The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), said on Thursday he could not wait for the current Senate, which he described as the worst since 1999, to go next year. He faulted the lawmakers’ insistence on the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris’s personal appearance before them. According to Sagay, such move smacked of personal vendetta against the IGP. The PACAC chief, who said he was not a fan of the current Senate, accused the red chamber of abdicating its responsibilities by its refusal to pass the 2018 budget almost halfway into the year. He told the Nation Newspaper: “You know I have never been impressed by this Senate. It’s probably the worst we have ever had since the return to civilian rule. They are more concerned about exercising vain authority and power than in actually doing anything substantive for the country. “These are people – the whole Senate – who would adjourn sitting and go to the Code of Conduct Tribunal in solidarity with their President. For everyday they go, the work of legislation is suspended. And they owe a duty to this country to make the laws for the order, peace and good government of Nigeria. “Each time they abandon their legislative duties, they’re in fact committing a breach of their obligation, apart from the fact that doing that sort of thing is infantile. “As if that was not enough, the whole Senate packed themselves again to visit Dino Melaye in the hospital. How rational is that? Why can’t they send a delegation of two or three people who would report back? So, it’s like a showoff of power and intimidation. I don’t think it’s really worthy of them to behave like that.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/sarakis-senate-worst-in-nigerias.html

May Allah forgive me; it is the worst offence against humanity.” Mohammed on his part admitted participating in the killing of the girl, saying ‘I have ruined my life.’ Mohammed said, “I prepared the poison which I gave to Adamu to kill the girl. I regret my action.” The Niger State police spokesman, Muhammad Abubakar, confirming the incident said the suspects would be arraigned in court after investigation. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/why-i-killed-my-daughter-15-year-old.html

Ekiti State governorship aspirant, Chief Segun Oni has petitioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) on the botched governorship primary election. Oni in his petition said the system was compromised. He accused an unnamed aspirant of hijacking the process. He described the incident on Saturday as direct evidence of corruption and lack of regard for due process by the party’s top echelon. The petition said: “I greet you all as you search for a way out on the aborted May 5, 2018 governorship primary in Ekiti State. Please allow me to avail you of some of my observations and feelings after a very careful and serious consideration. “I am making my comments, believing that I am a member of the family who only recently left and who will continue to wish the NWC well as a friend and former colleague. “The conduct of the Primary election by the Al-Makura led committee was so fundamentally flawed that it became a major embarrassment to Ekiti State and to our dear Party. “It was obvious that one of the aspirants chose or had very strong input into the choice of the umpires, a situation that is against all known rules of natural justice. “The primary election was marred by corruption and neglect of due process. “Many people saw this as a direct evidence of corruption and lack of regard for due process by the Party top echelon. Personally, I feel ashamed for the Party, that I am a part of the charade that took place on Saturday in which contestants were so blatantly taken for a ride. “It was observed that this particular aspirant had scores of his aides allowed into the voting venue as “observers”, “press” and “officials”, a strange privilege that they exploited to make a complete mess of the process, sparking off the consequential violence that led to the abortion of the whole exercise. “Frankly, the NWC owes the people of Ekiti State and Nigeria as a whole an unreserved apology for this embarrassing conduct of the primary. How can we be carrying out a very vital exercise of this nature that we all know will be very crucial to our success in Ekiti and subsequent elections and we allowed the process to be so compromised? Is it that as a Party, we are now unable to assure and deploy a non-porous, above board security to cover such a vital event? “Honestly, we owe Nigerians an explanation and an apology on this. If we are serious about fighting corruption, the earlier the Party recognises it has a vital role to play, the better it will be for us all, the Party and the nation.” He further advised the NWC to abandon the delegate election system for direct primary. “In view of what transpired on Saturday and after a very careful reelection on the manipulation and the corruption that manifestly go with delegate election system, I cannot but agree that our Party must no longer touch it even with a long pole. “The system as clearly demonstrated is fundamentally ?awed and prone to too much abuse. This was amply demonstrated by an individual who was able to hold the entire process to ransom. “We must move immediately to the direct primary system to save us from this type of embarrassment in future primary elections. “We clearly have an emergency on our hands as far as our integrity is concerned and we need to move fast to redeem our image and preserve the Party against any further erosion of confidence. “Please note that even I am an aspirant, I am making these observations in good faith, as one of you who will not shy away from telling the truth. “Meanwhile, please be assured of my continuing high regard and esteem.”Oni added http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/ekiti-apc-primary-oni-petitions-oyegun.html

It was yet again another day of tears and sorrow at Gwaska village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, after the community was attacked by unidentified armed bandits on Saturday, leading to the deaths of 45 residents and several injured. The incident was said to have occurred at 2:30 a.m. and happened barely 48 hours after the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris and the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Mohammed had visited Birnin Gwari. The IG had during the visit ordered for the immediate deployment of an additional 200 policemen in Birnin Gwari to tackle the continuing raids by armed bandits who have been killing, kidnapping and robbing people in the area. A source within the Birnin Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance, who pleaded anonymity, said the gunmen came from neighbouring Zamfara State. “The armed bandits came from neighbouring Zamfara State and encircled Gwaska up to neighbouring Kuiga village shooting sporadically.” The source said most of those killed were those that tried to fight back, including women and children who could not escape. He added that several people were injured during the invasion and were taken to a hospital in the Doka district. “We will continue to appeal to the authorities to take urgent steps to forestall further attacks and the extinction of communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area,” he said. A combined team of Nigerian troops and members of the local vigilante group were said to have rushed to the village when the incident occurred, but by the time they arrived the community, the bandits had fled. The vigilante group source said: “We were in Gwaska together with the military around 7 p.m., but the commander asked the soldiers to retreat because it was getting dark.” He said several people were still missing, adding that arrangements were being made to evacuate more people who had sustained injuries from gunshots. When contacted, the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Aliyu Mukhtar, said in a text message that he “will get the details and get back”. Speaking on the latest attack on Birnin Gwari, the Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai commiserated with its residents over the killings. He disclosed that the security challenges facing the area would soon be over as a permanent battalion of the Nigerian Army and a Police Area Command will be established in Birnin Gwari. The governor said President Muhammadu Buhari has already given approval to that effect. In a statement by Samuel Aruwan, his spokesman, el-Rufai said the police IG had already approved the establishment of the Police Area Command and two new Divisional Police Headquarters in Birnin Gwari. The statement said in part: “The state government received with sadness reports of the murder of our citizens by armed bandits in Birnin Gwari. “The Kaduna State Government is deeply committed to overcoming the unfortunate criminality and banditry being carried out against innocent citizens in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. “The engagements between the state and federal governments have yielded results. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of a permanent battalion of the Nigerian Army in the Birnin Gwari general area. “The new security arrangements also involve policing. The Inspector General of Police has already announced the creation of the Birnin Gwari Police Area Command and two new Divisional Police Headquarters. “The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has also been directed to provide relief materials with immediate effect to the affected communities,” the governor said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/breaking-unidentified-gunmen-kill-45-in.html

We can be (together in future). I have feelings for her but there is time for everything. We are both young now and marriage is not the next thing. The goal is to make money o (laughs). President Muhammadu Buhari has once again declared that more people were killed in Zamfara than Taraba and Benue states. When asked by the Voice of Nigeria what other agreement he sealed with President Donald Trump during their bilateral talks, Buhari responded thus: “Not agreements, just discussions. The first one is the information being given to them that Christians are being killed in Nigeria; but what happened in the Church also happened in the South-east and the North and they just say it is herdsmen that are killing them. “Those making these allegations against the herdsmen know that herdsmen, as we know them only carry sticks, going about with guns is a new thing and those making the allegations know that conflict between farmers and herders has a long history even before we were born. “Therefore, it is wrong to say the conflict is between Fulani and Tiv or other tribes, like in Taraba. ‘What of Zamfara, where more people were killed than in Taraba and Benue put together’? “People need to understand that it is mischief that makes people to bring in religion or ethnicity,” the President said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/more-people-killed-in-zamfara-than.html

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his predecessors only completed few projects. The President said grand corruption characterised past administrations and denied Nigeria the opportunities of experiencing “infrastructure revolution.” He said some people made away with billions of dollars on fraudulent oil deals and bogus military contracts. The President said this in an opinion he wrote, which was published by NewsWeek on Monday to coincide with his official visits to Washington DC, USA. Buhari said, “In fact, very few major infrastructure projects were completed in Nigeria in the years leading to my inauguration as President , a period during which the country enjoyed its highest crude oil prices in recent history. “The grand corruption of our recent past, which saw tens of billions of dollars frittered away on fraudulent oil deals and bogus military contracts, put paid to all opportunities for an infrastructure revolution. “Now we have seized the chance to do things better: We have cleaned up falsified civil service payrolls and commenced the prosecution of payroll impostors–saving taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars annually. “We set up a whistle – blower policy aimed at deterring corrupt practices in government and we are committed to the Open Government Partnership. “In January this year, Nigeria was elected to the Partnership ’s Steering Committee.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/my-predecessors-completed-ffew-projects.html

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Monday took delivery of two Mi-35M combat helicopters from Russia, in a bid to combat the insurgency in the North-east and the rising wave of killings in other parts of the country. The helicopters were delivered to the air force at the Tactical Air Command, Makurdi in Benue State. According to NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya, “The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) took delivery of two Mi-35M helicopter gunships that the federal government had since ordered from Russia. “The Antonov aircraft, which brought the new Mi-35M helicopters, touched down on the runway at the NAF Base, Makurdi, at exactly 12.20pm today (yesterday).” The Chief of Aircraft Engineering at NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Abdulganiyu Olabisi, received the new aircraft on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar. While taking custody of the fighter helicopters, Olabisi said that the newly acquired aircraft would in a few days time be assembled and taken to Kaduna where they will be officially inducted as part of the 54th NAF Day celebrations and thereafter be deployed in conflict zones. According to him, NAF was aware of the prevailing security situation in the country and the effort the federal government was making to ensure that every part of Nigeria is safe and secured. “It is part of this concerted effort that the NAF is taking delivery of a second batch of two MI35M combat helicopters from Russia. “The helicopters in a few days from now will be assembled. We are happy that we have a team of Russian engineers who are going to assist in the reassembling of these helicopters. “Thereafter, they would be taken to Kaduna where they will be officially inducted as part of the 54th NAF Day celebrations. Thereafter, the helicopters will be deployed in conflict zones,” he said. He expressed optimism that the new addition to the NAF fleet would go a long way in boasting the security situation in the country as well as enhance the NAF’s operational capacity. He said the helicopters will be deployed in places like Benue and other states were insurgents and criminals are terrorising innocent people. “What is happening in Benue is regrettable and the situation here is of concern to most of us. I believe that the strategic planners also has Benue State as one of the areas where these helicopters are likely to be deployed,” he stated. In his remarks, Adesanya noted that the Mi-35M combat helicopters are one of the most sophisticated aircraft in the Mi-35 gunships category, with a unique feature for night fighting. According o him, “I believe with the coming of these helicopters will go a long way in enhancing the security of the nation and enhance NAF’s operational capacity and it will go a long way to ameliorate the situation in the country. “They are two of them coming now. We took delivery of two in December 2016. Those two are already deployed for operations and we have seen them recording a lot progress in the counter insurgency fight in the North-east. “These two that have been received today are also going to be assembled, after which they will be test-flown and once they are test flown, they will be inducted in Kaduna.” Adesanya also stated that a combined team of NAF personnel and Russian technicians were also on hand to assist in offloading the partially assembled new helicopters, some parts of which came in crates, adding that the personnel of the Nigerian Air Force had already undergone training in Russia as pilots and technicians on the new Mi-35 aircraft as part of the contract. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/naf-takes-delivery-of-two-helicopter.html

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, has said Boko Haram insurgents strolled into Abuja at will, attacking critical infrastructures, under the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan. He said this while revealing why the current administration said it has defeated Boko Haram. Speaking with journalists after a media tour in the United States, US, Mohammed said under Jonathan, the insurgents were on rampage unlike what is obtainable today. News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, quoted the Minister as saying unlike the past administration, the insurgents are no longer in control of any territory, hence the declaration that they have been defeated. According to Mohammed, “The important thing is that we made them understand that the unfortunate incident of kidnap of the Dapchi schoolgirls and the recent suicide bombings are not reflective of actually the success of the government in fighting Boko Harm. “When the government says Boko Haram is defeated, it is from the context of what it was when it came in and what we are today. People have forgotten that less than three or four years ago, people in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, could not sleep with their two eyes closed. “That four years ago, the insurgents used to stroll into Abuja at will and no building was sacred to them. I mean they were so bold they attacked the force headquarters. “They attacked the UN headquarters, they attacked newspapers head office, Nyanya Motor Park was attacked twice and states and towns like Suleja, Kano, Sokoto, Kogi, Borno, were game for them. “So, when we say we have defeated Boko Haram, it is precisely what we mean. Today, night life has returned to Maiduguri, weekly football leagues are being played in Maiduguri, schools have been reopened, roads have been reopened. “It was a far cry from when we went in 2015 because between Bama and Maiduguri where we went to, there was no singular vehicle on the road.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/04/why-we-say-we-have-defeated-boko-haram.html

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it cannot be held responsible for the poor turnout of petitioners in Saturday’s verification of signatures for the recall of Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye. Alhaji Mohammed Haruna, the INEC Federal Commissioner in-charge of Kogi, Kwara and Nasarawa States, stated this in Lokoja shortly after the exercise. Haruna said that the main concern of INEC was to ensure transparency in the process, insisting that the organisation was neutral in the bid to recall Melaye from the Senate. “Turnout is not our problem; turnout is the problem of parties concerned, ours is to ensure transparency,” Haruna said. Commenting on insinuations that INEC might tamper with the wish of the people, the commissioner said that nothing like that would happen, stressing that the agency had no interest in who won or lost in the matter. “Nothing untoward will happen, I assure you . Whatever happened at the polling units is what INEC will announce,” he stated. Commenting on the mix up in the list of petitioners, Haruna said that mistakes in such exercise were normal, assuring that such mistakes would be corrected. He lauded the peaceful conduct of the people before and during the exercise. MC EBISCO reports that in Koton Karfe and Lokoja, the people conducted themselves well, although the turnout was poor. At Ukwo polling unit in Koton Karfe, 18 out of 440 petitioners came for the verification, while at Oworo polling unit in Felele area of Lokoja, none of the 815 petitioners showed up. Also at polling unit 004 of Ward 3 in Lokoja, 32 out of the 1,251 petitioners showed up. During the exercise, there was no case of malfunctioning of card reader machines while security personnel adequately manned the polling centres. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/04/dino-melayes-recall-inec-reveals-what.html

The new Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Aminu Saleh has revealed why many people died during the recent robbery attack in Offa area of the state. He said the robbers were able to kill many residents due to intelligence break down. The CP pointed out that the large number of the robbers overwhelmed the few policemen on ground at the time. Saleh further disclosed that the police also had low connectivity with members of the community, admitting that they had no knowledge of the attack beforehand. He made the disclosure on Thursday when he addressed journalists in Ilorin, the state capital. Saleh said, “We had an intelligence break down. We had many criminals attacking a few policemen. “We had little information on the attack before it happened . However, we’re re-strategising and repositioning our men. “We’re working on the community to ensure that those lapses we observed are addressed. “What essentially went wrong is our response capacity. We’re going to correct all those anomalies and get our men to be more responsive. “We’re on the trail of the suspects and a lot of successes have been recorded. It is true that we have deficit of APC in the state; in fact we have two moribund ones. But there is already an arrangement on the ground by the state government to intervene and assist in this manner.” He condoled with the families of victims of the attack, stating that the Command would ensure that there was no recurrence of such in the state. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/04/offa-robbery-police-reveals-real-cause.html

The Federal Government of Nigeria has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to restrain the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu from further selling off his properties. The Federal Government made the appeal in a counter affidavit filed on Thursday in response to Ekweremadu’s motion on notice. It told the court that Ekweremadu, in a desperate bid to avoid forfeiting the properties to the Federal Government, has already sold two of his three undeclared properties in Kissimmee, Florida, United States of America. While accusing him of employing delay tactics to frustrate the suit, the Federal Government averred that the properties which were bought in 2008 for $200,000 each were put on the market in January and sold for $150,000 to the same buyer on February 20, 2018. The Federal Government further prayed the court to grant the application to enable the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, led by Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla to also investigate the alleged buyers. Justice Binta Nyako, however, adjourned the matter to June 5, 2018, for hearing. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/04/nigerian-govt-tells-court-to-stop.html

Dalung said they will accept the outcome of the election and kindly tell the President to take the exit door. The Minister, who spoke with BBC Hausa, said, “We will tell him this is the time God has decreed that his tenure will be elapsed. We will tell him he has played his part and posterity will judge him. Dalung, however, insisted that the President was still the best candidate for the 2019 presidential election. Asked whether Buhari would win second term, he said, “I not God. Only God can decide that.” He said those opposing Buhari were doing so because he has refused to yield to their selfish demands. “They are after sharing the national cake and because he refused, he (Baba) has failed.” The Minister said those saying the President was shielding in government are wailers who cannot provide proofs on alleged offences. The Sports Minister said that within the time frame the President has tackled the security challenges bedevilling the country. “As all over the world people are being killed, Nigeria is not an exception. The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said that it had genuine concerns over the safety of the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu. While criticising the recent invasion of the Senate by thugs, Ohanaeze said it also fears for the safety other lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly. Thugs suspected to be loyal to the suspended Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial district, Ovie Omo-Agege, had on Wednesday invaded the red chambers and forcefully took away the mace. Ohanaeze, in its reaction, said it was still at loss as to how armed men were able to break into the National Assembly situated in the most secured area in the country. Ohanaeze’s reaction came in a statement by its President-General, Chief Nnia Nwodo, made available to reporters on Saturday, through his Special Advisor on media and publicity, Chief Emeka Attamah. The statement read in part, “We join other patriotic Nigerians in condemning this reprehensible gangsterism and attack on the parliament and our democracy. “However, the breach of security in an otherwise most-secured environment in Nigeria gives course for suspicion. “We know for certain that there are several security checks before one can access the National Assembly Complex. “We are also aware that it takes the motion for the suspension of the Order 17 of the Senate Standing Rule before anybody outside the Senators and chamber staff is allowed access into the Senate Chamber. “It is also common knowledge that the National Assembly Complex is surrounded by the Presidential Villa, headquarters of the Department of State Security (DSS), the Office of the National Security Adviser, among others. “So, how on earth did the assailants escape with the mace? “We watched on live television and the other footage of the incident how the invaders moved menancingly towards the Deputy President before he was whisked away to safety by his security guards. “With a hindsight of the attempt on Senator Ekwremadu’s life in November 2015 which the security agencies refused to investigate or say a word about, we have genuine cause to believe that the attack on the Senate chamberby armed men on a day the senate was in session and with the Senator Ekwremadu presiding had more sinister motives than met the eye. “The 1999 Constitution (as amended) is very clear that the primary purpose of government is the welfare of citizens and the protection of their lives and property. “We wish to state unequivocally that With all the legitimate instruments for the protection of lives and property, including those of the lawmakers and the parliament, firmly in the hands of the executive arm of government, Ndigbo and the world know whom to hold responsible should any harm befall the Senator or other lawmakers and parliamentary staff. “Senator Ekweremadu is just the one eye with which Ndigbo are seeing in this administration that have unabashedly sidetracked the South East. He is the only Igbo man occupying a principal and non-appointive position in the top hierarchy of the Federal Government today and we believe that there should be limits to political rascality. “Unfortunately, the Nigerian political class appears to have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing,” the Ohanaeze added. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/04/senate-mace-how-invaders-targeted.html

Popular Nollywood actress, Lydia Forson has revealed why she likes controversial Big Brother Naija 2018 housemate, Cee-c, despite her apparent flaws. She revealed that Cee-c’s personal battles reflect some of the realities many viewers deal with. Since Wednesday when Cee-c attacked Tobi, viewers of the reality show and celebrities have been taking sides. For Farson, she believes that the housemate is the one really bringing entertainment to the show, which comes to end by the weekend. She wrote, “What people don’t appreciate is while you’re entertained, these housemates are confined to a space, forced to interact with people they’d never met in the outside world and pushed to limits only those who’ve been a part can appreciate. “For those who stay true to themselves they’re forced to come face to face with who they really are, stare at the ugliest parts of themselves and made to confront them in the rawest way. It’s probably the hardest thing for anyone who’s never had to be vulnerable or this exposed, to do. “And this is why I was drawn to Cee-c, it had nothing to do with how entertaining I thought she was. Some of her actions were inexcusable and I found myself screaming at her through the television a few times; but I appreciated that she was flawed, had struggles and was working through them, even if it wasn’t at a pace people expected.” The actress added, “Many people recognize themselves in her struggle,a part of our lives cameras don’t always capture, a battle with strong emotions and self control- and we appreciated her journey. “And that’s why it’s been disheartening to read from people who I know DO NOT have it all together; but quick to join in to call her animal, unfit to live and a mental case ( exposing your own ignorance about the real battle of mental disorders). If your prescription to a crazy person is to act crazy yourself then you both need to be locked up. “And no, this is not a campaign, because her winning the money doesn’t mean much to me; the winners of these shows aren’t always the ones with fat bank accounts after- that doesn’t always last- it’s those who take what the experience put them through and see the gold that it is to be better after. “Hopefully she’s made us reflect a little more on our lives, how we’re perceived by the world and what we can do to become better. “You might think you’ve got it all together until you have a camera follow you around for 24hrs.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/04/bbnaija-2018-what-cee-c-has-done-for.html
