PoliticsHow Nairalanders Can Change Nigeria For Good by 10mobile(op): 1:11am On Sep 10, 2018
Yeah, I know it's not all Nairalanders who are goodwilled towards our embattled country. But I'm very optimistic that we have up to 50% who are, and that's all we need to change this place for good & fast. How to do this is by engineering a network of this simple democracy education enunciated below & a little more if need be:

One big reason our political reps fail to do well is that Nigerians generally, are not quite aware of the powers they have & can wield over those who represent them. On the contrary, if they demonstrate an awareness of these powers, their reps will tread carefully rather than posing as lords. One huge power the law gives the masses over their reps - & which virtually no one seems to realize - is the right to INITIATE a recall of reps who don't rep well. Imagine! Just anyone can start the process anywhere. So please, let every goodwilled Nairalander help remind Nigerians of this power/duty until it is common knowledge.

#TheRecallRevolution. Pls tell Mynd44 & lalasticlala to help.
PoliticsIf You Know Primate Ayodele, Tell Him This by 10mobile(op): 4:35pm On Sep 09, 2018
Primate Ayodele - as he calls himself - has shown again and again recently that he wants Saraki to be given the PDP Presidential ticket for 2019 - which is not bad at all.

What is BAD and verily so, is for the man to claim God said what is only his (Ayodele's) human desire. For instance, the latest I know of Ayodele's string of political 'prophecies' is where he is quoted as saying "the LORD has revealed that Saraki would defeat Buhari IF given PDP ticket for 2019 polls". This is the comment I'm here to comment on before I give Ayodele Heaven's word of warning.

Ayodele, since when did God's will began to be subject to human will? So, why is God's verdict about Saraki now subject to whether PDP gives him ticket or not? Why won't the Almighty Sovereign Majesty declare His sovereign will in this situation & must depend on men to do so? Do you know you have seemed to make PDP superior to God by that statement, thereby incuring God's wrath very heavily against yourself?

Repent or meet your Waterloo soonest.

Royal200, your desperate need for change is understandable & shared by many of us. But we should not let desperation push us into wounding ourselves. For instance, you're obviously regretting your choice in 2015 now like many more Nigerians. Believe me, you made that mistake because you failed to look well before you leaped. We mustn't continue making mistakes forever. We need change but not just ANY change at all - Not the fry-pan-to-fire kind of change @ least. Thanks.
Politics2019: Could Sowore Be The Messiah Nigerians Have Been Waiting For? by 10mobile(op):
I heard the name Sowore a few times online but didn't think much about him. Then, recently I read a headline of his recent Marijuana export promise and I dismissed him in my mind as possibly a drug addict who gained cheap prominence via Fela's Shrine. But this morning, I woke up suddenly thinking of him. So I Googled and saw he founded Sahara Reporters. I also read his reported view on Marijuana export & found it quite insightful and daring. To me, he seems to be a man with great ideas up his sleeves which is what any sane people would desire as a leader. As Plato said, "the state can never work until either kings become philosophers or philosophers become kings". My own point is: Nigerians have really suffered a lot at the hand of bad leaders. So if we find someone who shows the ability needed, it'll be wise to put aside all differences & traditions to rally round the person. So, friends, what's ur take on a possible Sowore Presidency? Oga Lalasticlala & Mynd44 abeg helep me to talk am. God bless thee.

Jokes EtcHappening Now!!! The Nnamdi Kanu Independence Day Broadcast by 10mobile(op): 2:42am On Oct 01, 2017
The nebula of paraplegic carthasis adumbrated by IPOB has provided the convivially inundating premise on the basis of which Nnamdi Kanu's akratically celestial essence may have meandered into the nocturnal caverns of the heterocongenial sync of cosmic and cosmological paraphernalia.

Do you understand? let me make it clearer. Sometimes it happens that a potpourri of hegemonic accretions become a parambulative symphony for a cacophonous or even a razzmatazzic euphoria and a cantankerous ratiocination as it happened between the Python Dancers and the Biafran agitators. (heo!)

As a result of this demagogy, NOTE: That mod doing press up to ban me, remember: This is a 'joke' section, and 'joke' here is an English word, not a Yoruba girl's name - you know, this is to warn some of these teenage boys who are on Nairaland looking for girlie monikers not minding if a chimpazee is behind them.

My fellow kwantiri pipuru, this na the end of this Independence Day Broadcast. We are still Nigerians. So, happy Independence to you all.
PoliticsRe: ‘Restructuring’ Cannot Help Nigeria: See Reasons Many Of Us Are Blind To by 10mobile(op):
EzzyIzzy:
@10mobile, I asked you, what is the guarantee that the outcome of the referendum will be respected?? Since we already have a history of disrespect for earlier agreements. I'm sure you are following the developing story on the Kurdish referendum, the US just now asked the Kurds to void the outcome of the exercise, despite the fact that they are strong allies with the Kurds due to the ISIS situation. So also have the US asked Catalonians to step back. It's all about interests and the people's interests hardly matter in these affairs. Like I said earlier, going separate ways through a referendum will hardly work, too many interests in this Union will make sure the woman stays put. I will rather suggest a well thought out restructuring,to at least reduce the cost of government and strengthen our institutions of governance at the same time reduce the power at the centre. Thanks
The guarantee that people will respect the outcome of a referendum is that they must have freely chosen it for themselves. That is the great power of democracy when it is genuinely practiced. They will be following suit from their heart because it is what they want. Even those who voted against will even have reasons to follow suit because they will realize "if most people chose this path, then its likely they are right and I was wrong" as long as it was free and fair. For instance, assuming there is a free and fair referendum in South East on whether people want to remain in Nigeria or not and those who say "remain" won, do you think Nnamdi Kanu will be able to still ask for Biafra? I tell you he wouldn't because then, the international community, the spirits, even the very ground will deny him.

Why is democracy considered the best system of human government so far? it is because it upholds the simple truth that 'no one knows it all and no one has it all'. One outcome of this truth is that every adult should have the right to choose for himself rather than have someone else choose for him. That's why we vote in a democracy ie. to enable every adult to choose those to make decisions on his/her behalf. The only right way to take major decisions in a democracy is therefore to vote. It is either you vote directly or through your genuine representative.

The very existence of Nigeria itself is undemocratic. Why? We neither chose to belong to a country called Nigeria either directly or indirectly through our ancestors or genuine representatives. Instead a single British named Lord Lugard chose for all of us as you will choose for ordinary dogs. Even the name we answer was chosen for us. Then, for almost a century now, we have seen that the choice does not augur well. And until now, none of us chose to be a Nigerian.

Now, instead of people talking of giving room for people to choose to be Nigerians or otherwise through voting, they continue to talk of discussing how to remain Nigerians which we have been doing unsuccessfully and daily for over a century now. They are even choosing for us what they want the outcome of the discussion to be ie. true federalism. That means the discussion is already concluded before it started. Fraud! Why can't we engage in free discussion if indeed we are objective and not wanting it our individual ways? Why should some people choose what the discussion will result to even before it has started if they are not deceiving you and me? Note that the fact that they called it TRUE federalism does not mean they are truthful.

In my response to Tinubu, I referred him to Brexit which he already referred to himself. Do you know that large portions of the British people voted both in favor and against Brexit? That means Brexit had its merits and demerits and so its supporters and opponents among the British people. But since you can't have it both ways at once, the majority carried the day. Do you know in the absence of voting, an intelligent anti-Brexiteer could have gone on air and given all 'good' reasons why Britain should remain in the EU? But would that be the will of the majority? Of course no.

You asked me what we are to do. And I insist, let us insist on referendum as a means of choosing for ourselves as the British people did for themselves only recently. Otherwise, we are perpetual kids. If you do not allow me the right to choose for myself, it can only be because you think I am not mature enough to choose rightly. Isn't it? And until you say "I am", no one will say "you are". So, let us continue to ask for a referendum until we have it. Unless we are very serious in asking for it, what we are telling Britain, US and others is that we are still kids, still unable to make a choice. And what do you do for a kid? You continue to take decisions for him.

We should not care about what is happening to the Kurds or the Catalonians. We should dare to be ourselves - not Kurds, Catalonians or anyone else. If America is really honest in their preaching of democracy, they should not hold back on referendum wherever a people asked for it. Otherwise, where is the democracy they are preaching when whole peoples are where they would rather not be? If as an individual I should have the right to choose (vote) in a democracy, why should whole peoples be denied that right even when it is obvious they are paying heavy prices for being where they are?

REFERENDUM especially for those who ask for it is the answer. Otherwise, let us admit that the word 'democracy' is self-deception. It is absolutely undemocratic to hold that "Nigeria's unity is non-negotiable". But if we can only have our choice by bloodletting (rather than by voting), it is a clear proof that what we have here is anarchy labelled democracy just as we have had a unitary government labelled federal for years.

I have repeated what i responded to Tinubu in summary. It is a pity that many are not even given it a consideration even when what i am saying is similar to what they would want. I urge you my brothers, please take your time to go through it below. This is our future:

FamilyThe Most Annoying Behaviors Of Nairalanders And How To Curb Them? by 10mobile(op): 4:54pm On Sep 27, 2017
Nairaland has become a family of sorts. Here we make friends, help one another through difficulties, transact businesses, fight and make up and we do more and more. The good sides are all over the place. So we don't need to ask about them. The negatives are few and so, difficult to see. So, let's talk about them to improve our experiences with one another.

What behaviors (especially predominant ones) do you find particularly annoying on Nairaland? And what do you offer as a way to curb those annoying behaviors?

let me begin with myself. There are three major behaviors I find most annoying here, and they are quite predominant:

1. Too many Nairalanders are given to parochialism. We too easily quarrel with one another based on the regions, parties, religions we come from or do not come from. How to curb it: Let's see ourselves as a family and as change agents, not just for Nigeria but for the world.
2. Like number (1), too many Nairalanders are given to insults rather than reasoning. We often throw away people's views with insults even without offering our own views. How to curb: Take time to consider someone's view (even if you don't like it) before you respond. You might learn one or two things every day by so doing.
3. Many Nairalanders are notorious for quoting every statement someone made in order to respond to it. Sometimes, you notice someone quoting a whole post that is up to 10 paragraphs. How to curb: Respond by clicking on 'reply'. Click on 'quote' only when it is necessary to quote a statement in whole or part.

Please, people, give us your own. I'll be back.

PoliticsRe: ‘Restructuring’ Cannot Help Nigeria: See Reasons Many Of Us Are Blind To by 10mobile(op): 4:10pm On Sep 27, 2017
It is understandable that in a discussion, some will agree and others will disagree to certain points. And when I came up against a view most of you have come to accept, I expected more disagreements than I have seen. But, since this is a serious matter, I expected you people to take time and consider my point first, both here and on the page cited, before you respond. So far, it's like people are responding without giving due consideration to my points.

For instance, EmeeNaka, you seem to think I support that we continue the way we are. And you seem to also think that the only possible options we have are either the status quo or regional governments. Why not give room for something possibly better? I think I have that in the link I posted where I responded to Asiwaju's keynote speech.

As for you Truckpusher, when you just cast aspersions on people's view without giving your own view, you give yourself away as unthinking. I expect us here to put on our thinking caps and reason these things so that we can avoid historical pitfalls ahead. Thank you people. In case you don't know, we influence public opinions and policy making here on Nairaland.

Politics‘Restructuring’ Cannot Help Nigeria: See Reasons Many Of Us Are Blind To by 10mobile(op):
It didn’t start today. Politicians and the media have been using terminologies to mislead whole peoples into making historic mistakes that are suffered by many generations afterwards. Some days ago, the erudite politician and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a Guest/Keynote Speaker at the 2017 Annual Dinner of the King’s College Old Boys Association (KCOBA), held at King’s College Lagos. The address he was reported to have delivered expectedly dwelt on very key issues regarding our country Nigeria. You can acquaint yourself with the speech here:

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/breaking-must-guard-separating-nigeria-small-pieces-tinubu-warns/

In many ways, the speech was a huge eye-opener to me. Suddenly, it was as if scales fell off my eyes and, for the first time, I really came to understand how faulty are many age-long concepts popular politicians and media moguls have been recommending such as Sovereign National Conference and True Fiscal federalism. I realized how very flimsy are the supporting reasons for such recommendation. Yet, they are being pushed down our collective throats with highly skilled verbal embellishment. This led me to make a very spontaneous response to the paper which you can find here:

https://www.nairaland.com/4081404/sir-almost-said-truth-open

In that inspired response, I revealed clearly how lame are some of those concepts that have become household in our media and political discourses.

My eyes have particularly been opened to the fact that the much touted restructuring will only be another exercise in futility all because we are not thinking it through. The reason it will be another waste of national resource is that we have not identified our root problem correctly.

As I pointed out clearly in my response (cited above), the root problem with Nigeria is not with structure as many – including very famous people – seem to think. So, ‘restructuring cannot help us much.

The root problem with Nigeria is to be located at a deeper level, the sub-structure, the very foundation of the edifice. So, the so-called ‘restructuring’ will be like mending walls, re-roofing and repainting a faulty building when its real fault is with the foundation. I have explained this more broadly in the above response cited above.

To prove that structure is not the root source of our problem, I refer to history. We already had true fiscal federalism and resource control enshrined in the 1963 Constitution. But what did we get from that? Only three years after the Constitution was ratified, we had the 1966 civil and military uprisings that eventually snowballed into the regrettable Civil War.

So, let’s think more. The solution I proffer is in the response cited above. I cannot repeat it here to avoid making this post longer than intended. So, if you care to know, you can take advantage of the link.

All in all, I am calling on everyone. Let’s stop going through endless vicious circles while experimenting with the destinies of our children yet unborn. Let's leave off politics, ethnicity and godless religious inclination. The destiny of our children is at issue here.

“SIR, YOU ALMOST SAID THE TRUTH” – AN OPEN RESPONSE TO ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU'S KEYNOTE SPEECH AT THE 2017 KING'S COLLEGE OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION (KCOBA)'S ANNUAL DINNER

Your Excellency,
It was recently and profusely reported on the media that you delivered the keynote speech at the 2017 Annual Dinner of the King’s College Old Boys Association (KCOBA). Like many Nigerians, I read the speech as published and entitled “A New Nigeria or A Better One: The Fighting Tools of a Great Repair” (Henceforth to be quoted in this letter as “ANN” for brevity). I have to say that, as usual, you made us proud with your sheer display of long-and-hard-groomed erudition. Let me admit unabashedly that my first spontaneous reaction upon reading the first paragraph was, “Wow! This man’s coarse physique is far more than made up by the fineness of his mind. This must be the major bait that endeared him to that damsel”. I’m really sorry for washing my dirty linen here in the open but it’s what you caused by that superb command of language. You even went as far as revealing another side of you I never knew – a poet – with expressions such as “the only strong belief is to disbelieve” and “when we unite and not untie, we build on an existing maxim of ONE NIGERIA by describing that ONENESS as a fabric of a larger society S.E.W.N. (South, East, West. North) together” (ANN). And, what of that beautiful pun whereby you wrote, “it would be wrong to mistake this for a tempest in a teapot. If not careful, we may be tossed about like a teapot in a tempest” (ANN)? Oh, and there are more and more and more of such masterful expression of language skills. Congrats Great Lion of Bourdillion, the Asiwaju of our Era!

Again, besides mere skillful employment of language, you also displayed rare understanding of the state of affairs in the Nation. You left me thinking “we know many modern American, British, French, even South African and other great leaders for their wise sayings, couldn’t we just have a President Ahmed Bola Tinubu?”. I do not care if that was all you set out to achieve any way; after all, shouldn’t people have an aim in everything they do? All I need is one of my own kind that other nations can quote as I quote theirs. For instance, you said that “in one way or another, we all have felt the sting of man’s capacity to wrong his fellow man. But we are also endowed with the God-given spirit to overcome adversity and to make of old enemies, new allies and even brothers. I stand before you as a faithful believer in sentiments such as these” (ANN). Well, a faithful believer? I’m not sure I can bet on that. The one I can bet on is that those lines could easily have been spurn off the mouths of the Charles de Gaulles, the Winston Churchills, the Abraham Lincolns, the Nelson Mandelas, not to talk of the Barrack Obamas of this world. You surely belong in this league even if you come from a Nigeria.

If all that was needed in our current teething situation was a beautiful use of language, you surely would have the panacea in that speech. Indeed, your excellently beautiful use of language actually played a role in tending to hide some serious missing links in the speech. “A chain” they say, “cannot be stronger than its weakest link”. So, I hereby reveal to you and to all who have read the speech what I consider the missing or weak links since these are points that would affect real human lives if left as they are presented.

The solutions you proffered to our problems were hardly new. They include points you and other commentators have posited countless times such as true fiscal federalism, building industry to create employment and ensure self-sufficiency, having a national infrastructural master plan, making huge investments in agricultural development to ensure food security and more. And, I must admit, you also had a new twist to some of the points, like when you pointed out how the current credit system characterized by high interest rates, if reformed, would reduce or even exterminate corrupt practices and how an improved mortgage system would up our security profile as a people. You took many of us back to the classrooms. As I read through your submission, I thought “we’ve had so many like this who had great solutions to offer or so they thought. And we’ve come so far all because those solutions were not all a failure. Yet, we all agree we are all far behind our potentials and most of our peers. Why the lapse then?” Why are we still here in spite of the fact that we’ve had many like you who showed themselves to have great solutions? Why, let’s be clearer, have those people’s offer of solution not been a success as intended? This is one of the questions I want us to answer together as a contribution to the national discourse which you recommend.

On Coming To A Round Table
Talking about a national discourse, we all have had people talking about coming to a ‘round table’ (it could well be a triangular table). Other words have also been used such as sovereign national conference or a confab. Words could be multiplied to infinity but it is only the Omniscient One that would know what each person means by each word. But one thing I think is clear enough from this proliferation of words is a platform where different constituents of the country come to discuss to find solutions and define bases for our union. When you recommend such a thing, I really begin to wonder what on Earth the two arms of the National Assembly have been doing all these years. Which other discussion can we have that we haven’t had? What has the media also been doing? Some of you that advocate these things tend to bamboozle the populace with big words like when you began to add the word ‘sovereign’ before ‘national conference’. ‘What makes it sovereign?’ I asked, and I was told it would be independent of the influence of the government in power (by which is meant, of course, the executive arm of government) and would have the force of law. Is that not what, essentially, the three arms of government were meant to represent, independent and legal checks and balances?

In your speech at the KCOBA Event, you made a point about the high importance of thinking clearly through courses of action before embarking on them – looking before we look. “That which we cannot think clearly” you sagely noted, “will not be attained despite the magnitude of our exertions and expenditure to achieve it” (ANN). Should we apply this wisdom to the question of coming to a discussion table, I ask ‘how shall we begin? Who will initiate it? Who will organize it? Who will fund it? Who will choose representatives for the people? By what means will the reps be chosen? How can all these aspects truly accord with the word ‘sovereign’? That is, how can they be totally devoid of the influences of the government of the day – the executive, legislative and the judiciary arms? Will angels come from the outer space to do them for us? Is it not the same Nigerians with Nigerian mentality that will see us through these stages and aspects of the round table discussion? If the daily, year-in-and-out round tables called the National Assembly could not achieve it, how could a one-off conference – no matter how verbally embellished – achieve it overnight? Are we actually thinking clearly through this proposed course of action?

Again, how shall we suddenly bring ourselves to get objective on issues and really reason together in that round table? You wisely pointed out that “in the hard sciences such as physics, chemistry or mathematics, one can speak of immutable principles and objective formula. In the affairs of men, most things are subjective. Virtue and vice, good and bad, what is optimal and what is not, have no fixed meaning. Definitions change with the ideological and moral perspective of each person. As in almost all social interactions, there are few acts devoid of subjective ideological coloration. The decisions we make are determined by how we would like the world to be” (ANN). Permit me to add that, if this were true of humanity as it is, it is far truer of people in less evolved society as ours. This is a situation where people still have very heavy leaning toward tribe, religion and region irrespective of all objective considerations. How then can the round table happen? How can we reason together? How sure are we that people will honor the agreements reached? Even presently, we have laws (which are agreements between us on how our union should run) but we also have ‘sacred cows’ who flout these agreements and nothing happens. This is extreme subjectivity playing out in hard real life far more than you could ever say it in the comfort of a King’s College auditorium. So, how can I be sure that a similar fate will not greet the outcome of the much touted round table? For example, we have extant laws against unauthorized trespassing into other people’s property but today, we have herdsmen flouting them in most brazen ways and nothing happens to them. Instead, the same instruments of law are used to protect them. There are now several reported cases of these herdsmen killing and raping the so called fellow countrymen and the laws (the ‘agreements’) suddenly cease to exist. In at least one case (Agatu in Benue State) these people were even reported to have boasted publicly on ‘why we killed’ and nothing has happened to them till date.

We have another provision of the law (another existing agreement, that is)... Continued here: http://www.twapin.com.ng/2017/09/place-as-very-important-presidential.html

Career"Little Things That Matter A Lot" In Rising Fast On The Corporate Ladder (photo) by 10mobile(op): 10:06pm On Sep 25, 2017
If you want to rise fast on the corporate ladder of your office, you must learn to be on the good books of those who are above you on the ladder. They are the ones that will pull you up. There are many ways to do this, but the easiest is to be humble towards them and always make them feel good through paying them respect, saying 'thank you' to them when you receive any favor from them. Saying 'congratulation' when they achieve anything. Saying 'sorry' when you do wrong. Then, back at home, you should do same to members of your family such as your wife or husband. Here you should be more personal by adding sayings like "I love you", "you are the best husband/wife/mom/son/etc on earth". If you are happy at home, it boosts your energy at work.

I recommend that you say such things on occasions in very unique ways like sending very beautiful customized e-cards like the one attached here below. Get a good designer to do it for you and send it to them via social media, email or as MMS to their phone numbers. Almost everyone would fall for this.

CultureThis Culture Of Weddings And Birthdays Has Changed Except In Nigeria (photos) by 10mobile(op): 8:07am On Sep 22, 2017
In this electronic age, people no longer send paper invitation cards for wedding, anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Instead, they send electronic invitation cards.

The advantages are many: They are more affordable (Just a single copy can reach unlimted number of people); more easily kept by the receivers, more convenient to distribute and it enhances your image as someone who is up-to-date. Another advantage in Nigeria is that it makes your event more memorable since not many people have started using it.

But ensure they are beautifully designed. You can see these world-class designs that are now available to Nigerians nationwide.

Fellow youths!
Whether you know it or not, the future of this Nation (or even if it breaks up into smaller Nations) is in our hands as youths. Today, we too easily blame the oldies for having messed up things for us. We recount history and we point accusing fingers. Tomorrow, we shall be old and our children will do same to us UNLESS WE REALLY STAND UP TO CHANGE HISTORY NOW.
lalasticlala mynd44 seun please. Let's start a positive change of attitude and save our generation.
