Which city in the UK is your friend studying? That seems like an exaggerated figure because in many cities in the UK that is what you pay for 2 or 3 bedroom flat.

If she really pays such amount then she must either be dull not to have noticed that is a rip-off or she is trying to show-off while she is dying quietly .

She goes to the uni of surrey, so I guess it's in surrey and I said it was a 3 bed house she shares with two other people.

Unless you're not driving into Kingston Upon Thames itself and are somewhere on the outskirts but within the Borough, 45 minutes at 8am is highly improbable except on occasion.

Besides, most people who complain about London costs usually work closer to the City itself, which is not somewhere you can live in Aldershot and commute to in 45 mins - it'll take you another 45mins by train from Kingston to get into the City, making 3 hours commuting daily.

Thats the point, its not that far but house there are cheaper houses outside London. He was staying in London before,i think croydon and it was expensive for him,he was taking a studio flat plus all bills was sometimes over £1000 and that was one of the cheapest he could find then when he was looking for a house in London. He was not saving reasonably enough till he now got a one bed apartment in Aldershot and with all bill he spends around £750.The place he got in aldershot was far better and quiet than his former place which was rowdy, parking permit was expensive, visitors struggling to park, house rent high. Where he stays now is really better and nice. Funny thing was that he he said it took him more than an hour to get to work from Croydon then due to the traffic

Im not about to defend or criticise the UK (being as I was born and brought up here), however, I will say as much as those living here complain, I GUARANTEE you, if you were shipped off to the USA you will come running back.
The UK has a very secure safety net for its citizens... the USA do not....

I personally do not find the UK to be expensive... But to each there own, however, i do notice when im in and out of my second home in Abuja, certain prices do shock me... It may be the area I live in or the fact im used to seeing things cheaper in other states of 9ja...

You may be ok eating potatoes, some people may feel they will not survive if they haven't had yam/garri. To each his own.

As for the endless Nigeria vs abroad comparisons, it's also down to the individual - within the scope of opportunities available to him/her. If you value certainty with security, transport, health etc even with an average income, you may choose to live abroad. If you value being in your own country, maximising your opportunities there, not paying taxes, etc, you may choose to live in Nigeria.
