i totally understand what the OP is trying to say and it cut across almost all Naija hosting companies.

I have some sites hosted by Utiwares, their server was down for a day or so....i tried to reach them by their support portal, no reply....i sent a mail to them, no reply, i called them no responds as they refuse to answer the call.....the server later came back alive after a day, that is when they sent a general message about them fixing a problem....its not fair, i just wanted to be sure it was the server because first i was thinking i have messed up with one of the sites database before i noticed all my sites on the same Utiwares were down

mysticgal: what the heck are you people talking about?i dont understand.
Yeah! You won't understand cos this ain't some brazilian wig talk.
Back to topic, why not try syskay hosting. Those guys rock big time...no server downtimes at all. The only time there was a hitch was when some guy who hosted a scam site nearly put them in trouble and their boss was called in by the ICPC for interogation so he had to switch off some of the servers. Apart from that, i have never had any hitch with them for about 5yrs i've hosted.

Seun: The owner of Web4Africa is a great guy and a Nigerian. He had been hosting sites long before I started Nairaland, and he was one of our initial set of members. I think these sorts of issues are a result of Web4Africa's massive size. It's very difficult to hold the hands of your customers when there are thousands of them instead of a few dozen. If you have thousands of customers and 1% of them are unhappy, things appear much worse than when you have 1 unhappy customer out of 100. Don't forget that they achieved their scale in Nigeria by acquiring our biggest hosting site - Nairahost - which was also having issues with support due to its massive size. We are probably not qualified to tell them how to run their business, but I believe they will figure out how to implement fantastic customer support and uptime at their huge scale sooner than later.

If I may add, they host some of my sites and I received mails about the issues they are having. If there's anything I'm gonna give to them, is customer support. At least they keep me informed on what's going on.

Seun, they also acquired Alireta webhost. So, they really have a large client base.

digidamage: So since the 1st of April, all sites i have been hosting on web4africa have been down 90% of the time,

They are all Totally off now, i sent an email to their customer support, nobody replied..

With several clients on my neck and after loosing all patience ,today(thursday) i went to their Facebook page to complain again.

Instead of them to address the issue, the deleted my comment and rudely wrote

Please restrict your feedback to our support system. Email or chat. shocked

In other words.. If we are screwing-up, you have no right to say anything...

Meanwhile at least 3 of my clients run online-only business.. almost a whole working week is gone meaning a quarter of their income for this month is already lost...

It wasn't till after the Facebook Comment that i got an email..4 days after ...with 10 websites offline...that sad..

Hello,

Apologies.
We have identified and are busy fixing the problem.
Warm regards,

Oluniyi,
Web4Africa Support

Every business has challenges but if your server is down, shouldn't you immediately contact your clients and apologize??

This people think they are doing us a favor ooo.

Abeg moderator, carry this thread to front page if you can, these people tend to slack if they aren't getting bad press besides people need to be aware. Maybe it will teach them proper customer support

I just thought i should support our own and look where it got me? As annoying as it is, my major problem isn't the downtime(everyone has them, though typically not to this extent)..it's the intensely horrible customer service..

And i left my godaddy account for this ooo..At least they had reliable and sensible customer care

For those that like facts,...
At the moment even their own site is offline

http://www.web4africa.com.ng/
web4africa.net

and a few of mine that are offline
http://everywomanmag.com/
http://thefiliac.com/
http://www.gamenaija.com/
http://lkwedsgab.com/

are you doing wordpress based sites? if yes.....ill suggest you go with Wpengine...not cheap but....you will be very happy...with the up time and speed....

rufaai: First of all, i am not in any way affiliated with this company but i would like to highligh some key things for you.

1) Facebook page might not be their primary support desk or even a convenient way to give customer support. You should stick to their support portal.

2) If you have been hosting with them for a while now, you may want to take a look at your past records with them before you take a decission. If the server is down, be sure they have hundreds of clients to answer to on this issue aswell which could be unsual for their support staff.

3) Nairaland might not be of help to you specifically, try to sort out with them. Ask them what the problem is and how fast will they restore you.

If it takes longer than you can tolorate, then you can switch host. But it could be just a temporary issue you know.

If you are swiching, you may consider these hosts:

http://gigalayer.com - I work here
http://syskay.com
http://whogohost.com
http://qservers.com
http://lagoshost.com

At GigaLayer we can offer you efforless migration of all your accounts, settings, databases & emails for free and 6 months additional hosting to compensate your lost time at Web4Africa.

Unless I must build a .ng site, I will never host with any nigerian company. I love my peace and that of my customers.

Stay away from N500 a month host and building N5000 websites.

While I will support our own (web4Africa) but something bothers me, whenever I register domain on this website, it takes long minutes/hours before it becomes propagated/activated on the internet. So, I see them as a mere reseller with just lot of customers or with no physical machines who just depend on a hosting company abroad. I remember one time I registered a domain during the weekend but the domain did not propagate until the next Monday.

Godaddy is the best when it comes to domain registration. They have the best domain management system while Lunarpages is not bad at all when it comes to the world of hosting. My websites have been with Lunarpages for 4 years now and no single down time, though, on a dedicated server but at least I have another backup server on a shared hosting for about 2 years now, just renewed for additional two years today and no down-time as well. So, I can recommend them.

Men, my websites cannot be off-line for 1 day. I will... wink

Smartweb is another big headache on their own...imagine having downtime as much 200 times in a single day! It is that time that u want to show ur client infos on ur site that it will be down! As soon as I get my dollar mastercard sorted, am moving my stuff to bluehost!

AFOLSNETWORKS: I dumped this Ghana people a long time ago. Did u not google web4africa before u decided to choose them? Cos am sure if u did, u will find a whole lot of issues with their hosting down time.

My one cent advice is, transfer all ur domain to a reliable host. Das all.

Are u sure those guys are from Ghana or Somalia? I can't even mention how many initiatives they wrecked with their very nonsensical service.
@ op, u heard right? If u still want to stay in business, transfer your domains sharp sharp...those guys are dream killers. They don't even write good English...for real. sad

Ladies and Gents,

My name is Oluniyi, I manage Web4Africa.
I thought it might be wise to response to the post here.

Facebook is only a tool and businesses are open to using it the way they deem fit. While we welcome general feedback on Facebook, we prefer to handle specific technical problems through our support channels: email and live web chat. We specifically encourage all web hosting clients to email support [at] web4africa [dot] net regarding all web hosting issues. This is because the department is manned 24 hours every day by technically competent people who would respond and act in the most efficient manner. Our Support Team are not reachable by Facebook. We prefer to restrict support issues to our ticket system for proper tracking and future reference. Whilst we welcome all shades of genuine feedback, we are at liberty to delete insulting, distasteful or malicious comments on our Facebook page.

When Idamiebi posted on our Facebook wall, I encouraged him to email support [at] web4africa [dot] net specifically where we attend to technical issues with the highest priority. Instead, he emailed Sales. I only realized that 4th April morning, re-assigned it to Technical Support and gave a response myself.

Our own website[s] were not down at any point, as he is alleging. This can be verified from the Pingdom screenshot. Websites sometimes might not be accessible, specifically due to connectivity issues from one's ISP. I've experienced same countless times whenever I am in Nigeria.

It is interesting that he opened this thread after we already emailed him 3 times updating him about the progress of the fix. This was confirmed by an earlier poster:

Tgirl4real:

If I may add, they host some of my sites and I received mails about the issues they are having. If there's anything I'm gonna give to them, is customer support. At least they keep me informed on what's going on.

Seun, they also acquired Alireta webhost. So, they really have a large client base.

He creates the impression that we treat customers shabbily and don't take criticism well. Nothing could be further from the truth. Whilst it is perfectly understandable to be angry and to court public sympathy, exaggerating or spinning facts for the purposes of maximizing bad feelings towards others' businesses is something to think twice about as what goes around always comes around.

Better go for a vps hosting on hostgator or liquidweb. Always use web hosting that has a working live chat.
Re: Many Sites Hosted By Web4Africa Are Down by GraphicsPlus(m): 6:32am On Apr 05, 2013
@Olaniyi, u just came here to defend ur company. U didnt even care to apologize. I can see that ur reputation is more important to u than that of ur clients. Let's see how u can successful run a web hosting company without referrals from ur satisfied clients. What stopped ur company from sending an email informing and apologizing about the problem that same day it started? Why didnt u pick ur calls? Why didnt u reply messages sent to u? Instead of apologizing, u came here to tell us that what goes around, comes around. What does that mean? Is running a web hosting company a burden to u? I do not think u hav more clients than siteground.com, yet they give premium support to their clients. The issue is that most nigerians think that business is about getting money. No sir. Business is about building relationship with ur clients.
Re: Many Sites Hosted By Web4Africa Are Down by niyyie(m): 6:41am On Apr 05, 2013
@GraphicsPlus, Thanks for your feedback. We have been and are in the middle of apologizing to the affected customers directly, via email. Yes, this response was specifically to correct the deliberate exaggeration. It is not a platform for reaching our clients. Thanks again.

Realistically, I do not know much about Web4africa but from the response of NIYI, I think its a rubbish company, and I say this with no disrespect. U posted images claiming sites were never down, that the error is with Nigerian ISPs, and ur next post is that such sites have been restored- are u confused or what? Did u fix issues for the ISPs. There are no companies that don't experience issues, own up to them, apologize when necessary and resolve issues rather than playing pranks.
