I just marvel at the way pple who are supposed to be matured, responsible and cultured will come to a supposedly matured site like Nairaland to throw abusive, denigrating and insulting words at one another just because someone's views and opinions about a post run at variance to theirs. For heaven's sake, one is free to hold an opinion, good or bad, as long as it does not affect another member's integrity. The best others can do is correct or enlighten in a way also that does not injure the person's psychology but the converse is the case here. Once a comment is made which is perceived to be wrong, words like idiot, mad, and other more denigrating ones are freely used. Too bad!

Yea, a policy must have positive and negative ends. But which of this two ends will be more when you weigh both.

Good, he organise mass wedding for them.now note this:

1. What will the new families created by the policy feed on.

2. How many of the couples are gainfully employed. Coz if they have work doing, they will not be roaming the street.

3. Different grown up able bodies with different behavioural content forced to live together. Hmmm very soon we will hear of fight break out between new couple and one stab the other.

4. Well, quite true but they did not disclose any result of HIV infection or are they saying the state is free from that. Just asking?.

5. The kids that will come out of the wedding will the government also provide free education for them. Coz how will you expect somebody not working to afford school fees. Just asking again?.

6. Did the government cares to how many of the new couples have a home let even forget about good shelter. Coz they said they were roaming the street. Hmmmm.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA. Amen
seems you have serious comprehension or analytical problems.did the state government force people to marry each other?its simply a case of anyone who is single and wants a wife or husband indicates by approaching the hisbah board and fills out some forms.they do the necessary medical tests and the couples are matched based on age, presence of children or financial status.the hisbah board simply acts as the matchmaker and foots the bill of the ceremony.is that so difficult to understand?of course there is a requirement for the men before they are matched with anyone.I believe the men have to show proof of stable living and ability to care for a wife.not everyone can toast a woman o.many depend on social media while the kano state government took the step to provide another medium

Smh. So it's a wrong for d govt to facilitate marriage between two consenting adults? These are not arranged marriages as some posters hav said. No compulsion involved. lt started with 100 couples but due to large numbers of people signifying interest it's grown to over 1000. lnterestingly, Christians were included this year even though organized by a sharia- enforcement body. Critics on NL fail to understand that when a man or woman is unmarried and jobless if you solve the marriage issue for him/her you have solved half of the problem. And the program is even more commendable with the small start-up capital that the kano state govt gives each couple. The program has been successfull- three years running and no serious reports of failures so far. Kudos to kano govt. Money spent this way benefits the masses more than giving it to some hypocrite to squander on self-aggrandizement like private jets and mansions.

Mass Wedding in Korea

Re: Photo From Kano Mass Wedding 2013 Edition by Namady(m): 1:11pm On Dec 22, 2013
gistmelove: A total of 1,111 mass weddings involving Muslim and Christian faithfuls was conducted yesterday at various churches and at the Central Mosque in Kano state.
This mass wedding is the fourth in the series since its inception in 2011.

Coordinated by the Kano state Hisbah board, a sharia based police system mandated to check indiscipline and social vices amongst the citizenry, the intending couples were all subjected to various forms of test at the Aminu Kano General hospital before their union was formally carried out. Speaking to newsmen, the Director General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Alhaji Abba Sufi said Christians who signified interest were joined together in their various churches and the requirements for their celebration was provided for by the state government.

The first mass wedding was conducted with a total of 100 couple, the second 250 couple and the third edition was a thousand couple. See more photos after the cut...

1. Kano state governor is one of the most performing governors, who's looking at the problem of kano as a whole, and this includes economic, social and political problems.

2. One of the reasons why theirs a high rate of almajiri (potential boko Haram) is the fact that these women who rely fully on their husbands become widows, divorcees, and can't take care of the kids pushing them to become almajiris, and some of the women becom beggars themselves.

3. The government decided to solve an economical and social problem, this women acquire skills, are given money to start up a business, education is free in kano state for the girl child and their has been a significant increase in the girl child education.

4. The men also acquire skills, the government acts as a matchmaker and matchmakes the people who want to get married (these are mostly divorces, widows who will find it hard to remarry). The government foots the wedding bill, and also give them some basic foodstuffs needed.

So tell me how is this wrong again? If the government only matchmakes them, without doing the basics the state needs I.e infrastructure and amenities then we all can agree he has a misplaced priority. But state government is doing all that.
To tackle a social problem/menace it starts from tackling family problems.
So if done well this should reduce the rate of almajiri in kano state, and reduce the no of children that are potential boko Haram members. This has been done in other countries to help the citizens.

Nigeria is a multiplex movie theater. Just pick a show and the scenes are almost the same. Unfortunately we are being charged too much (corruption and bad governance) for these kindergarten productions. A governor utilizes state money in a mass marriage project of children - look at the kids' faces, and that is supposed to be legitimate expenditure. Put that under CAPITAL PROJECT in the budget. Walahi! I don't laf shit 4 my sokoto. Ah haa, he is now a PROGRESSIVE GOVERNOR. Is this a taste of APC. Somebody please wake me up from this bad dream called Nigeria Project.
