My back porch overlooks my neighbor's backyard. He has 5 Apple trees in it.

Over this summer, and every summer before, the trees grew a few thousand Apples.

HALF WERE EATEN BY BIRDS, AND THE OTHER HALF FELL TO THE FLOOR TO ROT. cheesy

himkers: check the cartons/packs of all the apples you buy in stores, and roadsides and you will see they are all imported from abroad. I was told apples cant be grown in Nigeria; reason being that the Oyinbos injected a kind of chemical into the fruit that will make it impossible for it to grow anywhere other than their home countries.

I dont know who else have also be told the same sory. Is the theory true or another false rumour that most Nigerians (like me wink ) believes??

**I wish to start growing apples**

Yes it's true, I saw them inject every single Apple tree in the world!

After witnessing this dastardly act, I made my grand father who is a native doctor inject every single yam, pawpaw and mango tree in Africa with jazz so they can't be grown abroad. So smile and enjoy your next meal of pounded yam and egusi, we are fighting back against the Oyinbos!

Revenge is sweet but ignorance is a curse!

Hian. Dis kind ur theory op. Apples can grow in Nigeria but in specific places where the weather is friendly to it. A place like jos produces apple bt nt in commercial quantity.

apples and other exotic fruits grow in Nigeria

while serving in Taraba. apples and grapes grew in Gembu plateau.. the problem in Nigeria is access roads.
it would take at 11 hours to get to Gembu from Jalingo, capital of Taraba.

it would also take 23 hours by road to get to jalingo from Lagos ( though after resting overnight at Gboko, Benue)

here a pic of gembu..
I enjoyed my stay in Taraba.. what a blessed land

Does it mean there's a difference between those foreign apples and the ones that are home grown (the red ones)? Why can the red ones grow in Nigeria but not the green ones?

Appreciate what God has given you and enjoy it. Learn your Regional Geography in school.
You have your own. Oyibo's have their own.

The reason apples will not grow in Nigeria is the same reason Pawpaw will not grow in Canada or Europe. Each plant for its own region.

GowonAbacha: It all boils down to the weather. Apples can't strive in temperate regions. They are mainly grown in europe and america.
and what are temperate regions?
