chiover: Some people are just foolish. If your grandma was a good story teller, why didn't she publish a copy? An I.diot Sam

The Grand mother only told stories in her mother tongue she could not read or write in her mother tongue and English which was not really her fault since she was not privileged to go to school .

But rather than teach her grand mother English or send her to adult school to read and write or even translate her grand mother's works to English so that it can be read and appreciated and can be read all over the world and make Africans proud like Achebe did , this Dead horse only found his joy in killing a fellow African's work appreciated all over the world . The fool would have at least made a name rather than vent his misguided aggression on Achebe's work.

A typical yoruba character epitomized by their god Awolowo. What is this age- long character? To envy the sucess of other people, pull them down by any means and then benefit criminally from their hard work. Sam, if u don't like Achebe's story, then write ur own.

This is a good dissection of the man's weak and low grade body of work and relevance . The Nobel people saw his work and rightfully ignored everything. Obviously, his bitter, angry, divisive and tribalistic ways caught up to him..

Well sir, he is not the first great writer to miss out on the Nobel. In fact, the sheer class of all who have missed out on the Nobel Prize questions the very credibility of the Nobel Prize Comittee.

By the way Achebe lost out on the Nobel thanks to his courage to say the truth, he spoke for you, me and all Africans. He dared to challenge the European mindset as evidenced in Joseph Conrad' works.

Omatseyes criticism of Things Fall Apart and the late Achebe is a futile attempt to belittle a literary icon whose fame is global. Mr Sams degree in journalism is questionable without imputs from the works of Achebe. Achebe told the AFrican story to the world in more than 150 languages while Mr Sams mother sang lullabys to the little Sam which he compares to Achebes Things Fall Apart now as an adult. Achebes greatness does not depend on bigots like Mr Sam.

Typical loser talk. The fact that he was ignored year after year and decade after decade means he was never considered for the highest award in his line of based on the low quality of his work as clearly noted by Sam in his wonderful article..

If it was J.p Clark,Frederick Forsythe or Even Wole Soyinka maybe Funke Egbemode that was talking, i would have paid attention. But who the f**k is Omatseye?! NELSON MANDELA IN A TRIBUTE SAID THAT ACHEBE WAS THE WRITER THROUGH WHOSE BOOKS 'THE WALLS CAME DOWN' WHILE SOYINKA AND CLARK DESCRIBED HIM AS A 'BROTHER' AND 'DOUGHTY FIGHTER'
PROPHETIC IN HIS WRITINGS AND IMBUED WIT NATIVE WIT AND INTELLIGENCE. HE TWICE REJECTED NATIONAL HONOURS AND HAS WRITTEN TOMES LAMENTING THE SLIDE IN THE FORTUNES OF OUR GREAT COUNTRY NIGERIA. NOW WHO THE F**K IS SAM OMATSEYE? IS HE A RETARDD?

Sam Omatseye is an Itsekiri Man not a Yoruba man

I think achebe and soyinka are both great writers. Using the Nobel Prize to exert the greatness one has over the other is just naïve.

Arrow of God by Achebe and The Road by Soyinka are the best ever in my opinion.

First of all Achebe is a black man that wrote a novel that has been translated into over 50 languages worldwide. Achebe and Soyinka are great frends that hold nigeria at heart. remember that before Mamman Vatsa a fellow writer was to be killed for a phantom coup, achebe, soyinka, okigbo and some other top writers in nigeria went to the presidency to plead for the life of their fellow writer who was not an IGBO or a YORUBA but a nigerian by birth,a writer by profession and a human being with blood. babangida promised them to do something about it but hardly had they left the presidential villa when they heard that he had been shot and guess what these writers were all in the same car. did u notice unity amongst them.they exhibited unity and prayed that Mamman Vatsa the great poet be spared. if u think i am lieing ask Soyinka. Achebe's TFA will always be mentioned for all time when african literature is concerned just as we hear shakespear and remember the white man. we have to learn to appreciate our own and see beyond the veil of ethnicism and appreciate ourselves and praise those deserving praise. in the year that soyinka got the nobel prize, there was a meeting organized for african writers in sweden that was held as a forum to discuss african literature but achebe refused to attend saying that african literature should be discussed in africa or a place where african literature is highly regarded. one of the african writers then then said that singular protest from achebe made achebe lose out of the nobel winners..pls Sam that is talking, how many pple read his newspaper or his column sef....pls feel free to correct me wit facts and proofs...i will always appreciate our writers like achebe, soyinka, okigbo and vatsa and many others..no matter what people may say..until the lion begins to write his own story, the hunter will always dictate how things happened..

Though this is another depiction of the man's needless bitterness and anger, but it's another loser excuse to discolor the reason why he was never considered for the NOBEL.

Emperor_007: Why is it always a Yoruba person, what would want to deceive people by trying to rubbish the achievement of someone, who's a million times better than him/her?

If not that, they would pull up fake information and data just to make a deceitful point, why always them?.

So Sam Omatseye is now a Yoruba man. Your ignorance sticks out like a sore thumb

Following upon your logic, Ghandi was a failure. Know why? He never won the Nobel
Ever heard of James Joyce? He didn't win it
Marcel Proust? Ditto
John Updike? Ditto
Virginia Woolf? Ditto
Mark Twain? Ditto
Leo Tolstoy? Ditto
And many others!!!!

I don't suppose you recognise any of them, by your logic they are failures!

I don't suppose your hate will allow you to see beyond Awo. Awo, was a great man on many levels. But, he had his faults. Face that fact.

Sam is Tinubu's house boy. Well in Nigeria, every coconut head wanna be relevant by trying to pull down anoda. Just like el-rufai, fani kayode et al. They are all bunch of hungry flat belly bingos trying to massage their master's ego by pulling crap about "made" men. Well the world have given their verdict on Achebe, he has been crowned the father of African literature, who is Sam to question his works? Achebe wrote TFA at age 28, how old is Sam and can he tell us how many books he has written? HE IS A BIGOTED F00L!

The same omatseye that wrote this about an almost 100 yr old woman who had just buried her daughter?

The Awo son that many expected to take after the father was Olusegun, who unfortunately died in a car crash. We shall never know if he could have pulled it off. But the others have not shown much of the paterfamilias’ brio and depth. In the past decade, under this republic, they have blended with the wrong crowd. Even H.I.D, hobnobbed with Alao-Akala, who brought illiteracy to governance; with Oyinlola who turned the grace of office into a hell-hole of despots; with Daniel who could not arrest his quick fall into megalomania.
I wrote once that this woman whom Awo once described as the jewel of inestimable value has lost value to his cause. If he came back to life, he would have committed the extraordinary act of divorce after death. Even his newspaper, The Tribune, has so stumbled and fallen that it swims in Awo’s vomit.

Groucho Max, one of the funniest satirists in American history, said of a man that he got his looks from his father. Then he quipped, “He was a plastic surgeon.” That means the son is not his real son, or he did not inherit his natural looks. Ideologically, when we talk of Awo’s family, the chief inheritor is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the leader of all the others. He was the one who stuck his neck out. He could have lost his life or ended his career in politics. The so-called real Awolowos who bear his surname cannot come up for mention. They are Awolowos but not Awoists. They stabbed their father in the back. They have committed ideological parricide.
The only person that made a real try was Awolowo-Dosunmu in the early 1990s and she lost roundly. She was accused of trying to ride her father’s coattail. Political families are good for democracies. They can exemplify the high ideals of diligence, dignity, ideas, character. We have seen these in such families as the Kennedys, the Adamses, the Roosevelts, the Ghandis. They just don’t claim family. They appeal to the high ideals that endeared the families to their societies.
