While i think the OP should have presented his case with more imploring rather than threats, i'm surprised at this your comment. It's a global practice for every website in the world to have a deactivate button. It doesn't have to make the forum better but simply gives every member the right to their intellectual property. I should be able to deactivate my account when i want.

If you think by not deactivating your account, you might be tempted to log in - what makes you think that by deactivating it, you won't be tempted to open another?

But consider this case, in Gmail you are allowed to delete you account, but it is only fully successfully and completely deleted after about three months or so. that means you can access it during that period. The same thing can be done on nairaland. You can delete your account but it would only be fully and successfully deleted after a period of time. This means people who at the height of their emotions delete their accounts can always reaccess it. While people who are really serious about having their accounts deleted will have it deleted. I don't know about you but to me it's a really good system, it will separate impulse from certainty, which appears to be the main problem here.
