Referee Stops Match To Break Ramadan Fast - August 5, 2013 by chimmy2: 8:20am On Aug 07, 2013 |
One of the odder stories in recent days comes from Senegal where a referee stopped a game to break his Ramadan fast. The game between Casa Sport and Yeggo was half-an-hour old when referee Ousseynou Gueye suspended play so his officials could have a drink and eat on the side of the pitch. Despite being heckled by spectators, Gueye finished his snack before resuming. "Legally, it is not possible to stop a match to break the fast," he said afterwards. "But you can enjoy a break in the game to meet a health need. The human body needs water." http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/227755.html Wonders shall never end... 26 Likes |

Rawpidgin: remind me of that etisalat I tell you, that advert is damn funny and innovative too.... You can't cheat nature! itz better he did that, than to stay hungry and die in silence, then later there would a news headline that would read " African refree dies due to starvation". I trust the whites to blow it out of proportion. 3 Likes |

He is actually right. FIFA allows you to have a break for health reasons (remember the water breaks in the heat of USA 94?). 2 Likes |

Why did he officiate the match when he knew he would have to break his fast in the middle of the game? Or why couldn't he wait till half time before breaking his fast? He should be made to return his pay for officiating the match because he does not deserve it! 3 Likes |

This is what I call DEVOTION, DEDICATION AND CONSECRATION! All he need now is WISDOM to separate Religion from official duties! Knowing the match will clash with the Prayer time! ADD KNOWLEDGE TO YOUR ZEAL! 6 Likes |

There is absolutely nothing wrong in what he did. He's an umpire,so is allowed. What if he's tensed to use the loo, won't he took the same break ? 3 Likes |
