I tell you. The entertainment industry in Nigeria is huge! Nollywood has to be amongst the highest employers of labour in Naija.

Are you being sarcastic? The entertainment industry is not that hugh. Take music for example, how many musicians are comfortable to rich. They cant be up to 100. On the other hand how many doctors , bankers, lawyers etc are comfortable to rich?

Don't study architecture in Nigeria,2reasons
1.CAD.Computer aided design applications has leverage the production of building and electrical drawings done on paper. Therefore people (mostly non architects) can draw their own design diagrams without consulting an architect. Also people can download building plans online for free. This is the result of a vast growing ICT world where Information technology is making people unemployed.

2. Secondly, architecture can't be fully exploited as a course in Nigeria,in developed countries, architects are known for design, architects draw building plans as well as Cars, machine parts, robots etc.architects are useful in a very developed economy

peleson: Don't study elect elect in unilag, mowete , mohammed n Co will make u hate u were very smart and brilliant
haha Mowie, AY, Mohammed, Okoro, Okafor, Daikpor, Adelabu etc etc etc. We all endured under them but eventually it seems to have been worth the wahala, most of my exclassmates that I am in touch with seem to be working in good roles, and a lot of them are actually working as Engineers in Telcos, ISPs and even the Power sector.Truth is even though the course itself isnt world-class heck even continent-class, the fact remains we are still the cream of the crop within the country.

ola_pluto: This kind of thread exposes our backwardness as a nation/people. All courses are important, as they all target different aspects of our existence. It is unfortunate that Science (and engineering) is almost dead in Nigeria. I see no reason why a graduate of Yoruba language should work in a bank. Yoruba, for example, is a markettable language. There are over a billion journals in science, none yet translated to Yoruba.
The only problem is the way our educational system has remained stagnant. If we were a dynamic people, we will have many diverse specialised areas of study which will be absolutely important to our existence.

All courses are important some place else but in not in Nigeria. In Nigeria, most courses are useless. Science and technology isn't dead in Nigeria, rather Yoruba or other linguistics are dead in Nigeria.

You see a Yoruba graduate working in a bank, not because there are no qualified people to fill that position, but because of corruption.

To be honest, there isn't any particular course that one should avoid at all costs, It all depends on you and what you have a flair for/ what you like.

You could become extremely successful and wealthy off any course you chose to do. You might decide never to work with the said course either and be successful in something totally different from what you initially did. Or you could decided to become the world authority in that obscure field. Of course every course has its different employment prospects, so that is something worth taking into consideration as well. However there are several job roles which dont require expertise in any particular field of study.

You can relate to this? Did you or a relative study soil science and miraculously find yourselves working in a bank as a director?

Thats where you are wrong mate.

To work in a bank doesnt require a degree in Banking and Finance or whatever, it requires a university degree. Honestly, what you studied for your undergraduate degree (a decison you made when you were on average 16-17 years old) should not and can not dictate how you live for the rest of your life.

What you did for 4 years of your degree, you will forget in 1 year of work. That is why work experience superceedes any fancy degrees at anytime.

Malubi: Archeology and or History.
The problem with most people is that they don't see beyond their noses. What you read, to me, matters little or not, but what you make out of it. I'm sure you won't argue with me that a History graduate with a good result and computer literacy stands a better chance of being employed in a bank than a graduate of Banking and Finance with poor result and/ or not being computer. Our lack of understanding, not wanting to engage our minds in deep reasoning and thought provoking courses have made us not to see anything good in courses like: Philosophy, History, Classics, Pschology, etc. This courses are so wide that they interwine themselves and others. For example, I read History but when I engage students of Political Science in a debate, you'll think I read the course. The same thing with engaging students and graduates of International Relations, Sociology, Geography, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Literature, etc.

Would they download free drawings or have a biologist draw the plans for a skyscraper, a stadium, plan a town or city? Will Nigeria remain an undeveloped country for ever?
Right now we want to build trains, we run to China. We want to do roads, we run to the Lebanese. We want to do I.T we run to Indians. We want to deploy National Security IT infrastructure we are running to the Isrealis. We cant maintain our factories, we cant even run our own refineries. Why is this so?

You are right, work experience superceeds degrees in some cases but if its your first job, then what counts is your qualification on paper.

If there are two fresh graduates vying for a position in a law firm, one with a law degree, the other with a marketing degree. Who do you think would be employed.

Useful hints!

- Except your father is wealthy, don't do medicine.
- Except you are willing to spend 6-7 years + a further 2 or 3 years due to strike, don't do medicine
- Except you are willing to work for a private hospital that would pay you peanuts, don't do medicine
- Except you are going to leave Nigeria to some other countries when you graduate, don't do medicine.

But if you insist, then the simple thing is STUDY HARD.

now let me reply you....

1) i lost both parents, and i just finished, as far as you are focused, you can study medicine without a father

2) throughout my stay in unilorin medical school, i never smelt strike, so whats your point

3) no need to work in a private hospital, establish on your own and be your own boss!!!

Moreover, house officers earn 175K CONMESS, so please whats your point

4) na by force to commot??!!? You can make it as a doctor here in Nigeria: Dr kuku (lagos), Dr balogun (ilorin) are multi-millionaires, so WHATS YOUR FREAKING POINT!!!!
