Minister of information, Lai Mohammed has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari has fulfilled all his campaign promises with ‘unprecedented accomplishments’ within three years of his administration. Speaking yesterday, in Lagos, where he outlined the achievements of the administration, he said contrary to critics, who claim the government had nothing to show for its three years of existence, the Buhari administration had ‘performed beyond expectations’. He said: “This administration has kept its social contract with the Nigerian people by delivering on its campaign promises. We are putting our nation on the path of sustainable growth and development, diversifying our economy like never before, tackling corruption at its very core and devising creative measures to secure lives and property. “After just three years, Nigeria is rising again like a phoenix from the ashes of years of massive looting of the national treasury, mis-governance and fallen oil prices. In just three years, the Buhari administration has taken power generation to an all-time high of 7,000 mega watts, from the 2,690 which we inherited. It has moved Nigeriacloser to self-sufficiency in rice more than any administration before it; it is just two years away from meeting its target production of six million metric tonnes of milled rice to meet Nigeria’s consumption. “This administration is feeding 8.2 million pupils in 45,394 schools in 24 states, employing 87,261 cooks in the process. It has been paying conditional cash transfer of N5,000 monthly to 297,973 poorest and most vulnerable households. It is turning around the nation’s infrastructure fortunes, including power, roads and rail, thanks to the unprecedented N2.7 trillion that has been spent on infrastructure. All four components of the N-POWER programme are now up and running, benefiting nine million people directly. “On May 29, 2015, Boko Haram was squarely in charge of a territory the size of Lebanon, occupying 24 local governments, collecting taxes, deposing and installing emirs and hoisting its flag; corruption levels in our society was at an all-time high and the economy was in the doldrums, but, this administration has retaken every inch of Nigeria’s territory from insurgents, flushed them out of their safe havens and put them on the run. “The economy is back on the path of growth, after the recession of 2016/17. Inflation has fallen for 15 consecutive months, from 18.7 percent to 12.5 percent as of April 2018. External reserves of $48 billion are the highest in five years, and more than double the $23 billion we met in 2015. The total value of capital imported in the quarter stood at $6,303.63 billion, which is a year-on-year increase of 594.03 percent, and a 17.11 percent growth over the figure reported in the previous quarter. “Tax revenue increased to N1.17 trillion in the first quarter of 2018, a 51 percent increase on the first quarter of 2017 figure and 14 moribund fertiliser blending plants have been revitalised, so far, under the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative (PFI); with a total capacity of 2.3 million metric tonnes of fertiliser. The contribution of solid minerals to the Federation Account rose five-fold from N700 million in 2015 to N3.5 billion in 2017. “The administration launched the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), a medium-term economic plan, in April 2017, to chart a course for the economy over the next four years (2017–2020).” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/buhari-has-ffulfilled-campaign-promises.html

An Instagram user identified as @blogger_dami took to the platform to call out BBNaija housemate, Alex for blocking him on the platform even while he was not following her. According to her, he stumbled on her Instagram handle and found out that he couldn’t connect. Before then realizing she must have blocked him out. Read his narration below: Alex is so bitter, she blocked me on Instagram even while I wasn’t following her. I am not so much a fan of the Big Brother Naija show but with the noise from followers and the hypes on social media. I sha adopted some housemates and was wishing they won as a fan. Unfortunately I had 2 people at the finals that I supported, but the favourite did not win…at least he was a finalist. Yes, my favorite was Tobi and for Alex, I was never a fan of her..Yes she has her fans and everyone has the right to choose. From the way she danced rascally in house to her gossips and the likes…I just didn’t find myself top tune with her, so I never even bothered following her on Instagram though we are always slaaped on the face by her photos since she is attached to our person. I think it happened when she posted the nude photo and it went viral on the internet. I was reading via @instablog9ja on how she claimed she was hacked. And personally as a social media critic and writer, I knew all these stunts by these celebrities are for publicities so I don’t buy them… I must have commented it was all for publicity and she shouldn’t come here to give us stories. We know the hacking excuse is what they always come up with. She would not be the first to do so..Even Small Doctor that was wanking on SnapChat claimed he was hacked…We knew the matter would die down…but just as some people have called us Lazy…Nigerians must talk Okay, I didn’t even realize the Alex have blocked me until a day when I stumbled on her handle through a popular hashtag and gbamm…it was blank…Like who blocks who is not even following them Better find something do and stop doing shakushaku all over the place…Alex Empire ko…Alex tyre ni http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/bbnaija-alex-is-so-bitter-she-blocked.html

The will of the people must be allowed to stand, says Jonathan By Victor Ogunje in Ado Ekiti The governors of Ekiti and River States, Ayodele Fayose and Nyesom Wike respectively, yesterday said the deployment of soldiers and police won’t save the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Kayode Fayemi, from being disgraced in the July 14 governorship poll. Fayose insisted that the “poor performances” of the Buhari’s administration had substantiated the fact that there was no alternative to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the running of government at the centre. The governors spoke in Ado Ekiti during the inauguration of the new Governor’s office; former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was also present. Wike did the official inauguration and he was supported by his counterparts from Akwa Ibom, Mr. Emmanuel Udom, that of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dakwambo as well as Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu . Fayose, who spoke before the inauguration of the edifice insisted that the APC candidate for the July 14 election and former governor had never won any election in the history of the state. He said: “Oni won the election but Justice Ayo Salami gave it to Fayemi. They want to bring him back now; I want to say that they will fail. “The Pharaoh deployed every weapon against the Israelites but they ended up in the Red Sea. That is how election will be because it was a divine mandate for Governor Kolapo Olusola”. Wike said Fayemi was not coming to Ekiti to contest election but only coming with the rigid mindset to rig election. “They are not coming to contest, because they know they can’t win. What they wanted to do is to rig and the good people of Ekiti must resist this. Your votes is your power and don’t allow them to steal it”, he said. Fayose said that the last convention that produced the National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Uche Secondus was not by mistake, saying the choice of the Rovers State born party leader was made to save the PDP from impending doom. “Let me say that with what we are seeing Nigeria today, it was glaring that Nigerians had not found alternative to PDP; today, they are regretting for voting APC. “Since I came on October 16, 2014, I have not committed Ekiti to one Naira debt. I left N10.4 billion cash in the coffers of Ekiti when I left in 2006, but today, the story has changed. “I can say without fear of contradiction that over 70 percent of the infrastructures in Ekiti were built by me; I want someone to controvert this.” On the anti-graft war being waged by President Buhari, Fayose said: “Our country has no problem of corruption. They said they are visiting the past, let them probe up to the military era, because it has to go down the line. “We have had enough of blame game under Buhari. Everyday, they shout Jonathan; they better face the reality that they were only affected by incompetence and lack of capacity to deliver and stop blaming past leaders”. Reminiscing on the June 21 governorship election, Fayose said: “They said you rigged election for me after open acceptance by Fayemi that he was rejected by Ekiti electorate. “They went to Supreme Court, I defeated them. They said when President Buhari comes he would take Ekiti. If you like bring Army, police, I don’t care. The God of Israel is our strength and we shall be victorious.” Fayose promised that he won’t be a burden on his successor or interfere in how he governs the state, saying, “I won’t come here to be a burden to you (Olusola). I will only come here to support you. Let me also say that I am not going to the Senate. I will return to my village in Afao Ekiti after leaving office. “Ekiti people must be determined, because you want to cross the red sea. They are bringing a man who put us into debt. We are going to be paying one billion naira monthly as debt repayment till 2036. “This election will go peacefully. Ekiti people, don’t worry yourselves. I decided to take Olusola and Deji Ogunsakin for the joint ticket because they are youths and I believe in action and not in mouthing. The Will of the People Must be Allowed to Stand, Says Jonathan Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, in his remarks warned President Muhammadu Buhari to stop labeling Nigerian youths as lazy while urging him against deploying state machinery to rig the July 14 governorship election in favour of his party, the All Progressives Congress(APC). Speaking while inaugurating the 1.2 kilometres long flyover built by Fayose in Ado Ekiti Friday evening , Jonathan described Fayose as an exemplary leader and loyal party man, who has done the PDP proud in all facets. He said: “ I don’t believe anybody can defeat the PDP in Ekiti if election is going to be held. I want to advise President Buhari not to deploy power to truncate Ekiti election. “Though as a president, you have the power but don’t do that because of posterity. History will record whatever you do and the power of a leader is determined after leaving office and not when he is in the office. “The will of the people must be allowed to stand at all times, because power belongs to them and we must respect their verdict through the ballots”, he advised. On the statement credited to President Buhari that Nigerian youths are slothful, Jonathan retorted: “Nigerians youth are not lazy, I don’t believe that, because I have worked with them closely. They are great people with great potentials who should be celebrated by any leader. “As leaders, we must make sure we present a country that will make us proud and not to use our country as a negative example in Africa to the outside world. “The idea of portraying Nigerians negative manners had occurred on two occasions under this present government. These are mistakes we should not make. “I want to thank you for your supports for the PDP since 2015 and we expect you to do more in the coming governorship election” Speaking further, Jonathan added: “Fayose will never compromise the interest of Ekiti people for anything . He is a leader who speaks truth to power, in fact Fayose is a leader and he has done well for his people. Speaking on education, Jonathan said: “Any leader who wants to encourage his people must encourage the education of the youth. If you don’t encourage the youths, they will be exploited . “As youths, you have to be aware that we are operating a knowledge based economy, so you must be proficient in the use of computer, this you can’t compromise if you want to fit into the 21st century economy. “At a time, Ekiti was becoming low in ranking in education, we were surprised but through effective leadership of Ayodele Fayose, there was improvement”. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/ekiti-2018-army-police-cant-rescue.html

Chairman of Innoson Motors Nigeria Ltd, Innocent Chukwuma, has reacted to a court ruling that declared him wanted. His reaction is contained in a statement by Cornel Osigwe, Head, Corporate Communications of Innoson Group, It read: “I have been briefed by my lawyers that Justice Mojisola Dada of Lagos State High Court Ikeja granted the oral plea of counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to declare me wanted because of my failure to appear before the court today. “I have expressly stated before that I am not afraid of arraignment but must be arraigned through due process of the law. “It must be noted that I, through my legal counsel, challenged the jurisdiction of the Lagos State High Court to hear the forgery charge filed against me by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on ground of, inter alia, the charge being an abuse of process. “I filed an application before the court that this present charge is an abuse of process because a similar charge on the same subject matter, transactions and issues is ongoing at the Federal High Court Lagos Division between the same parties, in charge no FHC/l/565c/2015. The last hearing of the charge at the Federal High Court was this week, May 22nd 2018. “Furthermore, my legal counsel had at the last court hearing on April 25th 2018 notified the court that I had challenged the Jurisdiction of the court to hear the suit at the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division and that the prosecuting counsels which are the EFCC has equally filed their brief at the Appellate Court. The judge subsequently adjourned the hearing to today, May 24th 2018. “At the court hearing today, my defense team, also, notified the judge that both parties have filed and exchanged their briefs at the Court of Appeal and a date has been fixed for hearing of the substantive appeal and prayed the Honourable Judge to defer to the Court of Appeal to decide the appeal which is on the jurisdiction of the court to hear the suit. “Again, my legal team notified the trial court that I had appealed against the order of bench warrant of 9th February 2018 to the Court of Appeal and as well filed a motion for stay of execution of the order of bench warrant. “However, the judge failed to grant the prayers of my legal counsel and quickly granted the plea of the prosecuting counsel to declare me wanted without recourse to due process of the law or listen to the submissions of my counsel on why an order declaring me wanted should not be made. “Declaring me wanted was done in bad faith and is simply to embarrass my personality, defame me and malign my character aimed to distract me from my daily activities in ensuring that Innoson Vehicles continues to produce durable made in Nigeria vehicles. “Recall also that the same Judge had issued a bench warrant against me, while I had challenged the jurisdiction of her court to hear the suit and I also wrote a petition to the National Judicial Council to investigate the circumstance leading to issuing a bench warrant against me and ordering my arrest. “In the course of this case, I had filed a motion that the judge recuse or disqualify herself from further conduct of the proceedings which she failed to hear and insisted I must be brought to court against laid down judicial authorities.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/innoson-speaks-on-court-declaring-him.html

In a lengthy Instagram post addressing all misconception surrounding her pregnancy announcement, blogger Linda Ikeji once again cleared the air on her celibacy and mentioned her Man for the first time. Read below: So let’s address some issues…and the reason why I bother is for the young girls who look up to me. I owe you and will always speak to help you in anyway I can because I want you to shine and be the better version of yourself. So number one, let’s talk about this celibacy issue. I preached it a lot of times but I have NEVER said do not have sex before marriage. Here’s what I have always said to young girls and I maintain it. Never ever give your body to a man for money. You’re worth so much more than that. You’re beautiful beyond measure and there’s absolutely nothing a man can give you that you can’t give yourself if you apply yourself, believe in yourself and work hard. Start now that you’re young, pursue your dreams, work hard till your hands are sore and ur mind is tired, never listen to anyone who tells you you’re not good enough or you’re wasting your time, and no matter how hard it gets, no matter how rough the road becomes, never give up on yourself or your dreams. 2. I’ve always also said & I maintain it; do not sleep around because your body is too precious & deserves respect. You deserve love & dignity. I’ve always said sex should only happen when you find yourself in a loving relationship, with someone you love & who loves you back. I was 100% celibate until I was ready to share my life with someone and I met the man of my dreams. (unfortunately, I can’t share him with the internet..lol) http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/linda-ikeji-finally-talks-about-her-man.html

Controversial OAP Daddy Freeze is mostly known of attacking men of God (Pastor) who are living a flamboyant lifestyle and collecting of tithe, first fruit and other monetary terms. His most likely special victims are David Oyedepo and Enoch Adeboye who are among the most influential Men of God in the country. Before he started his online church “Free The Sheeple Church”, Daddy Freeze was always against the acts of pastors collecting things from its members. Freeze had received a brand new iPhone X from one of his followers after he announced that his phone was going bad. He also suggested that singer Reekado Banks should also get him a laptop. This very act has actually attracted backlash from fans who are telling him he is even going against his own personal teachings that he was kicking against. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/see-what-daddy-freeze-gets-from-his.html

A former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has publicly apologised to former President Goodluck Jonathan claiming that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has battered and bruised Nigeria’s economy. Frank who was suspended in 2016 as deputy spokesperson of the ruling APC disclosed this on Sunday in an open letter. “I would first of all like to use this opportunity to formally apologise to the immediate past President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for all the tantrums and mistreatment orchestrated by me against his person while he held sway at the helm of affairs of our great country. “Indeed, I and many others may have misunderstood Jonathan’s silence for weakness and thus pushed harder to malign his person and portray him as a weak leader. Having achieved the Change Agenda, it is now crystal clear, that the change we had clamoured for is not the change we got,” he said. Frank added that Nigeria’s current situation may appear as a rude shock to many Nigerians including himself who preached the change mantra assiduously, he is consoled by the fact that, Nigeria will get to the promise land someday. He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to take steps to fix the current state of Nigeria’s economy which according to him is faced with challenges of impunity and lack of transparency. “I am sure that the current state of our dear country should be a cause of genuine concern. The damning assessment of Nigeria under your (Buhari) leadership as released by the United States Department of State in its 2017 country reports on Human Rights, cited impunity as being widespread at all levels of government and lack of transparency by your administration. “It may also interest you to know that the economy under your (Buhari) watch has been terribly battered, with all the economic indices indicating that we are yet to recover from the recession of 2016. “Today there is hardship everywhere with the price of fuel now N145 per as against the N85 that it was being sold when you assumed office – the over N1.4trillion already paid by your government as fuel subsidy notwithstanding,” Frank said in his letter. He also lamented at the level of insecurity in the country adding that the farmers/herders crises have continued to claim precious lives as if the nation is in a state of war. Citing the examples of El-Zakzaky and Dasuki, the APC chieftain also alleged that the present administration has been disobedient to court orders. “El-Zakzaky and Dasuki will not be in jail today but for the present rule of force under this government. It is a pity that today democracy and freedom have become scarce. “Killings take place on a daily basis across the country either by kidnappers, Boko Haram insurgents, herdsmen, and other criminal elements having a free reign around the country. Life has become worthless and uncertain and people cannot speak out for fear of being labelled anti-government,” Frank wrote in hs letter. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/apc-chieftain-apologises-to-jonathan.html

Veteran Fuji artiste, Obesere recently made some interesting revelations as to circumstances surrounding his brans, financial worth and his music During a recent interview, Obesere declared that he would have been richer that Billionaire Business mugul, Alhaji Dangote Read the interview here; The Obesere brand has been existing for over 30 years. Many people still wonder how you have managed to sustain the brand for that number of years. Staying relevant must have come with a lot of sacrifices and rewards for you. What do you think about your continued relevance in the music industry? As I always tell those who care to listen that there is no secret about what I have become, except for the power of God. His power has brought me to this point in my life. When I look back at how the journey started, I can only give thanks to my Creator for the gift of life and blessings. One thing that is certain is that nothing happens without God’s knowledge. A man can’t become anything without the hand of God in it. When He is involved, everything will always work out fine. Though, it may look rough at some point, if you believe in God and what you do, and you pursue your dreams with a pure heart, you will triumph. It is as simple as that. Looking back at how it started and where you are at the moment, what would you say has been your limitation? The late Micheal Jackson was very much more blessed and relevant than some rich people in the US even years after his demise. Maybe, I would have been richer than the likes of Aliko Dangote or Mike Adenuga, but I still give thanks to God. Why did you say that? The reason for my giving thanks is not far to seek. My detractors thought they could dim my star. They only tried but failed at every attempt to bring me down. The Obesere they wanted to pull down has been busy shuttling from one show to another around the world. Obesere is not begging anyone for a means of livelihood. In fact, no year passes without that same me acquiring a new house and cars. In fact, I still give out cars, land, or houses to people every year. God never allowed my enemies to stop me from doing all those good things in life. It was reported that you didn’t travel out of the country for 12 years until 2017. It is believed that some petitions that were said to have been written against you at foreign embassies stopped you from travelling. Is this true? It is true that certain petitions were written against me at various foreign embassies in US and Europe for reasons I am yet to understand. I think some people are surprised that I am living fine, despite my inability to travel out of the country for shows that would have fetched me more money. You can imagine a situation whereby a popular musician could not travel for 12 years but still manages to live fine without asking anyone for help. I guess that’s why petitions were written against me, but that has never stopped me from doing what I know best. What do you think is responsible for this? You know in this kind of profession, going international adds value to your trade. So, that is what some people tried to block my way. But when God said it was time, doors opened. 2009 was the last time I was in England. Even when the door opened, I left the category of those who would seek for visa as I was given a UK citizenship. Last year, you were busy touring the US and you ended up performing in about 26 states. How did you do it, given that you have not been there for a while? Like I said earlier, many people had waited patiently to see me over there because the kind of job I am doing is God-given. He handed it over to me. It’s in me. I’m music, music is me. It’s in my blood. I don’t copy anybody. So, when I got to the US, shows were lined up for me that at a point, I had to beg the promoter to let me go back to Nigeria because people were already thinking I had made up my mind to stay overseas. My plan was just to go there, work and come back home. So, I had to abandon some shows till further notice. For somebody who could not travel out of the country for 12 years, how did you break the jinx? As I said earlier, I was able to gain entry into the US after 12 years. My brother, you needed to have seen the petitions written against me. I wondered how people had the time to come up with such lies just to discredit me. Some people alleged that I had a lot of money that could not be traced to music alone. They said that I was into fraud, drugs and money laundering. They tried to implicate me with a lot of things that were not true. Are you saying music is the only trade you have been involved in over the years? I don’t have anything I am involved in other than music and I have made a lot of money from it. I’m successful because I am not a flamboyant person. The late Ayinde Barrister once said that work hard and get money that will make the lazy man feel bad. I am constantly reminding myself how my journey in music started and where I am going, so I don’t spend my money on frivolities because I know money is not easy to come by. So, the little I have, I use it well. I invest in my family and assist the needy. I manage my income very well, and this made some people feel bad. You will hear them say, “is he the only one singing?” During that difficult time, what lesson did you learn? Sometime ago, a pastor met me in London and said ‘Abass, I know you don’t know me but God sent me to tell you that He was aware of your travails.’ The man told me that God said He allowed those things to happen to me to confuse my detractors, so that they won’t tamper with my life? I held on to that message till now. So now, US, UK, among other places, have become where I can stroll in and out anytime. In fact, I can say I want to go and have fun in London any time. My family is there, and they are the ones God used for me to secure my citizenship. How did God use them for you? I have been able to manage my resources very well, which helped me to transfer my family abroad more than 15 years ago. I always sent money to them, investing in them heavily before they moved to London. So, my wife and the kids were those who thought for me. If I had not invested in them a long time ago, I would still be unable to gain entry into England because I was banned for 10 years from entering the country. That was in 2014. Now that I have been given a permanent residential permit, I have visited UK more than eight times. Again, people keep wondering, is the flight ticket so cheap? I have my family there. There is nothing too much to spend to see them. So, for those who believe I want to stay, it’s not true. Last weekend, I left London for Nigeria for a show at Gbagi, Ibadan, which had a massive turnout and more shows have been lined up, some of which I can’t even remember now. It has been back to back from London to Nigeria, to Dublin, and other places. You have been seen performing in three shows a day with a minimum of six hours each at those shows. Given back to back shows, some people believe you are always under the influence of alcohol. What do you have to say? In this game, you just have to give your fans what they will always take home and talk about. Energetic performance is in my blood. I didn’t learn music; I have always had it in me. It’s in my lineage. God really loves me that He has given me so much strength such that I can perform for over eight hours on stage. When I go to shows, I just love to entertain the people. For them to have come out to support me, the best I could give them is a great performance. I always want people to talk gleefully about my shows six years after. People say you are humble and religious. We learnt that your house in Lagos has a mosque, where other residents come to worship every Friday. Are you truly a religious person? Whoever God has created has a purpose to fulfill. There is nothing God doesn’t know about. Being humble that most people say about me is not pretentious. That’s just the way I am. For those who are not humble, that’s how God created them. But, I thank God for how He created me. That’s why if you say you want to behave like Abass Akande Obesere, it won’t be easy to be who I am. That’s why people often say whom God has created can’t be copied. We are different in nature. You can’t be me and I can’t be you. Yes, people often come to my house every Friday to worship in the mosque. That’s just me. So, people shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. People judge me because of the kind of job I do and what I sing to entertain. People should just understand that when Obesere is on stage, I just do my work because that’s where I get my daily bread from. The real man is inner, not outer. It’s very deep until you see someone portray it. Only God can judge man. What are your plans for the rest of the year? My latest studio album entitled Ojurawonlo is still fast-selling. I even heard some people want to pay promoters to stop selling but, God has shut them out. At the same time, I have some hip hop tracks with A-list Nigerian artistes, and more are still coming. You can always check my page on Instagram for constant updates. A hip hop single, Ibaje will be released soon. I am also working on another album on my Europe tour. What advice do you have for your fans and young ones who want to do what you do? My advice is that you don’t need to be a musician before you are successful. Just try to be yourself in whatever you have chosen to do and always work smarter. Don’t be discouraged. Be focused. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/obesere-reveals-how-he-would-have-been.html

The Senator representing Zamfara central, Kabir Marafa, has claimed that the irregularities at the All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses, were targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari. Most of APC ward, local government and states congresses were marred by irregularities and violence. In an interview with PUNCH, the senator said the party leadership set some rules, but was first to break the rules. “After looking at the whole congresses, the way it started, what the party did and everything, to me, there is a massive conspiracy against the party and against the leader of the party – I mean the president of the country. “A party is organising a congress, if you look at the first scenario, some people just came up with the idea of one-year tenure extension for members of the national working committee. “The president was advised that the extension was illegal and that it would portend a serious problem to the success of the party. The president stood his ground and said we should go for elective congresses or consensus where possible. “The party came up with guidelines on how these congresses should be conducted, but the same party that produced these guidelines was the first to break the rules. In one of the clauses in the guidelines, they said forms should be filled and returned within 24 hours, but the NWC did not even meet with the congress committees until Thursday evening. The committees started going to their stations (states) on Friday. “The whole thing was like a kind of sabotage, so that this thing will become rancorous and there will be parallel congresses but a set of executive will be established for each state. The whole thing comes to just one thing – sabotage,” Marafa stated. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/apc-parallel-congresses-targeted-at.html

Dele Momodu has narrated how he begged students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) to allow Afro Juju musician, Shina Peters, perform during his visit to their campus. A policeman and another person were yesterday killed when armed robbers stormed a bank at Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area. The policeman, whose identity was yet to be ascertained as at press time, was in mufti. He was said to be an orderly attached to one of the local government chairmen in the state, and had gone to the bank for a transaction when the robbers came. A source in the town told journalists in a telephone interview that the bandits swooped on the old generation bank located beside the palace of the monarch of the town, chattering the security entrance with dynamite, which gave them access into the bank. The source explained the robbers, who might have entered the town through the Igede Road about 3.56p.m., shot sporadically into the air, causing marketers and residents to scamper into safety, leaving the Central Area of the town deserted within minutes. “They just came suddenly and started shooting. Those who had shops around that axis had to scamper into safety. Residents ran inside their houses, because the shooting was too much. “After blasting the security door, they went into the banking hall and seized the staff and the customers. They made away with undisclosed amount of money. They later escaped from the town via Ilawe-Igbara Odo- Ogotun Road,” the source said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/bloody-bloody-ekiti-policeman-civilian.html

A former councillor in Ikosi/Isheri LCDA, Odukunle Kuti, has insisted on the arraignment of a phone repairer, Rasheed Sunkanmi, for allegedly stealing his phone during a fight that he (Kuti) had with his wife. According to a report by The Punch, Kuti was allegedly beating up his wife in a street in Arepo, Ogun State when Sunkanmi, who was on a bike, asked why a man would be beating up a woman in such a manner. The 44-year-old Kuti was said to have overheard the statement and confronted Sunkanmi, before allegedly dishing him a slap. Sunkanmi then retaliated with a blow and a fight ensued, during which both had their clothes torn to shreds. Kuti reportedly involved some soldiers in the matter, accusing his opponent of being a thief who had stolen his money and wallet. However, the soldiers dismissed his case after Sunkanmi was searched on the spot and nothing of the sort was found on him. However, Kuti later reported the matter at a police station, accusing the phone repairer of being his wife’s lover whom she had planted in the crowd to assassinate him. He again alleged that the 27-year-year stole his phone, wallet and gold jewellery. Kuti insisted that his opponent must be arraigned by the police. However, The Punch quoted the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi as saying, “It is a nonsense case. We gathered that he (Kuti) was fighting with his wife. The woman ran out and he chased her and continued to beat her. While he was beating the woman, a man who was passing by on a motorcycle tried to intervene. “The man came down from the motorcycle and they started fighting each other. He tore the man’s clothes. Later, he invited some soldiers. He told the soldiers that the man stole his money and telephone. The soldiers searched the man and found nothing on him. “The next day, he reported the case to the police, saying the soldiers shielded the man. The police searched for the man and brought him; everybody made their statements and the man denied stealing the phone and money. “He (Kuti) said if the man could not produce his missing money and telephone, the case should be charged to court. The DPO said if that is the case, both of them would be charged with affray; both of them fought, and it is not a case of stealing. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/politician-beats-up-wife-accuses.html

At least 24 persons died while 176 were rescued in the fire outbreaks which occurred in Delta between May 2015 and April 2018. Mr Ernest Ogwezzy, the state Commissioner in charge of Directorate of the Bureau for Special Duties disclosed this in Asaba on Monday at an annual news conference of the bureau. He said property worth N13.2 billion was also lost to fire outbreaks while the Delta Fire Service saved property worth N8.3 billion during the period. He highlighted some of the notable incidents to include that of Anioma Petrol Station, Okpanam Road, Asaba and the one that occurred at the College of Education Cooperative Filling Station, Warri. “Others are the fire at Beta Glass factory in Ughelli and the one at the Sapele Main Market which occurred on Oct. 13, 2017,’’ he said. The commissioner said “the fire statistics also showed that the state fire service attended to794 fire calls, out of which 63 were false calls.” Ogwezzy siad the bureau generated N53 million as revenue through the issuance and renewal of fire safety certificates to petrol and gas stations, industries and other business premises during the period. He said the State Government recently approved an insurance cover of N10 million yearly for all personnel of the service and N49 million for the procurement of firefighting equipment and accessories. The commissioner said that N41.1 million had been approved for the renovation of the Kwale, Issele-Uku, Agbor and Ugwashi-Uku fire service stations and the contractors would soon be mobilised. Ogwezzy said that N15.3 was approved for uniform and kits for the staff while N10 6 million was also approved for the construction of water hydrant/boreholes at the event centre in Asaba. The commissioner said that this was in the event of death, temporal and permanent disabilities that might occur in the course of their duties. He also said that the bureau through its State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) inspected over 115 cases of fires, 60 cases of rainstorm and over 2,500 cases of flood disasters across the state. The commissioner also said that the bureau, through SEMA, distributed relief materials to victims of rainstorms, fire disasters and flood across the state. “The agency was able to assist a total of 94 fire disaster victims across the state with the sum of N8.1 million. “The sum of N4.2 million was given to 53 victims of rainstorm disasters in Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state,’’ he said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/fire-outbreaks-24-persons-dead-property.html

41 items will not benefit from currency swap, CBN insists • I & E window records $13bn transactions in one week Obinna Chima with agency report In a move set to project the reforms to be initiated under his government, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has said that he will privatise parts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and allow the naira currency to float to attract foreign investment, if he is elected president in the 2019 elections. The reform-minded Atiku, in an interview with Reuters, also confirmed that he intends to run in next year’s presidential election, possibly becoming the biggest opposition heavyweight to say he will take on President Muhammadu Buhari. The winner of next February’s poll will lead Africa’s top oil producer and most populous nation, which is central to regional stability as it battles Islamist militants in the North-east. Abubakar, a former key ally of Buhari, whose resources helped propel him to power, quit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in November and re-joined the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a month later. He has long enjoyed the support of the business elite in Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos for his conservative-capitalist ideals and, as vice-president in a PDP administration from 1999-2007, he implemented a programme of liberalisation in areas including the telecoms sector. As vice-president, Atiku was also the chairman of the National Council of Privatisation (NCP), which oversaw the sale of several state-run enterprises to the private sector and initiated reforms in the telecommunications, pensions, ports and power sectors between 1999 and 2007. Atiku said he would go further if elected president. “I am also going to expand it to include the oil and gas sector which has not been touched at all and other major sectors of the economy like mining, solid minerals,” he said. Atiku said he would privatise parts of NNPC, which has been beset by decades of mismanagement and is crucial to Nigeria’s economic fortunes. He did not specify the parts that would be privatised. “I am a strong believer in very, very small government and also the private sector,” he said. A drop in crude oil prices from late 2014 pushed Nigeria into its first recession in 25 years in 2016, spawning chronic dollar shortages because oil receipts make up two-thirds of government revenue and most of the country’s foreign exchange earnings. The economy moved out of recession last year but growth remains weak and multiple exchange rates remain in place, imposed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to support Buhari’s insistence that the naira should not be allowed to float. “I will allow the naira to float because I believe that is one of the ways foreign direct investment can be encouraged to come in,” said Atiku, who hopes to replicate Buhari’s 2015 feat of winning a presidential election at the fourth attempt. Buhari took office in 2015, and whoever becomes president next year will face challenges ranging from weak economic growth to communal violence between semi-nomadic herdsmen and farmers, as well as the Boko Haram insurgency. Abubakar – who, like Buhari, is a Muslim from the North – said voters would welcome someone who could revive their fortunes, adding that of his four previous presidential campaigns he was only once rejected by the electorate. He was not selected as a party candidate on three other occasions. Parties must select their candidate by October 7. The next president should be a Northerner, based on an unofficial power-sharing agreement under which the presidency alternates between the North and South after every two four-year terms. However, Bismarck Rewane, chief executive of Lagos-based consultancy Financial Derivatives, said the former vice-president’s familiarity and age could be a disadvantage. “To upset the Buhari candidature, you need something different: someone young, energetic and charismatic. You need something distinct from the current leadership,” he said. “Atiku lacks Buhari’s popularity in Northern states and at 71, just four years younger than the president, would struggle to generate inter-generational appeal,” Rewane said. The UN estimates that the median age in Nigeria is 18. No Currency Swap for 41 Items Atiku’s pronnouncement on his reform measures came just as the CBN yesterday explained that none of the items it has restricted from accessing foreign exchange (forex) from the interbank market will benefit from the $2.5 billion bilateral currency swap agreement it signed recently with the People’s Bank of China (PBoC). The clarification became necessary, said the CBN, following speculation that the bilateral agreement would unlock access to forex for the restricted 41 items. But speaking in a chat with THISDAY yesterday, CBN spokesman, Mr. Isaac Okorafor, stressed that importers of the restricted items were expected to source their forex from autonomous market sources. He insisted that the currency swap bilateral deal does not cover the 41 restricted items. The CBN had in July 2015, restricted 41 items, including vegetable oil, poultry products, toothpicks, cosmetics, plastic and rubber products, among others, from accessing foreign exchange from the interbank forex market. Okorafor also explained that the currency swap would enhance the federal government’s import-substitution policy, boost the activities of small and medium scale enterprises, and enhance job creation. “None of the items on the list will be funded under this currency swap agreement with China. And I can tell you that the currency swap will address SME forex constraints, enhance supply of raw materials, intermediate goods, and machinery “The restriction of the 41 items policy will ensure that the currency swap will not lead to dumping. It will ease third currency pressure in the country. “In addition, the currency swap will make trade with China convenient and fast, complement the SME forex window because the CBN’s funding of SMEs and creation of the SME forex window and currency swap are all part of the central bank’s strategy to grow the economy,” he added. Meanwhile, forex flows in the Investors’ and Exporters’ (I & E) window of the CBN rose significantly by 63.3 per cent in just one week, to $1.3 billion last week, said a report by Afrinvest Securities. Total trade value for the week of May 7-11 was a marked improvement over the $782 million recorded in the preceding week, reflecting increasing confidence in the country’s financial markets and the decision by the U.S. Federal Reserve last week not to raise rates. The value of foreign investor holdings of Nigeria’s local debt instruments rose significantly to $16 billion at end of March, up from the $4 billion, the International Monetary Fund’s mission chief to Nigeria, Mr. Amine Mati, disclosed last week. In addition, he said Nigeria’s equities market has seen increased interest by foreign investors. “The number of investors that keep coming to my office (to make enquiries about investing in Nigeria) keeps rising,” he added. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/05/atiku-to-partially-privatise-nnpc-allow.html

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state on Saturday said that having a credible electoral process was more important than his party, the All Progressives Congress’ victory in the same poll. The governor said this on Saturday after casting his vote in the local government elections going on in the state. He noted that credible poll was more important than the victory of the APC, even as he expressed delight over the impressive and peaceful turn-out of residents for the election. El-Rufai said that he does not care whether his party wins or loses at the local government election as long as it was credible, free and fair. El-Rufai said although there were initial hiccups with the electronic voting machine, the problems have been resolved. The governor, accompanied by some state executives, arrived at his polling unit at 12:47 p.m and went straight for accreditation and then patiently join the queue with other voters. A certain social media user has narrated the ordeal he claimed to have had from the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force. Vaughn E. Itemuagbor reveals that 2018 alone, he has had two horrifying encounters with SARS officers, one of them resulting in some bodily harm they inflicted on him. Itemuagbor, who says he works between 18 and 20 hours daily, affirms that though he studied Plant Science in school, he took up computer programming in order to make a reasonable living. Labelling himself as “one of the most sought-after computer programmers in Nigeria,” Itemuagbor says that SARS officials seem to have chosen him for “torture on a monthly basis.” He claims to have reported the issue to the Police “multiple times,” but that “nothing has ever been done.” He even took his case to the “Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit – PCRRU, Nigeria Police Force,” but he didn’t get a reprieve. “You are a young man, you drive a car and stay in Port Harcourt. You must be guilty of some crime,” he claims the SARS men told him during his last Sunday exeprience with them, sequel to which they proceeded to beat him up, allegedly unprovoked. “Admit you are a Yahoo boy and write it down here, else, I go continue (the brutality),” Itemuagbor says a SARS official told him. “Those are the words he repeated continuously as he raised his hands and landed multiple blows on my body,” Itemuagbor recalls As if that wasn’t ruthless enough, Itemuagbor says, his oppressors forced him to pay N150,000 for his freedom, while they also allegedly pressured him to implicate himself in a statement. “At the end of the day, they took 150k from me, and asked me to write that I offered them a bribe to facilitate my release. All this happened in under three hours on Sunday,” Itemuagbor says. The bitter experience has left him “very sad and depressed”. Rampaging cultists terrorizing Cable Point of Asaba and its environs in Delta State have allegedly killed three farmers in the area, and injured twenty-one others in a renewed clash on Friday night.
