modern slavery.

She would also visit Kenya and South Africa.

May will be joined by a business delegation made up of 29 representatives from UK business.

“The Prime Minister’s central message will be focused on a renewed partnership between the UK and Africa, which will seek to maximise shared opportunities and tackle common challenges in a continent that is growing at a rapid pace – from the Sahara to South Africa,” the UK government said in a statement.

“As Africa seeks to meet the needs of its growing population the visit will also emphasise that it is in the world’s interest to help secure African stability, jobs and growth because conflict, poor work prospects and economic instability will continue to encourage migration and dangerous journeys to Europe.

“Because nations cannot prosper without security, the prime minister will also use the visit to announce further support to tackle instability across the region.”

May said she is proud to be the leader of the delegation to Africa, expressing her joy over being the first British Prime Minister to visit Kenya in 30 years.

“Africa stands right on the cusp of playing a transformative role in the global economy, and as longstanding partners this trip is a unique opportunity at a unique time for the UK to set out our ambition to work even closer together,” she was quoted to have said.

“A more prosperous, growing and trading Africa is in all of our interests and its incredible potential will only be realised through a concerted partnership between governments, global institutions and business.

“As we prepare to leave the European Union, now is the time for the UK to deepen and strengthen its global partnerships. This week I am looking forward to discussing how we can do that alongside Africa to help deliver important investment and jobs as well as continue to work together to maintain stability and security.”

Politics / There Are Plans To Assasinate Me, One Of My Aides – Gov. Ortom by theJournalng(m): 9:43pm On Aug 25, 2018
The Governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom, yesterday claimed his life and those of his security aides are being threatened.

Governor Ortom, while speaking at an interactive session between the church, traditional institution and other stakeholders on peaceful elections in 2019, said he got intelligence reports that his convoy would be attacked on his way to Abuja.

The Governor also disclosed that there were plans of would be attackers to abduct and torture one of his security aides before brutally killing him for daring to speak out against the invasion of communities in Benue State where massive killings were carried out.

According to him, he sometimes takes chartered flights to Abuja after receiving the assassination report. Noting that such flights have been stopped from landing at Markudi Airport.

Ortom said he was confident that God would show him a way out of the situation if he had to travel out of the state.

At the event, which was organised by the Makurdi Diocese of the Catholic Church and held at Pope John Paull II Pastoral Centre in Makurdi, the governor listed eradication of nationwide violence as well as arrest and prosecution of its perpetrators as the recipe for peaceful elections in 2019.

He expressed worries that individuals and groups known to have been involved in violent acts were not being punished even when they sponsor large scale violence involving destruction of property, arson and killing of about 20,000 people in 19 states of the federation.

Ortom said, “If those that perpetuate violence, like armed herdsmen, are arrested, prosecuted, jailed or appropriate sanctions are applied on them, it will serve as deterrence for those contemplating violence in the future.”

“Nigerians should use the 2019 elections to demand an end to the Fulani herdsmen’s aggravated violence.”

“The Federal Government must stem the tide of violence and address the root causes of threats to elections in some states.”

“Actors like the INEC, police, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organisations (CBOs), labour unions, religious and traditional leaders, social and mass media must not relent in promoting and advocating for peace and community values that would strengthen national unity,” he said.

He maintained that the main threat to peaceful election in 2019 is the incessant and devastating attacks by herdsmen in 14 states.

Governor Ortom, while quoting reports from the media, said between January and March 2018, at least 1,351 people were killed by herdsmen, Boko Haram and other forms of insurgencies.

Nairaland / General / One Sure Way To Defeat Buhari In 2019 – Ahmed Makarfi by theJournalng(m): 8:14pm On Aug 25, 2018
Ahmed Makarfi, A presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged the PDP to field a strong candidate if it must defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Makarfi disclosed that Buhari still commands a very strong followership in the northern region which has highest number of voters in the country.

Makarfi said that PDP should work on the psychology of voters in the north as many of them “still retain blind followership for Buhari.”

He promised to tackle insurgency, insecurity, unemployment, herdsmen killings, epileptic power supply, infrastructural challenges as well as other challenges in the country. “If we want to win the election, we must not lose the north and we should give them the candidate they trust in the north.

“The problem for us winning is the North; the current president comes from there and there is blind followership there. If we want to win, we should field a strong candidate from there. “We must work on the psychology of the Buhari’s sentimental followers in the north and change their mind towards us.”

“First of all is the restructure of the country to make it good for everybody, restructuring of the security and creation of jobs and infrastructure development in all respects and promoting the private sector so that it can become effective employer of labour.
“We have also looked at some issues protocol that we have which have negative impact in the country.

“Any issue of protocol that doesn’t serve national interest in terms of security we will dialogue with other country where they have got it right and restructure ours.

“I have been tested and proven myself as governor of Kaduna state as selected chairman of Senate committee finance, my records are there and as party chairman of PDP when people are not given the chance to make the party to survive.”

“It will be difficult to bribe the entire members of the party at any level. So an aspirant does not need to have so much millions to emerge as candidate. What needs to be done is for the aspirants to mobilise the grassroots and convince them to vote for him or her.

“The direct primary is a popularity contest because the people know who they want.”

It was earlier reported that the All Progressive Congresss can now accomodate more members, as the National Working Committee of the party requested an immediate recommencement of the Nationwide Membership Registration across all 36 States.

Albert, who is the only PDP senator left in Akwa Ibom, said he was ready to stand by the party through which he won the election, adding that if similar situation presented itself in future, he would still remain with the party.

“Today, I’ve woken up to see I’ve been charged to court. I don’t have any business there. My lawyers are ready. But whatever case you are seeing is orchestrated by someone in this state to coerce me into the APC. You can’t tell me if I jump over to APC, all charges will be dropped.”

Education / NANS To Stage 5-day Protest In Abuja On August 27 by theJournalng(m): 1:32pm On Aug 22, 2018
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), on Wednesday, handed out a notice of mass actions over the prolonged crisis between the Council of Legal Education, CLE, and National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, following the denial of admission of NOUN graduates to Law School.

NANS said it will begin the action in the Federal Capital Territory from the 27th to 31st August, by shutting down Abuja, the Nation’s capital.

Mr Taiwo Bamigbade, the association’s Nation Vice President of External Affairs, said, “We have decided that enough is enough and shall inevitably shut down the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, against any public activities taking place in the period.”

The association, said the crisis has prevented law graduates of the university from getting admitted into the Nigerian Law School for more than five years now.

According to Bamigbade, the protest would commence on August 27 and would be in two phases. He also stated that the association wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari before now, notifying him of the crisis.

We recall that on May 23, the association had earlier issued a three month ultimatum to the Federal Government to admit the Law graduates from NOUN into the Nigerian Law School.

The union said “it amounts to fraud, deceit, discrimination and mischief against the Nigerian students and inhumanity to vulnerable citizens, especially the youths to formally admit, graduate and issue them deficient certificates after several years of study despite financial implication.”

The Vice President of NANS, said that the first phase of the protest would be held for 5 days and will take place in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, while the second phase will take place on October 1st.

Recalling the judgment of Justice Hilary Oshomah of the Federal High Court, Port-Harcourt, Rivers, on October 4 , 2017, which asked the National Universities Commission (NUC), Council of Legal Education (CLE) and the Federal Ministry of Education to resolve the crisis.

However, the decision of the court did not go down well with the NOUN, Law Graduates Forum, which stated that the court unconsciously renounced its jurisdiction on all academic and students’ matters.

Politics / Home POLITICS We Want Buhari To Continue Beyond 2019 – Gov. Bello POLITICS by theJournalng(m): 1:15pm On Aug 18, 2018
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has said that the decision of “patriotic Nigerians” to see Buhari’s Presidency continue beyond 2019 was informed by a sincere desire for good governance and transparency to be rooted in Nigeria.

Governor Bello, who said this on Saturday during a question and answer section with journalists, said the President had salvaged the nation from it’s economic woes occasioned by “deep stealing by the previous administrations in the country”.

“As far as we know, Nigerians are happy and satisfied with the performance of Mr. President. He is honest man who is trusted by the international community to take Nigeria to the promise land and will therefore be re-elected next year by the masses of this great nation.

“It is unfortunate that the opposition was doing everything to bring the nation down to justify their desperation to return to power. When a child defecate on a chair, it is expected that the chair will be cleaned and allowed to dry before the child can sit on it again. The Nigerian system is undergoing serious cleansing process and Mr President should be allowed to conclude his Nigerian rebirth Agenda.

“Those who love Nigeria and the strides of Mr President want him to continue the rebuilding process. Our nation was a subject of international scorn for corruption and insensitivity to the plight of the masses. Today, the respect is back because of the personality of Mr President.

“Our economy is looking up and it is trickling down to the states. Kogi State has keyed into the agricultural policies of the Federal Government to create more jobs and wealth. Our youth and vibrant populace now see a career in agriculture.

“The Federal Government has been very supportive of our war against criminality in the state; the same way the war against insurgency has been waged with serious mindedness.

“Nigerians surely do no want the gains of this administration reversed”.

On the recent crisis ravaging the National Assembly over calls on Senate Bukola Saraki to relinquish his position, the governor said he has nothing to say on the issue since the National Chairman of the party had stated the party’s position.

“Our National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has stated the position of the party. I have nothing more to say about it.

“What I will just tell Nigerians is that it is not enough to have President Muhammadu Buhari. They must also strive to vote equally patriotic Nigerians into the National Assembly to work with Mr President to make Nigeria great. We must have a National Assembly that has the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians at heart”.

Politics / 2019 Election Won’t Be Postponed – INEC by theJournalng(m): 11:35am On Aug 18, 2018
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, on Friday, affirmed that the 2019 presidential elections won’t be postponed.

Yakubu during his chat with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said, “I have said this over and over again, there are no conditions under which elections should be postponed, under section 26 of the Electoral Act, the date is formed and fixed is February 16, 2019.”

“We issued the timetable way in advance for the very first time in the history of our nation, citizens of Nigeria know when elections will take place one year in advance. It has never happen before.”

“Secondly, also for the very first time in the history of our country, that citizens know the budget of the electoral commission, that budget has never been defended before the National Assembly, as citizens know line by line how much the Commission proposed, what the money is going to be spent on, I think I am very happy with this process.”

“About the virement, well, we have made the clarification that the National Assembly asked for and I am happy that the National Assembly and the two committees on INEC expressed satisfaction on the clarification that we made for the matter of appropriation. So we look forward to hearing what the National Assembly will say.”

According to the Yakubu, INEC requested for N189.2 billion, which he claimed is what the executive proposed to the National Assembly.

“So there are no discrepancies in the figures at all,” the commission chairman added.

Politics / Buhari Will Win In Sokoto, Bauchi And Kano, Even On Sick Bed – Amaechi by theJournalng(m): 4:20pm On Jul 28, 2018
Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Friday claimed that the governors of Sokoto and Kwara states, Aminu Tambuwal and Abdulfatah Ahmed respectively, will exit the All Progressives Congress.

Amaechi also said Tambuwal had intentions of running for the presidential seat in 2019 and that President Muhammadu Buhari would win in Sokoto, Kano and Bauchi states in the 2019 general elections even if he (Buhari) is taken to the states “on a sick bed”.

Amaechi told newsmen that although he was quite reserved about speaking on politics, he was certain that inspite of the defections by APC members at the National Assembly, the party would be on the side of victory come 2019.

When told that considering the defection saga, the APC’s collapse is imminent, the minister said : “That’s according to you. Look, you are not a politician so you can’t be commenting on what you don’t know. In fact let’s look at it. Unfortunately I don’t want to speak about this but you are putting me under pressure.

“However, no matter what you do, the Governor of Sokoto will leave naturally. He has ambition to be president. If you take a chicken to him he will still go. The same with Kwara. These are people you expect that they will leave.”

He said, “On those that defected at the House of Representatives and Senate, where do they come from? They come from areas that the President is comfortable. Do you honestly believe that the President will lose election in Sokoto? We are not God, but it’s one of his comfort zones.

“If you bring the President on a sick bed to Bauchi and Kano, he will win and he has never lost election in Bauchi. But that is a bit arrogant on our side; we should not underestimate them.

“I am not God. It is only God who can say the APC will win or not. But what is clear is that if you remove the God element, I think we are prepared to coast to victory because Nigerians will certainly reject a second looting. Nigeria can’t survive a second looting. Never!”

He said that the bottleneck in declaring the Presidential flagbearer of the opposition party six months to the election would be to the advantage of the ruling party.

“In our time, it was clear who would be the APC candidate one year ahead of time,” he added.

Education / JAMB To Release 1.3 Million UTME Results Today by theJournalng(m): 10:15am On Mar 19, 2018
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said it will release no fewer than 1.3 million results of candidates that sat for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on Monday (today) after they had gone through security checks and found to be without malpractice.

The JAMB Head of Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, who stated this on Sunday in an interview with our correspondent, added that the UTME results of Computer-Based Test centres where the CCTV showed malpractices had been cancelled.

The board said the CCTV showed “strange things” such as CBT centre owners collecting money from candidates to engage in malpractices and also threatening JAMB officials at the centres.

The JAMB spokesman said, “We are presently viewing the CCTV to ensure that results are not released in several batches. On Monday, we will release over 1.3 million results. These are the results of the CBT centres that have been screened. We cannot say how many cases of malpractice we have yet, because we are still viewing the CCTV to discover more cases.

“Some strange findings that the CCTV has showed us include a situation where the CBT owners were collecting money from UTME candidates and seeing to how they could assist them. Our officials at the centres raised the alarm but they were also afraid so that their lives would not be endangered.

“What the JAMB officials did was to silently play along with them, but we were watching everything on the CCTV. We later sent operatives to the centres and caught them. Such UTME results were completely cancelled. We knew that there were some innocent candidates in such centres and we have asked them to go to other CBT centres and rewrite immediately.”

Benjamin said candidates whose fingers could not be captured during the biometric verification before the examination, would not be allowed to retake the examination, as the biometric verification had already disqualified them.

“We have also concluded all arrangements to do the UTME for blind candidates. The examination is taking place in five centres. These are Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Benin and Enugu. The candidates are writing on Monday (today),” he added.

No responsible government negotiates with terrorists – Fayose
By JournalNg - March 18, 201840

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has condemned the intended strategy by President Muhammadu Buhari to release the abducted 110 Dapchi girls from Boko Haram insurgents.

President Buhari had preferred negotiation rather than military enforcement.

Fayose while reacting to the plan said terrorism can not be defeated by negotiation.

According to him, a responsible government does not negotiate with terrorists.

On his Twitter page, he wrote, “I have never heard of anywhere in the world where terrorism was defeated by negotiation.”

“Responsible govt don’t negotiate with terrorists, it fights terrorism and crush it totally.

“May God put an end to these killings in our country.”

Nairaland / General / FBI Deputy Director Andrew Mccabe Sacked by theJournalng(m): 4:01pm On Mar 18, 2018
Few days after the sack of U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson by President Donald Trump, FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has been suspended for lying to investigators reviewing the bureau’s probe of Hillary Clinton’s email server.

The sack made possible by the Justice Department, dealt a big blow to McCabe, as his firing came just days before his retirement and a guarantee of lifetime pension.

“Pursuant to Department Order 1202, and based on the report of the Inspector General, the findings of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility, and the recommendation of the Department’s senior career official, I have terminated the employment of Andrew McCabe effective immediately,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement.

“After an extensive and fair investigation and according to Department of Justice procedure, the Department’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) provided its report on allegations of misconduct by Andrew McCabe to the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR),” Sessions said.

“The FBI’s OPR then reviewed the report and underlying documents and issued a disciplinary proposal recommending the dismissal of Mr. McCabe. Both the OIG and FBI OPR reports concluded that Mr. McCabe had made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked candor − including under oath − on multiple occasions.

The FBI expects every employee to adhere to the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and accountability. As the OPR proposal stated, ‘all FBI employees know that lacking candor under oath results in dismissal and that our integrity is our brand.’”

McCabe hit back in a fiery response of his own.

“This attack on my credibility is one part of a larger effort not just to slander me personally, but to taint the FBI, law enforcement, and intelligence professionals more generally,” McCabe said.

“It is part of this Administration’s ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the Special Counsel investigation, which continue to this day. Their persistence in this campaign only highlights the importance of the Special Counsel’s work.”

McCabe’s firing marked stunning fall for a man who was No. 2 at the bureau for a time under Comey, ran it and even was reportedly on President Trump’s short list for the directorship.

Nairaland / General / Senate Passes National Transport Commission Bill by theJournalng(m): 1:13pm On Mar 16, 2018
The Senate on Thursday passed the National Transport Commission Bill, exactly 10 years after it was first sponsored.
The commission is expected to create a multi-modal transport system that will drive the nation’s transport policy and engender speedy economic development.

After it was read for the second time on the floor of the Senate on October 7, 2015, the Senate reportedly referred the bill to the Joint Senate Committee on Land Transport, Marine Transport and Aviation Transport chaired by Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East Senatorial District.

Ashafa was quoted in a statement as expressing his excitement at the passage of the bill, having worked assiduously with other members of the committee and stakeholders to ensure that the best possible version of the bill was passed.

He said, “The National Transport Commission when signed into law is capable of setting the transport sector on the path of positive development. With this bill, we would successfully create a multi-modal transport sector for economic and safety oversight regulator of the sector. This is very good for business as it brings standard and structure to the transport sector while also increasing the revenue of government.”

He also said, “The Joint Senate Committee worked with the understanding that this is one of the priority economic bills of the 8th Senate and therefore ensured that all input from stakeholders were considered and the best possible version of the bill was presented to the Senate.”

Ashafa expressed appreciation to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, for his commitment to prioritising bills that would have great impact on the economy.

Nairaland / General / Human Rights Lawyer, Opara Speaks On Nnamdi Kanu’s Whereabouts by theJournalng(m): 7:26pm On Mar 15, 2018
Human Right lawyer, Maxwell Opara, has insisted that the Nigerian Military are on the know as to the whereabouts of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu who have been off the radar for a while now.

Opara told newsmen in Abuja, that the Military still has Kanu it’s custody contrary to the general information circulated about his disappearance.

According to Opara, “When the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria said that Nnamdi Kanu violated his bail conditions which is normal, yes they have the right to say it. They went further to apply for summons asking the court to revoke the bail of Nnamdi Kanu.

“While we are waiting to hear their application on the 7th of October, 2017, the military went to his house on the 11th September with an armored car and besieged the place and people were asking why, why? Why should that happen?

“They left only for them to come back on the 14th September 2017 and killed every living thing in that house- dog, fowl, lizard, human being- everything they killed, 28 persons were killed and they left with their copses. I am talking about the Nigerian Army. Since then, we have not heard of Nnamdi Kanu.

“We heard of him last when he called the principal Counsel Ejiofor complaining of the way his house was surrounded by the military. When Ejiofor started calling the line back, up till now, it could not go through. Whether he is dead or alive we do not know.

“It is a very simple thing. Why are we being naïve? Why are Nigerians behaving like this? Even the journalists are not helping matters. Nobody has gone to ask the Chief of Army Staff or Director of Military Intelligence or the Army Public Relations Officer, why should they bring armoured car to his compound?

“They have a very simple case, you can’t intimidate them. Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has filed his action asking the army to produce Kanu.”

Sports / Chelsea Goal Keeper, Courtois Blames Self For Chelsea’s Defeat Against Barcelona by theJournalng(m): 5:35pm On Mar 15, 2018
Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has rendered himself the fall guy for Chelsea’s defeat against Barcelona on Wednesday night, March 14.

The Blues lost 0-3 against Barcelona at Camp Nou with Lionel Messi scoring a rare brace against the Premier League champions.

The Barcelona talisman preyed on Curtois legs which were vulnerably left open ensuring an easy passage for the ball down to the net.

The Belgian admitted it was all his fault and also noted that individual mistakes robbed them off the tie in both legs.

“I don’t think we deserve to be out, but individual mistakes cost us in both legs.

“The first goal, I didn’t expect Lionel Messi to shoot from that angle and I was too late in closing my legs. It was a mistake on my part.

“There were missed passes from us and they scored from our mistakes. We defended and played well, hit the crossbar which was unlucky on our side but the individual mistakes cost us. We have to be honest about that.

“I played against Messi a lot of time, I have already conceded goals like that before.

“The weakest point is between the legs or a goalkeeper, it is annoying, I cannot hide inside, I have to be a man and come out. I made some good saves too but we go out with conceding four goals from four mistakes.” Courtois was quoted to have said by Express UK.
