Christmas Is Idolatrous And Unscriptural - Pastor Kumuyi by honey001(m): 9:52am On Dec 22, 2013
The General Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W.F Kumuyi, has again warned members of the church against celebrating Christmas, saying the annual celebration of Christmas is idolatrous and unscriptural.

Kumuyi warned that partaking in the celebration made Christians to go back from the commandment of Jesus Christ.

The cleric said this on Saturday at the annual national December convention of the church, which held at the church’s camp ground in Ogun State.

He said, “We don’t celebrate Christmas. It actually came from idolatrous background. That is why you don’t hear us sing what they call Christmas carol. Never! We always say it is the December retreat. We are only gathering together because it is the holiday period and love the Lord more, and rededicate ourselves more.

“When you find anybody coming in, or any leader, trying to introduce the idolatry of mystery Babylon, that they call Christmas and you want to bring all the Christmas carol saying that is the day that Jesus was born, and you don’t find that in the Acts of the Apostles or in the early church, then you don’t find that in the church either. If you don’t know that before, now you know.”

He warned that any of the church’s leaders that tried to introduce the “idolatry of Christmas” into any section of the church would be sanctioned, while also encouraging other believers in Christ to jettison the celebration as part of their sacrifice to perfection.

Kumuyi said the duty of the church was to make people more like Jesus Christ and not join in worldly celebrations.

“We are not trying to make the church turn like the world. We want it to be like Jesus Christ, and more like the Apostles. If you don’t have that mind with us, then you have permission to go to other places,” he added.

But the Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Monsignor Gabriel Osu, in his reaction to Kumuyi’s proclamation, said, “I don’t know what he means by saying the practice of celebrating Christmas is wrong.

“Is he saying that Christ wasn’t born? That he didn’t come to die for us? Does he not celebrate his own birthday? Do Kumuyi’s pastors not celebrate him? It is not everything I react to; some people just seek attention. If Kumuyi is a Christian, then he must believe in Christ.

“The celebration of Christmas didn’t just start today; it is too public an event for anyone to say that they don’t know what it is about.

“If Kumuyi is condemning the commercialisation of Christmas, I can understand that. Christ came to redeem us from our lost state; this was actualised through his coming, his birth; that is why we celebrate Christmas. It is the fulfilment of God’s promise.”

“I saw him on the television a few days ago. He was in Akwa Ibom State and was the chief preacher during their Christmas celebration event. Kumuyi is just saying what he feels; he is not making any doctrinal statement.”

The spokesperson for the Christian Association of Nigeria, Oshodi chapter, Lagos State, Pastor Barnabas Otoibhi, said that Christmas was worth celebrating.

Otoibhi told one our correspondents in a telephone interview that the origin of Christmas was not as important as its essence.

He said, “The origin of Christmas, as we know it, could be traced to Roman Emperor, Constantine. Christmas was a day for celebrating the Sun God. However, because Constantine was a Christian, the day was changed to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

“The tradition has continued to date and since the aim of Christmas is to celebrate Jesus since there is nothing bad in honouring Jesus. Also, the worship of the Sun God was done in Rome and not everywhere in the world, so it is not part of our history.

“We mark Christmas with the singing of songs as a day, which has now been consecrated.”

It's a pagan tradition,no doubt. For one,we don't know exactly when Jesus was born. We only give speculation about the day we think he was born, which may not be true. It shouldn't be about celebrating December 25th,rather it should be about celebrating Jesus.

You claim people should not celebrate xmas because it has links to roman gods, do you know that everyday of the week is dedicated and name after a roman god?

Do you know the meaning of SUNday?

Actualy the bible did not give us the specific date when Jesus was born. We are only guesing about about the date, nobody is 100 percent sure of, when Jesus was born, therefore i may choose a particular date, and name it chrismas , and i begin to celebrate on that day, each year, it is not an offence nor do i comited any sin .nowwhat matter most is the motive behind it.

sureteeboy: The pastor in a message
broadcasted live said the birth
of Christ should not only be
celebrated just once in year but
everyday.

Doesn't this sound contradictory?. If Christ is to be celebrated everyday. Is December 25 not inclusive?
I even noticed Kumuyi is on facebook. omg has anyone told him that the founder of facebook is not even a Christian.
I also thought TV is not in the bible but it looks like he was on TV too. Facebook, TV's etc are not in the bible o but him and his members are using them. So he not only allows his members use them, but he too? cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Well I guess he's just seeking attention Because since after he was caught on camera smiling from cheek to cheek at his son's wedding when the wife was dressed in everything he preaches against(more like a wedding made in hell fire), I concluded he probably agrees that nothing is wrong with some of those things he condemns. It's always the members that will carry everything he says on their head.
I wont be surprised if him and his children are caught on camera again rocking Christmas celebration(afterall his sermon suggests that Christmas should be celebrated everyday not only December 25th)

I also hope he doesn't hold church services on Sundays until he shows where sunday was mentioned in the bible and since when sunday worship became scriptural cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy
He even travels by flight while Jesus travelled with donkey.smh.

Why do catholics accuse us Traditionalists of Idolatory when they use idols themselves in church?

what do you gain from worship an israeli god instead of worshipping your Tribal God.

I've heard it several times sad?
BUT,
Whether Our Lord Jesus Christ was born on Christmas
day or not is immaterial to me undecided?.

The most important thing is that a Saviour was born to salvage mankind from
God's wrath smiley.

If Christ was not born, my life would have been miserable.

Thank you Lord for giving us Jesus Christ.

They are indirectly celebrating christmas hiding under the guise that its public holiday, hence converge coz they love the Lord more. If it's not scriptural, atleast he should show us the courtesy of telling us the bible verse that says its idolatrous.

Some historical views a lot of us hold here are uninformed. We give undue credits to pagan religion by saying pagan worshipers started this or that. Come to think of it; an event, either of religious belief or not, must have its origin started from somewhere. Paganism in the real sense of the word isn`t a religion, paganism to those of past generations was meant to be a way of life they lived. The vain among them personalised a custom which was a way of living life to them as a religion. Let Joy, Love, Peace, Compasion, Kindness and other fruits of the spirit live in our hearts, pagan religion will vanish because people will stop patronizing herbalist and joining witch-craft e.t.c Since all needs and good desires are easily met.

A man who is comfortable and contented with what he has, will never seek spiritual means to satisfy his belly or vain desires by switching to pagan religion.

kumuyi is not asking to be a somebody in the scheme of things....... He is simply stating what his research told him..... Just as God's children have disobeyed him severally, would you say he too is a bad father?
