Politics / Re: Breaking! #ENDSARS: Finally, Buhari To Address Nigerians 7pm Today by 10thTenthMan: 6:45pm On Oct 22, 2020 |
Interestingly I have tried to have a proper discussion with people on this matter with only little success. I understand that a lot of direct, contributory and remote causes have led us to where we are today. A total neglect of the masses and the lack of a system which caters for the needs of its citizens home and abroad. However, a lot of the youths are piped up and they do not see beyond a few hours of the events about to unfold and the potential for escalation. They do not understand that the monster created might eventually bite sparing no one. It is understandable that we speak about how SARS has committed atrocities in addition to the shooting of protesters at Lekki Toll Gate. While these are all annoyingly painful events, the question is should the entire country be thrown into anarchy? Should this serve as the Justice demanded for on the killings by SARS or the Lekki Protesters shot at? Are we saying that about 150 to 200 million people in the South (since the North is not really protesting at this moment) be thrown into untold suffering and hardship? That the aged should die, property destroyed, jobs lost, young ones malnourished? Are we saying that Warlords and Gangs run the country just because we are trying to make a point? The same thugs and brigands who, during the Corona Virus lockdown, ran renegade and attacked same ordinary persons struggling to survive as well? Are we saying that justice for SARS Victims and those killed during the protest is the complete desolation of Nigeria? And then what? What is the plan to fill the vacuum? What is the strategy? Aren't there better ways to bring the Government to do the needful? A hasty fight leads to a quick defeat. While the protest was planned for a noble purpose it was clearly spun out of control and those with other sinister motives have started the looting, killings, robbery, burning and raping. I still strongly believe that justice has not been served for the SARS killings. However, no amount of destruction of property will serve as proper justice for the crimes committed. Nigerians have never experienced anarchy in the past, hence they are unaware of what is about to come should this degenerate. I want full justice for those killed by either SARS or the military, but I am sensible enough to know that destruction of property which serves common good will not count as justice for those lost. When things die down it will only count as more suffering for the masses who relied on these structures to do business and earn daily income. When things die down how will people who relied on BRT go to and return from work? How do courts hold proceedings? When has throwing the baby away with the bathwater helped the family? How does cutting the nose to spite the face help? A review of online platforms has revealed old videos of Tompolo and his followers in gun boats parading the creeks regatta style. However, these videos were posted about 4 years ago. They are being recycled as new videos. On Nairaland, Seun's Moderators have suddenly gone to sleep while posts which are trying to forcefully turn the crises into an ethnic/tribal dimension are ubiquitous on the forum. Suddenly, topics are not being closed or hidden. Comments are not being closed/locked. Suddenly, the traffic to the forum pays. The type of hate speech that pervaded Rwanda just before and during the genocide and ethnic cleansing have been common lately on this platform. Till date people still believe that should the protest linger for 40 days, the United Nations will step in and take over Nigeria. Lies, propaganda and falsehood being peddled. Bloggers using the opportunity to draw traffic to their blogs so as to profit from fear mongering and heating of the polity. The Military also denying claims of carrying out attacks, despite being warned about the wrong timing of operation crocodile smile. The Government also keeping quiet on the matter. When two brothers fight to death, another man (a stranger) reaps their father's land. I still am of the opinion that the violence should cease, the protest suspended and the government held to account in the proper way and manner. There are diverse ways the Government can be frustrated, persuaded or pressured to ensure justice is served besides the wanton destruction of lives and property by both the protesters and the security agencies. |

OZOnNengiTheory: Interestingly I have tried to have a proper discussion with people on this matter. They are talking about how SARS is criminal and the shooting of protesters at Lekki Toll Gate a crime against humanity and a massacre. I do not want to use this platform to lecture on terminologies or lexis and structure , so I will not do so. While the aforementioned are all annoyingly painful events, the question is should the entire country be thrown into anarchy?
