Four Ghanaians to hang for murdering 50 year-old-man

The Koforidua High Court has sentenced four persons to death by hanging after they were found guilty of murder.

The convicts, including three siblings, who had pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime and murder were unanimously found guilty by a seven-member jury which returned a verdict of guilty on both counts.

Kofi Bredu Armah, 60; Addy Armah, 40, and Aryee Badu Armah, 35, the siblings, contracted 40-year-old Lartei Tetteh to kill their uncle, Kwame Dartey, 50, who was the caretaker of the family’s vast land at Ntowkrom, near Nsawam.

Tetteh, who hid in a bush, shot and killed Dartey, who was returning home from the farm alone about 7 p.m. on October 12, 2003.

A state attorney, Mrs Priscilla Dikro, had told the court that the three brothers and their late uncle. as well as their accomplice, Tetteh, stayed at Ntowkrom, a village near Nsawam.

She told the court, presided over by Mr Justice Henry Kwofie, that on October 12, 2003, Dartey was on his way home from the farm when he met his cousin, a lady, who was walking alone in the dark with a lantern.

He went to see her off and, as he was returning home alone, he was shot from a nearby bush. But he managed to run for about 15 metres before falling dead.

The prosecutor said the incident was later reported to the police and police investigations led to the arrest of the three brothers.

During interrogations, Addy was said to have confessed that it was his elder brother, Bredu, who had come up with the idea that they should kill their uncle.

The siblings, according to the prosecution, discussed the idea and conspired to kill their uncle to enable them to also have access to the family’s vast property.

After they had agreed to kill their uncle, Bredu contracted Tetteh to execute their plans.

On October 12, 2003, Tetteh left his home for Ntowkrom with a gun hidden under his armpit and, while heading towards Ntowkrom, he saw the deceased with a lady in the dark.

Tetteh then laid ambush and later shot and killed Dartey when he was returning home.**

Boy make your point with FACTS, don't talk like a primary school drop out.
I don't live in Ghana and I didn't hear about the car accident. If someone dies in an accident it is the duty of his family to bury him. There are hundreds of thousands of Ghanians in Nigeria. If a Ghanaian dies in Nigeria the Ghanian union will come in only if the person is a member of their club or union. Otherwise Ghanaian union will not be traveling all over Nigerian roads looking for dead people to bury. Your argument is as dumb as your intelligence.

So it is my duty to travel round Ghana to bury dead people? My union in Ghana is to help our members first. We also help Nigerians that seek help one way or another. If truly a Nigerian died why didn't you take the case to Nigerian embassy in Accra? Are you that daft?

SInce you say Ghana is better than Nigeria why didn't you give us reasons with FACTS instead of talking trash? I have given you enough reason and evidence but you only talk like a tout. A country that cannot feed itself, a country that imports common items like fruits and vegetables, a country that blame Nigerians for having oil but no refinery yet they have gold and export the gold in raw quantity without refining it? They have cocoa but Ghana spends whooping $32m to Import Cocoa Bags (http://ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/artikel.php?ID=258475) I mean fuking cocoa bags that Aba people can produce in abundance...

A country where their politicians are looting and stealing and they blame foreigners, especially Asians and Nigerians for their woes. I have domiciliary accounts in Ghana do you know it is taking me weeks now to move some of my money from Ghana to Nigeria bc their cedis is loosing alot of value and the fuked up government is looking for ways to control it. I have to beg to have my money in dollars, they want me to receive it in cedis?

A country where everything in the country is owned by foreigners. I mean everything that looks a little bit good in ghana is foreign owned. All banks foreign owned, all airlines foreign owned, all shopping malls foreign owned, all cinemas, big supermarkets, hotels, trading stores etc are foreign owned?

Don't you realize that Nigeria is Ghanas newest colonial masters? Otherwise tell me why there are Nigerian flags in every big shop in Ghana including hotels, boutiques, restaurants, car shops and even drinking spots. Look around you in Kumasi or Accra where ever you are you will see Nigerian made products everywhere including Nigerian made cement, gala, drugs, la casera, bathing soaps and cream, noddles etc. Turn around again you will see lots of Nigerian banks, insurance companies, airlines, IT companies, hotels, nite clubs etc.

Ghana Does not have any satellite backbone to connect the internet, so WITHOUT NIGERIANS SAT3 SUBMARINE CABLE AND MAIN ONE CABLE GHANIANS CANNOT ACCESS THE INTERNET. This means if we shut down our submarine cables today Ghanaians will not have internet access again because every internet facility in Ghana is routed through Nigerian networks. THESE ARE FACTS... Scan all TV and radio stations in Ghana right now 80% of them are showing Nigerian movies or playing Nigerian jamz bc 9ja rocks. These are FACTS...

The best and only standard newspapers you see in Ghana are Nigerian made, the Ghana dailies are printed in black and white even in this 21st century. Look around again 70% of all expensive flashy cars in Ghana are owned by Nigerians. We own and live in the most expensive houses in Ghana, drive the most expensive cars and fuk their best and most educated girls, this is why them short ghana boys hate us with passion and my wife confirms this.

Even 419 scam we introduced to Ghana is feeding millions of Ghanians directly and indirectly. Ghana boys used to drive only 1998 made Toyota cars bc they are too poor to afford expensive cars. Today Ghana boys can afford to buy range rover sports from their 419 scam proceeds. What has Ghana given to Nigeria apart from alomo bitters and their prostitutes that charge cheaper rate.
THANK GOD I AM A SMART NIGERIAN MAN THAT KNOWS HOW TO MAKE MONEY AND HOW TO SPEND IT. THAT GOD FOR THE SWAGG.

THE BIGGEST HOSPITAL IN GHANA, Korle-Bu sells sperms BC THE DOCTORS ARE UNDERPAID?

The sale of sperm to women desirous of having children is now brisk business at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, the Ghanaian Times investigations have revealed.

The times gathered that more than 60 women, including some from Togo, Benin, Nigeria and Cameroon visit the hospital every month to purchase the sperm for fertilization.

A source at the hospital who spoke to the Times on condition of anonymity, said many women called at the hospital daily to enquirer about the sperm and arrange for its purchase.

A syringe-sized container of sperm is sold between GHC2,000 and GHC3,000 and this has attracted a lot of young men to the hospital who serve as donors. These donors are between the ages of 18 and 45 years.

The business, the source said, started unofficially about five years ago and had become lucrative for young energetic students and others who are eager to make money.

Although the hospital is under resourced, and do not officially have a sperm bank, medical practitioners have been able to use their ingenuity to perform successful sperm fertilization.

Speaking to the Times, a medical expert at the hospital, who asked not to be named, said the donors were taken through series of blood test and sperm analysis to ensure that their sperm did not contain any disease that could be passed on to the customer.

“We further check the hereditary of the person to ensure that the family did not suffer from diseases such as epilepsy, deafness and other serious medical ailments before the sperm is donated,” the source said.

It further noted that, most of the women who want to purchase the sperm were concern about the ethnic background of the donor, explaining “that a woman who has a Fanti husband would like the sperm from a Fanti man”.

“Other women also prefer a sperm from a Northern, Ewe, Ashanti or Ga because they are married to men from those ethnic backgrounds,” it added.

The source said single women and foreign women who patronized the sperms preferred sperms from tall and dark male donors.

It said others also like to look at the background of the donor, such as profession, physical appearance and status in society.

The source noted that, though most women come alone for insemination, others are also encouraged by their husbands to undergo such exercise due to their inabilities to make them pregnant.

Other men, the source said, look for donors for their wives to be sure that the specific sperm would be used for fertilization.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Korle Bu, Mr. Mustapha Salifu, said the authorities were unaware of such practices in the hospital, and added that it would not be surprising that some doctors would engage in such practices.

He said it would be illegal for doctors in the health profession to use the hospital to engage in such illegal activities.

He indicated however that, the hospital had plans of establishing a sperm bank and that until that was done, such activities would be regarded as illegal at the hospital.

Selling sperm is completely legal in most countries except Australia and Vatican City, however in Ghana it could raise numerous religious, social, health and legal debates.

Some religious leaders had agitated in the past that, a married woman who purchased sperms from another man could invite the intrusion of the other man's seed into herself.

This act they consider as adulterous, even if the husband consented to the purchase.

Health and safety issues associated with sperm donation have also been raised. This is because donors are generally required to present extensive family and personal medical data about genetic disorders, as well as medical evaluation including screening for sexually transmitted diseases.

Legal issues could be raised as well. That is, if the sperm donor has access to the woman's identity by claiming to be the biological father of the child when the child becomes successful in life.

THE PRESIDENT OF GHANA HAS 37 CHILDREN FROM 12 DIFFERENT WOMEN?

A slippery character…This is President Mahama, a serial womanizer who had to be warned to stop his 'playboy ways.' He has admitted it is tempting to see beautiful ladies. His father, a polygamist had over nineteen children with different women.

Against this background, we don’t expect Mr. President to be different. But he is wasting our scare national resources on women. He has been showering his mistresses with expensive cars and houses in home and abroad.

The danger to Ghana is not POLYGAMY, which is an African culture but a citizenry capable of entrusting a pathological womanizer like him with the Presidency. President Mahama is evidently stealing what belongs to the poor with his financiers and numerous mistresses by that lifestyle.

He has been involved in extra-marital affairs that apparently resulted in a string of children outside his marriage. There is controversy over the number of children that he has actually fathered, including the Dansoman girl. Honestly, the President does not know the number of children he has now – the same way a reckless driver will not be able to tell the number of accidents he has been involved in. There is this case about some children whose Mum is a member of the Presbyterian Church. Even when the Church threatened to write to the former President on his irresponsibility in not taking care of children he had fathered with the woman, the President began face-saving measures for a time and up till date has stopped taking care of the children. This is apart from the girl at Cantonments. His secondary school house master paints a picture of a man who 'had an eye for the ladies' and, according, to his bully at Achimota School, Ezra Mahama had to be warned several times to stay away from girls at the school. His father was giving him money for discos, Mahama even wrote that in his book “My First Coup d’état.”

The President has 'been running around with several girls since divine intervention handed him the Presidency, a ‘youth’ at age 54. When cautioned about his playboy ways by Mr. Rawlings, the President replied that he would "try" to stay away from the girls.

His wife once allegedly stated that the President is wild when it comes to chasing women. It is common knowledge that he is in bed with a former MP and Minister.

He is further described as 'a slippery character', and his relationships with 'several women' are discussed and investigated, while questions about his 'marital problems' are repeatedly raised.

The President recently confirmed having fathered several children out of wedlock but Mrs. Lordina Mahama understands that he can’t keep his zip close. Mahama sees no problem about having children out of wedlock. No wonder, he has been the main conspirator in all the corruption cases and bribery.

The moral crusade began by the National Democratic Congress has just began. More anon…

How NDC Made Ghana No.1 In Drug Trafficking In Africa

Accra - Ghana has become number one among African countries in narcotic drugs
trafficking. This was disclosed by the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports,
Professor Patrick Addy, at the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop on
"eradicating streetism in the next millennium"
Prof. Addy said many Ghanaians have become so money-minded and grossly materialistic
that they behave as if our main objective in life is money.
Because of this people have resorted to bad modes of acquisition of wealth such that
scores of Ghanaians export or attempt to export Indian hemp.
____________________________
The drug menace that has tarnished the image of our country from the days of the
Rawlings NDC rule to the present Mahama administration should be tackled without
political grandstanding because when people ask you where you are from, you don't
reply NDC Ghana or NPP Ghana, we all get the same tarnished image and therefore our
Politicians especially the NPP and NDC Politicians should stop blaming each other
as having made
Ghana the number drug country in Africa, Ghana was

As you readers can see from the above, Ghana was rated number one drug trafficking
country long before NPP came to power in January 2001. Long before Amoateng, an NPP
member of Parliament from Nkoranza was busted in USA in 2004 trafficking in drugs,
an NDC diplomat by name of Frank Benneh dealt drugs on behalf of NDC and its just
sad NPP has allowed the NDC to take the moral highground when it comes to drug
smuggling and its use. BELOW are some snippets of Frank Benneh's drug case that
damaged the reputation of Ghana in the International community when he used his
diplomatic Passport as security to procure drugs which he dealt on NDC behalf to
purchase weapons for the NDC Militia that were used to silence political
opponents by the 64th battalion led by the present National Security Capo, Col(rtd)

General News of Monday, 12 February 1996

DIPLOMAT CHARGED WITH POSSESSING NARCOTICS

"Frank Benneh, a diplomat attached to Ghana's Permanent Mission at the United
Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, was today arraigned at an Accra Circuit Tribunal on
charges of possessing, trafficking, smoking and dealing in narcotic drugs.

The prosecution added that as the offences took place in Geneva and accused was
arrested by Swiss Police and deported to Ghana, Interpol in Switzerland has been
contacted to provide the police with a full report on the accused for further
action.

Mr Sarpong said on January 18, the Swiss Police arrested two drug addicts and during
a search of their apartment, the diplomatic passport of the accused was found with
them. The addicts, Oxbora Tunc, a Swiss, and Lucas Bartaiha, a Portuguese, according
to the prosecution, admitted that apart from purchasing five grammes of cocaine from
the accused, they also retailed 20 grammes of the drug on his behalf.

Mr Sarpong said the accused who left his diplomatic passport with the addicts as a
surety for the payment of heroin, told the Swiss Police that he was having an affair
with a woman who lived in Paris, and that the woman supplied him with cocaine. The
prosecution said as the diplomatic immunity of the accused could not be waived for
him to stand trial in Geneva, the head of Ghana's Narcotics Control Board was
despatched to Switzerland to bring him down to face trial.

The case which has been captioned the "Big Diplomatic Scandal" by some of the
private papers hit the newstands last week. Some of the papers alleged that Benneh,
younger brother to the respected Professor George Benneh, Vice Chancellor of the
University of Ghana, was running the drugs to buy arms for the NDC controlled
militia.
"Chronicle" further alleged that because of government's complicity in the scandal,
Benneh was being housed at the Liberty Court Hotel, at the tax payers expense, and
was later to be moved into state lodgings instead of being sent to the Police"

You can call this whatever you want, equalizaqtion or whatever but I will call it
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT.

Since the inception of the 1992 constitution, there has not been any government that
has not been scandalized by this drug menace and the recent drug bust at Heathrow
Airport in London should be a concern to all Ghanaians whether NDC, NPP, CPP, NDP,
PPP or whatever because those of us who travel in and out of our bases abroad to
Ghana go through hassles and demeaning searches because of where we come from. This
is not the time for the General Secretaries of the two biggest Parties in Ghana to
resort to this childish play as to which Party has a right to talk about the drug
problem or not.. Asiedu Nketiah calling Sir John of NPP as a “concert man” to wit a
joker is ridiculous when this former Palmwine Tapper look and sound like a sorry
Comedian.

Folks, Ghana was made Africa number one drug country during Rawlings NDC rule and we
are still fighting to get rid of that tag and large consignment of drugs that passed
through Kotoka without detection is not helping our cause. I am rather surprised the
owner of owners of drugs are still incognito despite the fact that, an invoice was
filled showing what the goods were and the owners of the goods and where the
consignment was going to, this should not be hard to find out so why is the
government mum on this information? "ASEM BEBA DABI"

Just last month, FBI Bust Ghana Airport Security Capo

The Saga of Cocaine Trade At Kotoka Airport

FBI Bust Airport Security Capo

… Handcuffed and airlifted from Accra to Washington Over drugs

Story By Dominic Jale

America’s veritable Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), chest-deep with fighting the global war against illicit drugs only three months ago, flew the miles to Ghana to track down and eventually nab one Edmond Darkwah, a shift commander of AVSEC SECURITY who is also employed by the Ghana Airport Company. Veritable sources within the corridors of the Airport Company say on this occasion the world-acclaimed FBI agents flew down with hardcore evidence that could convince even the devil, leaving the powers-that-be in the country no option than to help arrest the lad in handcuffs and chains.

THE GHANAIAN SUN’s pieces of information pieced together indicates that, having had Darkwa in chains and handcuffs the Americans rushed him through BOARDING PASS GATE 4 of the Kotoka International Airport with the three FBI AGENTS around 10 pm of that fatal night, and was straightaway bundled into a Delta Airline flight, from where he was flown to Washington DC for further investigations. A top National Security operative who dodged every conceivable question thrown at him wondered just how THE GHANAIAN SUN got wind of the story and instead insisted repeatedly that, at the appropriate time Ghanaians would be informed of the keener details of the matter.

However a management member of GAC confirmed the arrest of shift commander Darkwah, but refused to speak to the details of the issue. According to our sources at GCA, before the FBI agents flew down to pick Darkwa, a middle-aged woman who posed as a cripple had earlier been busted at JFK Airport with drugs. THE GHANAIAN SUN learnt that after the arrest of the woman (whose name is not readily available to the paper), Shift Commander Darkwah’s name popped up as the syndicate behind her nefarious activities.

The story so hot on the coal pot has it that, the middle-aged woman who was busted at the JFK Airport before she boarded the Delta Airline in Accra for the US had earlier been sighted in the wheel chair with Darkwah, allegedly supporting her as a physically challenged person.

In that space of time, Darkwah is said to have pushed the wheel chair together with its occupant into the plane after going through travel formalities. As the two embarked on the trick, all who saw the woman in question thought she was a cripple until the flight landed at the JFK Airport. Over there, informed sources on the flight who were privy to the earlier trick found out to their chagrin that, she abandoned the wheel chair the moment the flight touched the tarmac at JFK.

Instead according to THE GHANAIAN SUN’s security sources the woman suddenly became amused as soon as the Delta Airline touched base, giggling like a girl in her sweet teens and in the process snubbing her wheel chair perhaps in cognizance of the fact that, she had played a fast one on everyone else in reaching a very lucrative goal.

This attitude naturally raised lots of questions for it alerted the air crew of the airline to report her to the security agents around, who wasted no time in picking Darkwah’s guest. Lo and behold when she was searched, a quantity of drugs was found in her traveling bags.

THE GHANAIAN SUN has gathered that while she was being held, Darkwah’s name popped up like a cock that could not be submerged even by the heaviest of lead. Around that same time, intelligent reports put together confirmed that Darkwah was on phone calling on a number of occasions to find out if all was through. In the process the USA security agents managed to track him down through the magic of intelligence work, following which they alerted their Ghanaian counterparts about the happening and the need to arrest Darkwa and fly him over to the USA for investigations. This and other developments preceding it seem to have informed the USA Ambassador to Ghana who has on occasions raised deep concerns about Ghana losing the fight against illicit drugs.

Only last week, a quantity of cannabis said to be the highest ever to have been arrested in the United Kingdom was traced until its roots were discovered to be from Ghana. Even though Darkwah was picked, other members of the syndicate operating within the security set-up at the Kotoka International Airport seem to have intensified their operations, leading to arrest of the huge cannabis hurl in London last week, a source which further confirmed the event leading to the arrest of Darkwah said while pleading anonymity.

An elderly man who witnessed the dramatic event and how Darkwah was airlifted with chained legs and handcuffed hands, recalled the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade of yester-year and how blacks were shipped to Europe and America, except that this time around “ the circumstances for the chaining, handcuffing and airlifting is different”, he told THE GHANAIAN SUN.-

Biggest cannabis haul from Ghana seized at Heathrow Airport

Border officers at Heathrow Airport have made their biggest cannabis seizure in three years after containers arriving on a plane from Ghana were found with drugs worth £4.3million.

The drugs, which weighed around 1.5 tonnes and had a street value of £4.3 million, were found in three separate freight containers filled with fresh fruit and vegetables.

Border Force officials found the cannabis in tape-wrapped compressed packages within boxes on the flight from Accra on Monday.

After being seized the drug was taken under armed escort to a secure location, where it will be stored until it is incinerated.

Marc Owen, Heathrow Director for Border Force, said: “This was smuggling on an industrial scale. It is a significant quantity of cannabis, our biggest seizure of this kind in several years at Heathrow.

“The fact we have stopped it reaching the streets of the UK will make a substantial dent in the profits of the criminals responsible.

“The international drug trade is a vile business that Border Force officers play a key part in disrupting.”

Officers are trying to discover the intended destination of the drugs.Anyone with information should call 0800 59 5000.

Corruption galore! GHC230, 000 for MPs furniture

The Mahama-Amissah-Arthur led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Monday brought to Parliament for approval, a US$26.5 million loan agreement as additional funding for furniture, fixtures and fitting for Members of Parliament for the completion of “Job 600”.

This translates into some GHC230, 434 for the provision of furniture and fittings for every MP's office. Analysts who spoke to The New Statesman on this have described this as “inflated and possibly riddled with corruption”.

The loan agreement presented to Parliament is between the government of Ghana and Fidelity Bank.

This loan agreement is part of a whopping $417.17 million worth of loans presented by President John Mahama and his ruling National Democratic Congress for approval.

It is recalled that before Parliament rose on the August 16, a total of $2 billion worth of loans were approved. As of July 2012, Ghana's total debt stood at GHC28.3 billion, with analysts stating that it was set to rise to some GHC35 billion by December 2012.

The list of loans presented by the NDC government to Parliament includes a loan of $40 million between the government of Ghana and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development, and the Bank of Brazil supported by the Brazilian Official Equalization Programme to finance the civil engineering works related to the construction of roads comprising the Eastern Corridor Road Project.

Others are the $200 million agreement between the government, Barclays Bank, CAL Bank, Bank of Africa (GH) Limited, Bank of Baroda, Ghana Commercial Bank, Merchant Bank, the Trust Bank, Unibank (Ghana) Limited for the financing of the construction of 4,120 affordable housing for the public services of Ghana.

This implies that the average cost of a house is pegged at $48,453 or GHC97,087. The house has been described as “certainly unfordable for the average Ghanaian worker” by housing analyst contacted by this paper.

Another loan worth 43,784,093.97 Euro will also be presented to Parliament, and the agreement is between the government and HSBC for the Turnkey Redevelopment of the Ghana Police Hospital.

A loan of 50 million Euros to finance the execution of the Kpong Generation Station Retrofit Project has also been submitted to Parliament for approval.

As though this was not enough, a loan amounting to 13,735,800 Euro between the government of Ghana and the KBC Bank NV, Belgium, has also been presented to Parliament for the implementation of a Technology-based learning solution.

Special Report: Confessions of a GHANIAN gold scammer

“The fraud business is like the Al-Qaeda network. Al-Qaeda has a motive and mission of revenge. In our case, it is revenge on what the colonial masters did to our grandparents in the olden days.

"That is the money that we are collecting back from them (through the scams). When they came to Africa, they carried our grandparents and gave just one bottle of wine and left. Now we are taking the money back. We are taking the money back. All the work that our grandparents did in America, in London, in Europe, we are coming back to collect the money. That is the motive and the mission. ”

That was the summary of mission and purpose, given by a gold scammer who spoke to our ace investigative reporter, Anas Aremeyaw Anas in an hour-long interview during our recent investigations (with Al Jazeera) into the issue of gold scamming in Ghana.

The gold scammer, who granted the interview on condition of anonymity, revealed the inner workings of the criminal underworld. He also gave insights into the scammer’s mind, motivations and challenges.

“It’s a big work. Involves money, involves ideas. Most of the people who scam have good degrees. We have marketers, we have banking and finance. We have lawyers, we have engineers; but because of what? It’s because there isn't any employment for them”, he revealed.

HOW THE SCAMMING NETWORK OPERATES

It may appear to be the work of a few individuals engaged in a life of defrauding others; but this is far from the reality that persists. The New Crusading GUIDE’s interview with the gold scammer, brings evidence that the gold scamming comprises of several network across the world. Like most organized crimes, this network is composed of some professionals and institutions which knowingly (sometimes unknowingly) contribute to and benefit from the successes of their operations. In Ghana, the network is composed of lawyers, police officers, customs officials, banking institutions, government offices and officials, politicians and traditional rulers. As revealed by our investigations, the hour-long interview with this scammer further lifts the lead off the operation of these scammers. Here are excerpts:

Anas: So what kind of network are we talking about? And how big is this network?

Gold Scammer: What I can say is that this scamming or fraudster network is like Al-Qaeda. In Ghana, outside Africa, Europe, Asia and Arab states, we are working together as one.

Anas: How many people are we talking about?

Gold Scammer: Many people, massive numbers of people. This business is not only for one group, there is division of labour.

Anas: Who are the victims, where do they come from?

Gold Scammer: A victim can be anybody. ..it can be you! Can by father; a minister, can be an outside person – anybody who wants to buy and sell gold. The most important thing is that victims fall because of their greediness. That is why they fall. Everybody knows the price of gold in the market, but when they come to Ghana, they want to buy gold at the lower price.

Anas: So which people do you normally get as victims?

Gold Scammer: We get a lot people to defraud from Europe, Asia, and any part of the world and they want to come and buy and sell the gold. We got America in the business too much. Americans are most of the people victim in this area; more than any other country. Asia and Arab states follow.

Anas: So how many millions of dollars have you seen people be defrauded?

Gold Scammer: Many people, it depends on the quantity of the gold you need. .. because if you want a tonnes of gold, people will sell it to you...if you want 100kg, 50kg, 2 tonnes, we will get it for you. Any amount of gold that you want. People lose money! 10 million, 5 million, 5m U. S Dollar, 5m pounds, 5m Euros, people lost.

Anas: Is it one person?

Gold Scammer: One person can lose it. One person can lose 1, 2,3 million dollars. It depends on what quantity of gold you are looking for.

A GOLD SCAMMER’S ROADMAP OF FRAUD

Anas: Can you tell me how it is done; from the beginning to the end?

Gold Scammer: From beginning to end, it is just as simple as selling and buying in any business. In the beginning, you contact someone through a proposal, or a letter. Or send a letter by post to the victim’s address. If they reply, everything starts. Send them the documents, stick it in the email. After we satisfy what I have said about the gold, I have satisfied the price and all the information I have given to you. They arrive in Ghana for dispensing.

First we tell them not to pay all the money, just come to pay only the shipment fees; but when you arrive, the story will change. After the story changes, I will take you to the mining site.

When we go to the mining site I explain that we need to buy gifts for the chiefs, and the community. You can buy rice, oil, so many things for presentation to the chief. ..and wine, gin; you buy it and present it to them.

Chief welcomes you, do everything for you. From there you are out of the place. They start the business, they show you gold. After you accept, you pick your sample and go back to Accra.

From the village down to Accra, you test. Though you were already informed to come and will only pay shipment fees, but after, the chief and the villagers say they need some money before the gold can be moved. You are made to pay 10%, 20%, 40% of the full price. You feel like paying, because you have already seen the truth.

After that, you need to pay. If you don't have the money, you will call because you have already seen the goods. Cough up the money, after you pay the processes start for the shipment.

We meet later meet at office. That's the office we are using. After that, we will present everything for you to pick the sample from the gold. Take it to the Geological, PMMC, Asavasa or any refinery in Ghana that you want.

Anywhere you take it, there are insiders over there. Any result will come out in our favour so you can believe that what we are doing is good.

After you are satisfied with the test, or the result of the gold sample, we ask you to pay the money, the shipment fees. We take you to the shipping agency. We decide how the money will be entered by card or by cash, and don't forget that the shipping agent is also part of the network.

From there, we move to the airport. When at the airport, a messenger from the community will arrive saying that that the chiefs say no; the community wants part of the money to be paid before the gold can be shipped. They would say “you cannot just come to Africa and come and carry their gold, without paying anything”, even though you paid at least 20% or 30% before leaving them. So everything goes back to the office or is kept with the Custom officials at the airport, or you can ask for safe keeping at a bank.

If it ever gets shipped, remember what is shipped to you is not pure gold. If 5 kilos is shipped, maybe 2 kilos or 1.5 kilo is genuine. When it reaches there, maybe your friend or your partner gets the gold and goes to do the tests. They confirm that only one kilo or so is genuine.

We then say it’s not our fault, it’s the airlines fault. The airline, many airline, we pay money. Many servers company we pay them in this matter. That’s how everything we do from beginning to end. It appears to be legal. All the procedure seems legal from the way the government gives its procedures down to how to buy, how to ship, how to move the good out of Ghana. Every procedure is carefully planned.

But the end is the last show. If you are not there I cannot just explain it until you are on ground and you will see, what is going on. Everybody in this world needs money. We cannot just call it corruption, it’s just a gift. People receive a gift to add to their own salary. We influence them with what we have, to get what we want from them.

In Bank, in Customs, in PMMC, in any refinery, even customs officer. To get what we want, we have to satisfy our own links, that’s the way it is.

Anas: So from the bank what else happens? How do we get to that end?

Gold Scammer: The person will finally be defrauded when, that is where we will call a scam. From the beginning to the bank, it is genuine. If the client doesn't pay, he has not been defrauded.

Let me just give you some little idea of how they change from real to fake. They have two types of gold that everyone knows in the world. You have gold bar, and dust. Its easy to defraud clients on bar than dust.

Bar made with iron, covered with gold water. And even they have acid proof, to secure the quality of the gold; because when they come down with the acid to test the bar. When you put the acid, the bar starts to shine, shinier like original.

For the dust the only way to change let’s say a hundred kilos, maybe only one or two kilos are genuine inside, and they will put your real bit on top. All the 99 below are fake.

After you have already accepted the result of the test of the gold we give you a padlock to lock the box by yourself and hold the key. We have another box with the same colour and same padlock key, and we change it with yours.

Usually, that one is not real gold inside, just ordinary sawdust, or paper, or brass for you to go and ship at the airport. People are there who will ship it for us.

Anas: When you get to the airport, won't the customs ask you, what is inside?

Gold Scammer: We use money to influence anybody, to get what we want. There are insiders everywhere.

Anas: Don't you leave traces that will lead to your arrest?

Gold Scammer: We rent the offices to use for just one week when the client is around, so they cannot trace it. And even the car we are using is not our own personal car. ..it’s usually a rental car. And most of the cars are not registered cars. We use temporary DV number plates for running about. After he will dismantle everything after the scam.

Anas: We sometimes hear that you are able to use lawyers?

Gold Scammer: It depends on clients. If the client wants the lawyer to secure his service here in Ghana, we acquire a lawyer for him. Sometimes, we acquire a real lawyer to keep him, to just know that this is what is going on. Sometime people pretend, by being an imposter using somebody’s name.

Anas: Is it an easy thing? Don't you get caught by the police?

Gold Scammer: Caught by police? That’s why I told you earlier that we use what we have to be able to move. In police language, the police have (fell to hostisay? ?). Police are here to keep the law; we are here to dismantle the law. And the two of us, in the face of everybody are cat and rats but at the back, we are one. Not all. ..most. We are using it to get what we want.

In this scammer game, there are three things that follow it – money. You get your money... if you don't get money, you can be caught by police or put inside jail, or some people die. They can be caught by some area boys, beaten to death. It's not easy to get caught because any amount of money that you collect from the clients, we have a certain percentage to give to any group. That if any case rises up, we can bring the case down.

We have the lawyer that we are paying a monthly salary to. If anything happens, the lawyer will come and defend us... we are paying his salary every month. We have police people that are given information. That is what is there.

We can buy anyone. Anybody: official, police, immigration, custom to get what we want. We even use immigration to get cable visa. We get visa without coming down from the Ghana embassy.

Most people coming here are not coming for gold. I will let you know that about 80% of taxi drivers at the airport are working for us. When they pick a foreigner from the airport to the hotel, they start asking questions about what they want in Ghana. If you want to buy gold I can introduce you etc. If the person doesn't want, the driver gives us the hotel number. If they buy a SIM card for the phone, he is the one who communicates with the person and gives the number to you. He'll say let me have your number, call me, I will take you out. The taxi driver will come and give us the information. We then plan to defraud the person.

Anas: Don't you feel guilty that you are ruining people’s lives?

Gold Scammer: It’s a big question. You know, I don't how to put it. When you want to plant a seed, the seed needs to spoil before it can germinate a big new thing out. When I need something, I need to quell before somebody, for me to go up. You need to use some people as a step for you to reach where you are going. It’s already there in the bible. ..that you collect from somebody that has, to get for what I need. You read you r bible yea, it’s there. No matter what you want to do in this life, you have to climb somebody as your step case to get to the top.

BRIBE OFFERINGS TO SILENCE THE STORY

Meanwhile, some of the scammers and their partners have contacted The New Crusading GUIDE offering sums of money to stop the publication of the story. In separate calls to our investigative reporter, Anas Aremeyaw Anas and the Editor-in-Chief, Kweku Baako Jnr, frantic efforts are being made by the scamming network to influence the newspaper’s editorial independence.

Recordings made by The New Crusading GUIDE regarding these developments show the scammers calling to offer the investigative reporter $20,000 as a preliminary bribe to stop the story’s publication. The scammers, who wanted a meeting in the night at a secret location somewhere in Osu with the reporter, promised to pay some more money if the reporter is interested.

The reporter and the newspaper have however stated in no uncertain terms to remain true to the journalistic duty of being a voice to the voiceless and shinning light on the dark places in society.

Mighty Jets' Owner Arrested by NACOB

The owner of Tudu Mighty Jets, a premier league club based in Accra, has been arrested in the fallout of the nabbing of 15 Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) operatives stationed at the Kotoka International Airport.
Abubakar Nallah, fondly known as Abu Sundoko, in his early 30s, is the bankroller of the premier club, having nurtured it from a humble beginning to its present status.
It is thought that Fatimatu Abdulai, one of the NACOB staffers believed to be the contact person between the anti-narcotic agency and the drug barons, dealt with the club owner and therefore mentioned his name during interrogations at the BNI.
Others who have fallen to the security agents in the crackdown are Jerry John Abio, Mutawakilu Yahaya Iddi, Dennis Adu Twum Gyimah and Timothy Abolimpo.
Some police personnel attached to the National Security were also arrested over their involvement in the case. They are L/Cpl Eric Akufo Darko, Sgt Peter Ansong and L/Cpl Yakubu Issaka.
A soft-spoken personality, according to those who know him, Abu Sundoko has interests in a number of businesses, among them jewelry.
A Tudu boy born of a Nigerian father but living outside the place now, he is a wealthy young man whose transfer of players has changed the fortunes of the club.
He is known to be a close associate of the Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Jordan Anagbla, with whom he runs the now lucrative club whose training base is Akosombo in the Eastern Region. Jordan Anagbla is the CEO of the club.
DAILY GUIDE has further learnt that he was earlier arrested and released, but rearrested as some pointers in the ongoing probes into the drug market landed on him.
The head of NACOB, Akrasi Sarpong disclosed that a decision was taken to keep the name of the young man under the lid to ensure a hitch-free investigation.
This however did not work and the details were finally released yesterday.
Another Tudu youth, Abubakar Ayuba made an appearance before an Accra court on Monday charged with the possession of a quantity of rolls of a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine.
The Accra suburb of Tudu is indeed notorious for harbouring small-time drug peddlers who sell the stuff on behalf of barons that have left the area for more plush parts of town.
Drug barons, it is a known fact, make their money through the illicit export of the stuff by couriers.
A man who arrived in the country recently, after supposedly serving a jail-term in the US, is said to have picked up a quarrel with the baron whose “goods”, as the stuff is known in the local underworld, he had taken abroad.
The baron demanded the proceeds but when the courier said the demand was nonsensical since the mission failed, a quarrel ensued. Security agents are said to have picked a lead from the development.
A DAILY GUIDE report yesterday had it that 15 staffers of NACOB operating at the Kotoka International Airport were arrested and detained in BNI cells for conniving with drug dealers.
One of the peddlers, a white man arrested in Amsterdam, had sung so loudly that investigators were able to lay hands on the drug enforcement officers, ironically.

CONFESSIONS OF GHANIAN SCAMMER- I Killed 28 Family Members Through Juju

Residents of Atobiase, a farming community near New Edubiase in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region, were numb with shock on Monday morning following the discovery of strange circumstances that have led to a series of deaths in one family unit.

Twenty-eight persons, comprising 18 women and 10 men from the Aduana clan at Adansi-Atobiase, within a space of a few years, had been untimely dispatched to their graves by a charm that was said to have been buried at the centre of the family house.

Kofi Appeaning, a member of the family, who is also the Ankobeahene of the community, purportedly confessed to placing the juju pot for purposes of money ritual popularly called “sakawa.”

The substance had since been removed from the belly of the earth, but not after it had allegedly killed parents of the Ankobeahene as well as his siblings, nephews and children, without the anticipated money, because the protagonist had flouted the rules of the juju.

The Adansi Kuntumpa fetish priest, based at Patakro near Akrokerri, who performed the necessary rituals which involved incantations and slaughtering of rams to appease ‘the money-ritual’ god, also had his share of trauma, as the charm reportedly jerked him and he fell flat to the ground in his first attempt to remove it.

Deputy head of the clan, Stephen Kwaning told newsmen shortly after the ritual exercise at the Atobiase community that a certain pastor revealed the ritual acts of Kofi Appeaning, who is also an auto-electrician at Obuasi, to the family 25 years ago, but they never believed him.

According to him, the pastor made the revelation when the alleged ‘sakawa man’ fell sick and was sent to the man of God for spiritual healing.

Opanin Kwaning said the family started recording a series of deaths to the amazement of everybody in the community, thereby heightening suspicions that the auto-electrician’s money ritual was responsible for the deaths; even though he initially denied this.

He narrated that the family became alarmed when they counted 28 deaths in a space of 25 years, with at least one death every year.

The clan head indicated that the family was compelled to consult the oracle for answers shortly after the 28th death.

At the shrine, he said, it was revealed that a money ritual charm buried under the cover of darkness by the auto-electrician, who wanted to get rich quick, was responsible for the deaths and until it was removed, the family could not bury the fresh corpse; and they risked another death if they defied the order.

The Abusia Panin narrated that Kofi Appeaning popularly called Kegya confessed before the oracle about the ritual he had performed and declared his preparedness to support its removal.

And it was that exercise, spearheaded by the Adansi Kuntumpa fetish priest, which took place on the dawn of Monday, attracting curious and astonished residents to the scene.
