I bought it Nigerian used, No thermostat. What would you rather do sir, if have suck level of sludge in ur engine?

Did your vehicle manual recommend the engine flush?

For me, I would slowly reduce my oil servicing interval so as not to double my cost of servicing, then continue driving it that way till the engine quits while saving for a replacement engine.

Macmilla:

Could you give more details on the boldened?

1. The vehicle has a few imperfections since it is the first year model of that generation. Hence, a higher than normal maintenance cost.
2. The v6 engine used in the Honda Accord v6 is not one of Honda's best engine. At least in that generation.
3. A replacement engine is quite pricey. Replacing any part in that engine will also be expensive.
4. As a v6, the fuel consumption is relatively higher.
5. Some of the parts in the v6 models are more costly than those in the 4 cylinder model. A good example is the engine seat.
6. There is that tendency for a mechanic working on your vehicle to want to charge you higher since the vehicle looks a bit luxurious.
7. Finally, the above individually might not seem all that significant but together they add to the overall maintenance expenses.

I so much appreciate the detailed explanation, Sir. Before the thermostat was removed, the radiator worked only after few minutes of driving the vehicle, not immediately the ignition is turned on. I don't know why I was so gullible to believe him without a second opinion, perhaps because he has been a personal mechanic for a little over 10 years now. I wish to reinstall the thermostat, is it safe to do this?

It's perfectly normal for the radiator fan not to start immediately you start the car. The engine needs to warm up first.

The fact that you have a "personal mechanic for 10 years" isn't necessarily a good thing oh!

Maybe I was too subtle in my earlier post. From the way you sound, that car will send you to your village soon. I strongly advise you consider selling the car as soon as possible.

I'm glad I came across this thread now and I am learning already. Ogas in the house please guide me, sometimes I feel like destroying my 2008 Honda accord, V6, 3.5litre as it is about sending me back to the village due to excessive fuel consumption. The car was bought as direct Belgium and is less than 8months post registration. Now the main issue; I visited my mechanic 4months ago to have an oil change, while at it, he told me that the radiator fan does not rotate well and that this is caused by the thermostat. According to him, the thermostat is meant for snowy and cold regions and not for tropical weather. He convinced me that the best option is removing the thermostat and bypassing some electrical stuff in the engine. I allowed him to carry out this process. Ever since this exercise the car consumes fuel excessively. I use about 30litres of fuel weekly to and fro work for a distance of less than 3km, I don't think this is normal despite that it is a V6 engine. It wasn't this bad when the thermostat was there. I want to fix back the thermostat, but I-m afraid the radiator malfunction may return. Please guide me, I am on the verge of throwing this car away. There is no other fault at all.

If the radiator fan wasn't rotating well, your vehicle would have been overheating. Allowing the mechanic to remove the thermostat was a mistake. The radiator fan shouldn't be running constantly, especially upon starting the car. Right now, the continuous fan operation prevents the engine from reaching its optimal operating temperature. This results in increased fuel consumption as the engine uses up more fuel trying to compensate for the overcooling caused by the constantly running fan.

Personally, when I'm looking at buying a used car, once I see that the thermostat have been taken out, I'm passing. Finally, that Honda Accord 2008 v6 is a high maintenance car. Best of luck with that vehicle.

Thanks for your response.

The last mechanic forgot the oil type. To service soon again. Checks online shows 5W-40.
Hope 5W-30 won't make the engine to start emanating bad smoke?

To be on the safe side use 10/15w weight oil. Since most Nigerians use 20w50.

Guys please help me out. I intended buying a Honda Accord 2012, v6 engine. Recently a video was sent to me of an available Nigeria used but while going through the video I noticed some dashboard indicator light on the car.

Please find attached the the pic of the dashboard lights.

Please is this a bad sign that the car have issues and will be problematic if I continue and purchase it

Or some of this indicator can easily be worked on the car.

Guys please help me out as I am about paying for the car and I don't want to make a wrong choice.

The V6 of this accord is not as easy to maintain as the 4 cylinder version. However, I'd advice you to find out the price for a replacement engine for the car. It would help you with a more informed decision of buying the car or not.

Good evening here, I'm currently having issue with my Honda Civic 2009 model. The car will just stop accelerating while in motion and the engine will not off, it will not raise while matching the throttle, if I off the engine and I some minutes I will work when I on the ignition again. Please what could be the culprit. I have changed fuel pump three times.

Could be a problem with your Throttle body or Mass Airflow

What does these 2 symbols are for and that B13 too?

Check engine and maintenance reminder light.
The B13 is the Honda service code that tells you the kind of service you should perform.

Honda Service Codes
Code What it Means
A Change Oil and Filter
B Replace the engine oil and oil filter. Perform front and rear brake cleaning and lubrication. Adjust parking brake. Perform in-depth inspection of the brake components.
Honda Service Sub-Codes
Sub-Code What it Means
0 Perform multi-point inspection.
1 Tires need a rotation service.
2 Replace the cabin and engine air filters.
3 Replace the transmission fluid.
4 Replace spark plugs, timing belt (if equipped) and adjust valves.
5 The engine coolant needs replacing.
6 If equipped, rear differential fluid needs replacing.
7 Replace brake fluid.

Good day house, I would like to raise my honda civic's ground clearance and the mechanic said I can either buy bigger rims and tyre, or he can help me increase the height kazeem style (which is cheaper according to him). What are the pros and cons of these different methods?

Bigger rims/tyres - Fuel economy suffers
Increased Height kazeem style - Car becomes less stable at high speed

I came across this oil from a very reputable wholesale lubricant seller. My 09 accord previous owner was using mobile 20w-50, can I use this one before finally switching and settling down to the original mobile1 synthetic 5w-20 recommended?

Just jejely continue using the 20w50.

500k is enough to start a unisex salon but not like the ones in the pictures you put up. I had like 350k when I decided to set up one and I've spent over 500k so far.

going by your statement, what oil grade do you suggest i change to, after I make the needed piston rings and oil seals replacement on the car?

You could go with a 10w40 or 15w50 oil grade.
Car Talk / Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by xcitedjay(m): 12:28am On Jan 25, 2020
nitt:

Ok. Your reasons pls?

Your car shorting oil and smoking means the oil is sipping out from your rings and/or seals, so using a lighter oil now would only worsen the already bad situation. And 5w30 oil are much more expensive than the conventional motor oil.

Hi, I'm in a similar situation. My car is shorting oil and smokes when u rev it.

I want to replace the piston rings and other necessary parts then i plan to start using the recommended 5w30.

Is this adviceable?. The car is a 2005 honda accord i4, had her for 9 years now.

At this stage, you'd only be wasting more money for the 5w30 oil.
Autos / Re: Should I Change To Synthetic Oil For A High Mileage Engine? by xcitedjay(m): 9:02pm On Aug 29, 2019
At this stage you shouldn't be bothering yourself about the manufacturer oil spec because you might just be blowing money unnecessarily. The engine for that generation of civic is so cheap you could get it for free if you're worried about damage to your engine.

You can switch to a lighter 15w40 Total 7000 tho.

So i thought before I own one...not true sir.

Actually, it does consume more fuel but not excess...based on personal experience, considering average weekly fuel consumption of other cars I own:

2006 Civic 1.8L MT - 3K per week
2008 Civic 1.8L AT - 4K per week
2006 Accord 2.4L AT - 6K per week
2010 Accord 3.5L AT - 7K per week

From above data you can see that the fuel consumption is not alarming.

My V6 accord is equipped with VCM so I get good MPG up to 17 within town and 26 on the highway. See TripB in images below.

I use Honda type2 coolant, DW1, service with synthetic M1 oil and ensure no check engine light (very important to enjoy ECO mode) and I buy fuel from trusted filling stations. I have also installed Honda V-springs recommended for excessive rear pad wear/binding...this slightly improved acceleration and fuel consumption.

In summary, maintenance is key. An abused and poorly maintained car will consume excess fuel.

Decision to stick to I4 or not is yours to make. In my own case I needed to explore the talked about power of a V6 and its been fun so far.

You care for a test drive?

The VCM in the V6 tries to reduce fuel consumption but doesn't succeed very much in that. I probably use the same amount you use in a week to buy a month worth of fuel for my civic. Fuel economy for the Accord 08 v6 is comparable to that of a Corolla on long journeys.

Good day, Honda Lovers.
I intend to upgrade from my present car BMW E46 to a 2008 Accord (evil spirit). I've always wanted to own an EOD due to it's ruggedness and beauty, but I'm presently in love with the 2008 Accord now.

My question is this, is the 2008 Accord as rugged as the EOD, what are the common fault that I'll expect and what the current price of the engine? I also see alot of Nigerian used 2008 Accord for sale on the internet, any reason for this?

Thanks as I await your response.

For one it's not too reliable as it's a first year model. Also it's expensive to maintain, you can go for the 2012 Model if you really want to get the Accord.

i will be retiring from my present job in the next 8years and I have about 3million Naira which I am thinking on investing on one of the MMF for the next 7years.

Some friends are suggest stock market that I have a better chance of doubling my fund, while some say I should go into agriculture. I am confused right now as I can't afford to loose this money.

Need all the advice I can get right now thanks

I don't think Stocks is a good place for someone retiring soon to invest in. You can share your investments between MMF and TB for now and branch out to others as your money grows and you feel more confident.

Just a quick question,

Is it right to speed ones investment. I'm presently have some investment with AXAmansard's and SFS capital, all mutual funds And I'm considering opening another Account with a different company

It would be better if you spread across different classes of investments. i.e. mutual funds, treasury bills, commercial papers, stocks etc

Lol, my people, i made an observation i want to share, feel free to drop your opinions if you have any. Have you guys noticed that majority of us that had one problem or the other to seek help for here for our hondas, mention, as a maximum, 2007 model cars and lower? Lol, is it that dem evil spirit accords and the likes do not develop so many problems? I currently drive a 2005 accord EOD, and i think i am sure what accord i will get next.

Lool. Don't underestimate that name "Evil spirit".
2008 Accord will give you problem....you won't be able to buy clothe again.
It will so deal with you eh.................you will be getting constant high bp.
It will give you problem.....................you will forget your own birthday.
You will register your mechanic number under family and friends.
Your mechanic will be the ones to be calling you to check up on you.

I own the v6 model tho. The 4 cylinder versions are less problematic and cheaper to maintain.
My advice is to go for the 2009-2011 models(4 cylinder).
