Seun:

For success as a self-employed programmer, you should focus on webapp development and, to a lesser extent, mobile app development. You should study as many languages as you can and specialise in the languages that make you most productive. The general purpose languages I admire most are Scala, Python and C#. They're awesome. For mobile development, Java and Swift are worth learning. Don't neglect special-purpose programming languages like SQL, HTML, CSS, and Javascript: it's compulsory for every developer to know them. I use Python because it's the language that makes me most productive. Things that take 1hr to write in Java or 15m in Scala/C# may take just 5m in Python.

Thank you sir for the cool explanation!
May the Creator bless you more!!

nitlad: Are you satisfied with the revenue Nairaland generates?
I have an irrational focus on cost reduction rather than revenue maximisation. Instead of trying to make more money, I spend more time trying to find ways to save more money. As a result I find myself feeling satisfied even though we make much much less than we can and used to.

Are you exploring other avenues to maximize Nairaland's latent revenue potentials?
Ads are a good way to make money. Many multinational companies get 95% of their revenue from ads. We just need to improve our ads.

onuwaje: Would u sell nairaland for the right price? I.e if mark zukerberg comes knocking would u open?
I could only sell Nairaland for an unreasonable price i.e. if I knew that there was no way the buyer would ever come close to breaking even.

This is not true. Moderators paste topics on the FP base on their interests and trending issues and sometimes based on recommendations.
Trending section is not frontpage. Do you know more than the owner of the site? Anyway this is the link to the section.

Oga seun, I think a "date of last updated on profile pix" should be stated! Some peeps tends to leave one particular pix for ages because of the "likes" they have attracted and some other few reasons. You could look into that sir. Thanks.

We have fixed the issue that prevents those people from updating their pics... but we have not announced it yet.

dont8: 1. If you were not running Nairaland, what will you be best known for?
If lucky, I would be running some other web business, though it wouldn't be popular like Nairaland. If not, I'd be a complete failure in life.

2. Which part of Nigeria is Seun from?
I've lived in Ota, Ogun State for most of my life. It would be fair to say that's where I'm from, though that's not the answer you want!

iceberylin: SEUN : my question is How Much is Nairaland Worth
How much is your baby worth? The value of some things can't be expressed in monetary terms. Nairaland, to me, is one of those things.

Cutekemitola: Seun which football club do you support and why?
I support any club that my favourite player plays for. My favourite player is whoever is the best player in the world at the moment! Messi?

montestic: seun, how come nairaland was mentioned in the film "blackberry babes'?
The person who wrote the script must have been a fan of Nairaland. @everyone: If you know the person, please thank him/her on my behalf.

WhyNa: I was banned by anti-spam bot. Dont knw wat I did wrong. Cud you pls throw more light on this?
I've looked through your profile. The antispam bot made a mistake. It has been corrected. Pls contact a moderator next time it happens!

Knownpal: Mr Seun, if you look at facebook, we can access the website with a short url like fb.com, what's nairaland's view on this? Can there be such url e.g nl.com
These days the length of a url doesn't matter. When i type "n" in my browser, the url www.nairaland.com comes up immediately. However, you can get pretty short URLs by dropping optional parts of normal Nairaland urls. For this page: nairaland.com/1876302 works.

spanzed: Mr Seun are you married??or Engaged..
No. Do you want to link me up?

onuwaje: Is nairaland the only project you have?
Practically, yes. Once you have something that's really successful, you get far more value for your time if you focus on it.

shaboti: d'u carve your eye brow?
No, but I remember being told I have nice eyebrows as a kid. I didn't understand until Nairaland members started asking me this question.

sholay2011: Mr Seun...what is your philosophy of life? 'Would like to know.
I don't have any all-encompassing philosophy of life. I believe in things like fairness, freedom, science, & code, but that's not a philosophy!

PastorAji: 1. Seun, why is it that RULE 17 was removed?
Nairaland members didn't like it, so we made it disappear.

mikkyphp: Please why was Nairalist (www.nairalist.com) discontinued?
Nairalist needed some extensive restructuring but I needed to focus on Nairaland, so I froze it hoping to return to it later.

It was quite effective while it lasted, and i miss it so much. Is there any hope for its resurgence?
I'm not sure. If I get good ideas about how to give users more value than what the established classifieds sites can offer, then yea.

The "Trending" and "Recent" features are really awesome. I run to "Recent" when ever I'm bored with topics on the front page and that's how I come across great threads I never knew existed (including this one).
However, I think the "Trending" option has a little problem(maybe in it's algorithm? you know better) on its mode of selecting "really trending topics" because sometimes, topics with just one or two comments and very few views make it to the rank of "Trending". Also, some topics linger there way too long, even when they're not trending anymore. These are my observations, maybe you should check it out too and make some modifications. Thanks.

Ps: your intelligence and humility level is enviable!

I don't know why you people keep associating Atheists with this "Big bang theory". That theory is more of science, majority of atheists think it is trash. They would rather stick to the idea that they is no god than believe that theory.

Seun Thanks for the answers to my previous questions. Olumo rock eh, interesting grin

I've learnt that the best drive you can possibly have in life is knowing your motive for doing something. We must first answer the "why" and then figure out the "how". 'Why' is the reason we bother to get back up after falling.

Based on the above, what was your mission when you began this site?
Would you say it has fulfilled?
What were the major challenges you faced--resource, people and your own weakness(es) wise?

Aside change, growth is another constant in life, and that never stops until we die. But everyone must decide what kind of growth they want. For a man who's mission is to run 100kms in 6mths, he works towards that until it's achieved. And afterwards sets a new target for himself and works towards it. Now, if your mission when you began this site has been achieved, have you set a new goal for yourself? Mind sharing?

You earlier stated in response to some questions that you had no plans of going public with your business.
Like you already said, going public will make you mega rich, but will also come with the downside of striving to keep investors happy and take away some level of control from you. Would you say the latter is the reason (or one of it) why you dread expansion? I know that can be really scary smiley

Bonus question:

What's your dream vacation spot? Why would you choose there?

Hope say no be Jamb question o. Thanks for your anticipated response.

Geez Seun, is there a reason I keep getting logged out every millisecond? Is this some anti-hack control measure, or something to do with my device? It's annoying.

And the mention/share features, can you make it possible for us to "turn off" or make "inactive" some features we don't want popping up on our home page? Please? This stuff drives me nuts and some hormonal teens on this site keep abusing the mentions feature with senseless tags that have provides nothing worthwhile to read (offense meant if you fall in this category angry)

+100.

Is there a way we can turn off the share feature?

Is there also a way we can select the people we want to share stuff with, rather than sharing stuff with all our followers by default?

After you got Seun to ban me for 3days, you should be smiling to the bank now undecided
What did I do? Your looseness cost you your freedom, not me.

hayoakins:
Where is justice and equity in you banning a party when two parties exchanged words just because the other was on your side angry

My question
Were you ever wrong and have you ever agreed to be wrong?

PS: You may ban me again perhaps for a year since I survived 3days without nairaland as i can always get what i get on nairaland anywhere, however; i provide free consultancy service to fellow nairaland in Career section which further add value to your site and make it a one stop shop. We are the reason, Nairaland still exist brov. I am a kind of addict that can control my addiction and eliminate it on the long-run, I take charge of my MIND. If you treat everyone of us like peanut, just remember a drop makes a ocean and the continuous removal of a drop can lead to the disappearance of an ocean.

Cheers and enjoy your day.

Mr Seun, thanks for allowing me, and others air our controversial views on this forum (you know what I mean) grin . No where else have I been so free to express myself, offline or online, but you made that possible, despite the anger and pressure from lots of Nairlanders.

There are few Nigerians that regard gay people as normal as every other person, and for that you'd forever have my respect, whether you need it or not. Although I'm not surprised, as almost all atheist I've met are same way. still, you rock! cool

Out of curiosity, do you think you'd ever venture into politics?

Linda Ikeji is as popular as her blog but Nairaland is more popular than you. Don't you think your personality should be commensurate with your brainchild, Nairaland?

Secondly, isn't it wise you run some publicity through advertising to shore up Nairaland statistics and increase the traffic as it would also entice corporate sponsorship and advertisers?

Finally, I have severally come under attack from forum members defending your decisions and actions which I consider the best at such moment. The question is; are you guilty as accused since majority upheld the fact that you are intolerant, bias, high handed, brash and lacking managerial competence? What is your reaction to all of this views concerning your disposition?

*BONUS Question: Seun if you are not married and not dating, HOW DO YOU RELIEVE CONJI?*
