The police on Wednesday arraigned two men, Lukman Oropo, 30, and Musliu Sikiru, 40 in an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State over goat theft valued at N50,000.

The defendants, who reside at Offin-Ile Community, Ikorodu, Lagos State, are facing two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Bosede Adegeshin, told the court that the duo committed the offences at Tiamiyu Shittu Street, Offin Area, Ikorodu, on April 20.

He said that the goats that belonged to Tiamiyu Shittu, the complainant, were recovered from the defendant’s house.

He added that “ Tiamiyu Shittu rears goat in his compound, but some weeks ago, he couldn’t find the goats and told the neighbours who helped him search the community and the goats were later found at the defendants home.”

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws, Lagos State, 2011.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi,
granted them bail in the sum of N30,000 each with a surety each in like sum.

Ogunkanmi adjourned the case until May 26 for further hearing. (NAN)

Part of the discourse is the progression of Cee-C.

Speaking at a press briefing held in honour of the BBNaija 2018 finalists, he said; “Those questions about her (Cee-c) disqualification would always come. I think when the show started; there was a perception that some housemates were placed into the house by the sponsors to win the show. Then it switched by the next week

“At every point, the housemates were aware of the rules of being in the house, and those were adhered to throughout.

“At the end of the day guys, it’s a game, and the rules were adhered to. Throughout the time the housemates were in the house, there was fairness.

“At a time we heard about the votes, and then, week after week, we published those percentages and people saw the reality behind the numbers.

“Often times when people complain and we ask them: “Did you vote?” They tell you – “I actually forgot to vote.”

Earlier today, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, inaugurated the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Establishment and Development of the National Assembly Museum and Archives.

In the words of the senate president:

"We often lament about a lack of foresight, and a failure to build on the gains of the past. The proposed Museum and Archives of the National Assembly, however, demonstrates that we can indeed build on the gains of the past if we are determined.

We all know that information availability is critical to the functioning of democratic legislatures. Access to information is crucial to the strengthening of parliamentary oversight, to improving the work of representatives as well as our accountability to those that elected us.

There is also the need for greater intellectual depth in our public life. A Museum and Archives would give a leap to intellectualism in our legislative activities.

It also promises to be an invaluable repository of knowledge that would be of untold benefit to scholars, historians, students and citizens in general. Above all, it would aid our knowledge of legislative history.

On that note, the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Establishment and Development of the National Assembly Museum and Archives is hereby inaugurated, to the glory of God and the greater development of Nigeria.

A truck laden container lost control and fell around Oshodi and it almost crushed RRS response riders stationed in that area. Luckily the officers jumped to safety and averted the tragedy. The truck will be evacuated shortly to ease traffic.

Forensic examinations of evidence from the Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos home of Peter Nielsen, 53, alleged to have killed his wife and daughter indicated traces of blood stains cleverly wiped, the police said yesterday.

Although initial reports suggested that the woman, Zaynab, was strangled and her three-year-old daughter, Patra suffocated, autopsy report conducted showed that Zaynab suffered trauma because of impact on her head.


Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal yesterday suggested that there were attempts by the suspect to cover up his crime, which forensic experts traced with the use of special chemical reagents.

Edgal said: “The autopsy revealed that Mrs Zaynab Nielsen suffered trauma as a result of the impact on her head. Secondly, forensic experts revealed that there were blood stains from the couple’s bedroom to the kitchen.

“Though it was cleverly wiped from the floor, the experts were still able to detect it with the application of special chemical reagents. In addition, blood stains were also discovered on the wash hand basins and on the hand towel the suspect used in wiping his hands after the commission of the offence. Although it was cleverly cleaned up as well, the experts were able to discover that too.”

Edgal said the Danish Embassy was co-operating with the police, adding that the embassy provided legal representation for the suspect.

He said: “I spoke personally with the ambassador apart from the official correspondence. They also arranged for counsel for their citizen so they are following the process very closely. We did not parade the suspect for obvious reasons. Do not forget he’s not a Nigerian and so, there are diplomatic connotations.

“This is a man being accused of first degree murder. So, it would have been wrong for the police who are going to prosecute him, to also begin to parade him before such prosecution. However, he was charged to an open court. We are concerned with ensuring that he is diligently prosecuted and justice is done.”

The Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre (PPRAC) has formally recognised the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike with the Zik Prize for Good Governance.

The PPRAC, organisers of the Zik Leadership Prize in Leadership said that Governor Wike was honoured because of his accomplishments in projects delivery, prudent management of scarce resources, human capital development and policy implementation.

Presenting the Zik Prize for Good Governance to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Sunday at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, Former Minister of Education and Chairman of Advisory Board of PPRAC, Prof Jubril Aminu praised the governor for turning the state into a huge construction site.


He commended the Rivers State Governor for his commitment to the development of the state, urging him to sustain the pace.

Speaking after receiving the Zik Prize for Good Governance, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said the award is a call to him to continue to serve the state and Nigeria to the best of his ability

He said: "This is very great because this award was instituted annually to honour the first ceremonial President of Nigeria, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe.

" It is an award that will spur us further to continue to work for the people. It is not an award for us to relax".

Governor Wike dedicated the award to the good people of Rivers State, saying that their support for his administration made it possible for him to develop the state.

The governor also thanked his wife and children for the sacrifices they make to enable him serve Rivers people.

He said that the state has entrenched good governance through the delivery of projects and programmes that improve the living condition of the people, enthroned transparency and accountability as well as worked within the ambit of the law.

"This award is to remind us that we are required to do more for the people. Zik stood for unity that is why we should work to unite the country ", he said.

This year, the Rivers State Governor has won: Silverbird Man of the Year 2017, Sun Newspaper Governor of the Year 2017 and the and the Independent Newspaper Political Icon of the Year, 2017.

Other award recipients are: Former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande and the Zik Prize in Political Leadership, Chief Audu Ogbeh the Zik Prize winner in Public Service ,
