yes, vary carrect!

Last Bullet

Mangoes grow well in West Africa.
Meanwhile, we v our own apple. Its colour is diff from the lemon green coloured apple imported from Asia. The colour is reddish brown or reddish yellow. They are also smaller in size, like Agbalumo

Apart from apples, there are many other fruits I've seen here and I wonder why we don't have them in Nigeria.

1. Jujube
2. Persimmon
3. Berries
4. Chestnuts
5. Hawthorn popularly called mountain berries
6. Dragon fruit
7. Lychee
8. Pitaya
9. Jack fruit

Anyone seriously interested in growing then should contact me lets see if we can get them across.

Meanwhile....
Pls agriculturists should see that "Ugili" and "Sour sop" does not go extinct in Nigeria.

Respect!

crispgg: Why don't you visit the Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Ibadan? If apples can be grown here I'm sure they will know about it.

Also, I'm aware that there is an area called Gembu in Taraba or Adamawa state where some Nigerian big men have apple farms. Heard that the place is cooler than Jos and they do experience snowfall some years.
true talk gembu is colder than jos and its in taraba state, I believe if dey can try it in jos , it ll thrive in gembu cos d weather, the soil, is gud for farming. Dnt knw about some big men apple farm but I knw some of d nigerian top shots ve properties there

Is it a deliberate attempt by the foreign farmers to keep it away from Nigeria (and probably africa)?
apples are grown in South Africa. C'mon chill it's just the clime. Some of the fruits you grow here are imported in other countries. E.g oranges/lime/lemon,cashew,banana,mangoes mostly grow in hot climate. This can also be said of the palm tree..

Onions only grows on the northern part of Nigeria.

build a glass house with Ac that will allow sunlight in
then plant ur apple and watch it grow

it might be cheaper to just by the fruits or even travel out to see an apple tree if you're desperate to see one

I want to believe it's a function of weather. Agric Scientists must have been trying to cultivate it here in Nigeria but with little success; so, they wouldn't publicise their work. There could be subsistence cultivation here but commercialization is still a tall hurdle "all" apples on the shelf are imported.
If scientists could develop a variant, an hybrid, that would thrive on our soil, better for us.
